English Toy Terrier (Black & Tan)
I was a substitute judge for Albert Wight and sorry he was unable to fulfil his appointment. My 9th time awarding CCs in the breed. There were some difficult classes to assess, as there was considerable variation in type and size, movement was mixed, quite a few tails were carried on the high disrupting the flowing outline and some dogs (not just puppies) didn’t have the terrier attitude and confidence that the standard and their working background as ratters calls for. I don’t think I’ve seen the breed so diverse as it is now. That said I was very happy with my main winners, great examples of the breed, confident, sound and fit for purpose.
SBD (1)
1. Shevchenko’s Ettology Making Mischief. Mature male, pleasing for size with a shapely outline. A good wedge shaped head, small dark eyes and good bite. Decent front assembly with straight front legs, nice depth of chest and spring of rib, and nicely angulated rear. Well defined colours complete with thumbprints. On the move, I would like to have seen more extension in front and he was a little untidy going away. On balance I felt he had more maturity than the SBB to secure himself the Best Special Beginners award.
VD (4)
1. Francis & Blatchford’s Ch Witchstone Not Apache On Me For Peopleton VW. An eye catching lad, yes at the bigger end of the scale but he’s so well balanced with a classic shape to his profile. It’s on the move that he excels displaying the true low and fluid extended trot, one of the few in the entry today. Masculine and nicely balanced wedge shaped head, ears held high, his small almond shaped dark eyes still have a keen expression. Ample neck with slight arch, compact in body, deep chest and well ribbed, pleasing rear angulation and low set tail. Shown in fit condition with a lovely glossy coat. BVD and BVIB and delighted to see that he took Toy Veteran Group 2.
2. Harman’s Ch Witchstone Crazy Horse At Boimans. Close-up, sound going away and back, couldn’t quite match the extension of the winner in the front. Attractive wedge shaped head, well set on ears, with dark almond eyes giving a keen expression. Straight front, deep chest good spring of rib with gentle curve from behind his shoulder. and well angulated rear. He was sporting a lovely glossy coat with rich tans and shown in fit condition. A worthy champion.
3. Seaton’s Int Ch Lux Ch Witchstone Vanguard En Gardebois JW
PD (5)
1. Imrie & Leonard’s White Knight At Witchstone. This nicely constructed lad had the edge in this class as he was the most confident and was sporting the best coat and body condition. Lots to admire from his curvy outline, attractive wedge shaped head, well set on ears, with dark almond eyes giving him a keen expression. Straight front, deep chest good spring of rib and well angulated rear. He scored well on his co-ordinated movement with good drive from behind and extension in front. Dense glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are heavier marked.
2. Francis & Blatchford’s Witchstone High Spirits Of Peopleton. Nice overall type, a little larger in frame than the winner, with a handsome long wedge shaped head, wicked dark almond eyes and high set ears all giving him proper terrier keenness. Good front, ample neck, his top line rises gently from behind the shoulder with pleasing rear angulation and low set tail. He was a bit fidgety on the stack, but once he moved, he soon settled and scored well on his co-ordinated movement with good drive from behind and extension in front.
3. Harcarik& Harcarik’s Gillings Morning Star
JD (3)
1. Dixon & Dixon’s Am Ch Cottage Lakes Lasagesse American Pie (Imp USA). I like the size and shapely outline of this lad and he out moved his competitors in this class, sound out and back with some extension in front. Nice headpiece with just enough width to his back skull to give a wedge shape appearance, a touch more breath would give a more defined wedge. He has the darkest of well shaped eyes giving him a keen expression. Good front, elegant neck with slight arch, and well bent stifles. Shown in fit condition with a lovely glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are more heavily marked.
2. Pendlebury’s Ettology Stand And Deliver Of Pendlethrine. Taller nicely balanced boy with a curvy outline. Pleasing wedge shaped head with ears of good size and shape with dark almond shaped eyes. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well- developed hindquarters. Shown in good condition with glossy jacket, rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. Moved quite well, but his front movement needs to settle which pegged him back today.
3. Dean-Armitt’s Etruria I Say.
PGD (3)
1. Shevchenko’s Ettology Making Mischief. See SBD notes, he won the class as I preferred his size, showing a good side gait but was a bit wide behind going away.
2. Pendlebury’s Ettology Stand And Deliver Of Pendlethrine. See JD notes. Taller lad but today he was moving very close coming towards me but had more body and substance than the third.
3. Crowley’s Adargwn Verona.
LD (5)
1. Francis & Blatchford’s Witchstone Nasabe Strike Up The Band. Taller nicely balanced boy with a curvy outline. Carried himself well on the move which gave him the edge in this class, sound out and back and his side gait clearly shows he has a true extended trot with good drive from behind. Strong masculine wedge shaped head, a touch broad in the back skull for me. Small almond shaped dark eyes giving a keen alert expression. Good front with a deep and narrow chest, ample neck into well laid shoulders and nicely angulated rear. Dense glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are heavier marked.
2. Warren & Warren’s Rhymswell Fields Of Gold. A little smaller in frame than the winner and I actually preferred his head shape, masculine and nicely balanced wedge shaped, ears held high and small almond shaped dark eyes with a keen alert expression. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in fit condition with a lovely glossy coat with paler tans and faint thumbprints. Carried himself well on the move, not quite the extension in front of the winner, but sound all directions. A call between these two.
3. Pendlebury’s Ettology Small Gods Of Pendlethrine.
OD (6)
1. Leonard’s Ch Witchstone Nasabe Strikes Back. A quality dog who stood out for me both in his class and the dog challenge. His breed typical outline really appealed to me and reminded me of some of the well known kennels of the past, and without doubt he is fit for function. Masculine and balanced wedge shaped head, his well shaped ears held high and small almond shaped dark eyes give him a keen alert expression. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in fit condition with a lovely glossy coat with rich tans, his legs are more heavily marked. He scored well on his co-ordinated and very sound movement and looked good in profile showing a low and fluid extended trot with his tail held correctly. Very happy to award him the DCC and BOB
2. Dixon & Dixon’s Ch Lasagesse Dazed N'confused JW. This lad has a pleasing and typical profile and is good for size. I liked his confident demeanour and he’s clearly fit for purpose. His head appeals very much, balanced wedge shape, neat well set on ears, and dark almond eyes giving a keen expression. Good front, slight arch to his neck, compact in body with gentle curve from behind his shoulders to well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in lovely coat and condition with rich tans and clear markings with defined thumbprints. He carried himself well on the move, co-ordinated and looked good in profile showing quite good extension in front. He was carrying his tail a little higher than ideal, but on balance I forgave him this as he scored highly in other areas. Pleased to award him the RDCC.
3. Oakden & Conway’s Spawood Hey Mickey.
GCD (1)
1. Shevchenko’s Ettology Making Mischief. See SBD notes
SBB (4,1abs)
1. Aulton’s Witchstone Thats The Spirit For Winnatts. Although not the oldest in this class, and she still has some devleoping to to do, this young lady really appealed to me, I liked the size and shape of this girl, when stacked her body is a lovely curvy shape topped off with a glossy coat, and rich tans. Feminine wedge shaped head, well-shaped ears set on correctly with dark expressive eyes. Good front assembly, ample neck and well laid shoulders and good rear angulation. Moved soundly on the go around, would like a little more front extension but still plenty of time to develop further.
2. Marsden’s Regalriver Big Bad She Wolf. Older more mature girl with a pretty wedge shaped head, with well set on ears and small very dark eyes which I would have liked a touch more fill beneath. Ample neck, straight front with good depth of chest good and nicely angulated fore and aft. Sound on the go around, didn’t seem to have the confidence of the winner and just felt she could have made a bit more of herself on the move today, couldn’t quite match the reach in front or drive from behind.
3. Windsor’s Kinzie Simply The Best
VB (3) A great class, all were shown in great condition.
1. Inch & Inch’s Edalene Never Let Me Go VW. 10 yr girl who had the edge today on her movement. A pretty girl, I liked her size and she still carries a shapely outline. Pleasing feminine wedge shaped head, with well set on correctly shaped ears and small dark eyes. Good front assembly with straight front legs, deep chest and good length of rib. Body in super condition with a gentle curve to her top line, good turn of stifle and overall muscle tone, all topped off with a glossy coat. Carried herself well on the move, sound out and back with good drive from behind and some reach in front
2. Haffenden, & Wood’s Ch Witchstone Minnehaha VW. Another quality girl, spot on for size and she also still carries a lovely curvy outline. Elegant all through and put down in super condition. Feminine wedge shaped head, well shaped ears set on correctly with dark almond eyes. Straight front legs, compact in body with curves in all the right places, well angulated hind quarters and low set tail. Shown in super condition. Sound on the go around, just felt she wasn’t making the most of herself on the move and didn’t quite have the spark of the winner today.
3. Benson’s Ch Nasabe Lily Marlene JW
PB (5)
1. Williams’ Sharex Dragons Black Opium. This quality girl won her class on her confident and more coordinated movement. An eye catcher, her size, type and shapely outline appealed to me very much. Elegant in appearance and put down in super condition, thick glossy coat, well defined rich tans and faint thumbprints. Pretty wedge shaped head, well shaped ears with the darkest of small almond eyes giving her a keen expression. Nice straight front, well laid shoulders and a well angulated rear. Well schooled and carried herself very well on the move, sound all ways with good drive and she has some extension in front. BPB and BPIB, just having the edge on the lovely dog puppy on her more confident performance on the move.
2. Pendlebury’s Lasagesse A Kind Of Magic Of Pendlethrine. Another lovely girl showing plenty of promise, slightly smaller frame than the winner but all in proportion, nicely balanced with a pleasing curvy outline. Lovely wedge shaped head, well-shaped ears set on correctly with the darkest of expressive eyes. Good front assembly, ample neck and well laid shoulders and good rear angulation. Shown in lovely condition with thick glossy coat, well defined rich tans with thumbprints. Confident on the move, not quite the extension in front of the winner and a little untidy behind at the moment.
3. Phillips’ Ettology Worth The Wait.
JB (3)
1. Phillips’ Ettology Worth The Wait. This young lady was third in her puppy class, but she seemed more settled and moved much better this time. I liked the size and shape of this girl, when stacked her body is a lovely curvy shape topped off with a thick glossy coat, rich tans and defined thumbprints. Good front, elegant neck with slight arch, and well bent stifles. Sound going away and back, would like a slightly lower tail carriage on the move. Best Junior
2. Marsden’s Regalriver Big Bad She Wolf. See SBB notes
3. Crowley’s Adargwn Milano Cortina.
PGB (2)
1. Windsor’s Kinzie Simply The Best. To very different girls tin this class, this one was more mature in body with quite a shapely outline. Pretty wedge shaped head, would like a slightly more almond shape to her very dark eyes, well set on ears of good shape. Ample neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest and nicely angulated rear. On the move, just felt she could have made a bit more of herself and she was slightly wide behind going away. Her handler needs to show her off to better advantage and watch placement of her feet as she can stand a little untidy in front on the stack,
2. Crowley’s Adargwn Paris. Pretty girl at the smaller end of the breed standard, but she’s still a puppy so naturally she has lots more developing to. That said she has quite a shapely outline on the stack, very feminine head with the darkest eyes. Good front assembly, ample neck and well laid shoulders and good rear angulation. Shown in lovely condition with well defined rich tans. I saw glimpses of good movement, just needs a bit more experience and practice so she can get into her stride.
LB (5,2abs)
1. Hall & Oakden’s Spawood Proud Mary With Ghilgrange JW. Felt on balance this girl just had the edge in terms of her shapely outline and movement. Carried herself well on the move, a touch wide going away and would like a little lower tail carriage. Pretty wedge shaped head, well shaped ears set on correctly with dark almond eyes giving an alert keen expression. Straight front legs, compact in body with curves in all the right places, well angulated hind quarters and low set tail. Shown in super condition with rich tans.
2. Inch & Inch’s Edalene Scoops Ahoy. Pretty girl, good for size and has a shapely outline in profile. She didn't seem to have her mind on the job today. Her head whilst wedge shaped, it is a touch strong for me, lovely dark almond eyes and well set on ears. Ample neck, straight front with good depth of chest good and nicely angulated fore and aft. Shown in good body condition, with paler tans. Moved out soundly on the go around with good drive from behind and some reach in front, would like a little lower tail carriage.
3. Windsor’s Kinzie Simply The Best
OB (12,3abs). A competitive class full of quality.
1. Wood & Leonard’s Lady In Black At Witchstone. This girl caught my attention as soon as she came into the ring and in the challenge I kept being drawn back to her. She has so many attributes to admire from her size, shape and overall elegance, whilst still displaying the terrier keenness. She certainly gives the impression of being fit for purpose. Feminine wedge shaped head, to be picky I would have liked a touch more width to her back skull, darkest almond eyes with a keen alert expression, and candle flame ears. Elegant neck, compact in body, good ribs and well-muscled hindquarters all topped off with a thick glossy coat, rich well defined tans with thumbprints. Had the edge on the move, with her co-ordinated and fluid movement with an easy extended trot. Delighted to award her the BCC, just slightly preferred the head of the DCC for the BOB.
2. Dixon & Dixon’s Ch Lasagesse Black Magic Woman JW. Another attractive and attentive showgirl, spot on for size with a lovely curvy outline. Elegant all through and put down in super condition. Feminine wedge shaped head, neat well set on candle flame ears set, with very dark almond eyes giving an alert keen expression. She has a straight front, deep chest and good length of rib. Body in super condition with a gentle curve to her top line, good turn of stifle and overall muscle tone, all topped off with a glossy coat and rich well defined tans. Once she settled and concentrated she moved out well and her side gait showed she has good reach and drive. Would like a slightly lower tail carriage on the move. Called her in for another look for RBCC and felt her other qualities outweighed this, so delighted to award her the RBCC.
3. Love’s Lasagesse Whole Lotta Love With Tettoy JW
