Premier Open Show

Sunday 3rd October 2026.

Judge Miss A S K Henshaw (Peteshe)

My thanks to the society for an enjoyable day. I certainty can see just how the economic situation in this country is contributing to the decline in open show entries. My thanks to all those who entered today.

Retriever, Flat Coated.

Puppy Dog

1st Holman, Mrs D E & Mr R M. O’Flanagan New Horizons of Namtresa NAF (Imp Swe)

A well-balanced, happy six½-month-old puppy who presents a pleasing outline, complemented by a constantly wagging tail. He has a handsome, correctly wedge-shaped head and expressive eyes. Good forequarter angulation, with a clean neck flowing into well-laid-back shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Deep brisket, well-sprung ribs, and moderate hind angulation. Presented in excellent coat. Lots to like, and I look forward to seeing him mature. Best Puppy in Breed.

Puppy Bitch

1st Holden, Miss H. Dymexe I love to Boogie.

A feminine, well-proportioned 9-month-old of pleasing size, with adequate bone and a lovely, intelligent expression. Her well-moulded head is complemented by a pleasing eye and correct scissor bite. Clean neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a level topline and correctly set tail. Moderately angulated fore and aft, with quarters still developing. Moved adequately for her age. She should strengthen and mature into a very pleasing bitch.

Junior

1st Holman, Mrs D E & Mr R M. O’Flanagan New Horizons of Namtresa NAF (Imp Swe)

See previous winner.

2nd Salt, Mr D E J & Mrs M A. Culcrieff’s Ferntower Glen of Wetnoses JW

A handsome, well-balanced 16-month-old male of correct proportions, with good bone, substance, and a racy outline. Well-moulded masculine head, dark eye, correctly set ears and a kind, mischievous expression. Deep chest, well-sprung ribs, and strong, moderately angulated hindquarters. He held a level topline and carried his short, well-set, wagging tail correctly. Presented in good coat and condition, moving soundly once settled. I would prefer tighter feet, but he is maturing well and shows much potential.

Graduate

1st Markillie, Mrs D R. Hope Valley Morning Minuet JW

A well-shaped bitch with a beautifully moulded head, strong jaw, kind yet cheeky eye, and good bone. Correctly angulated fore and aft, she flows cleanly from neck into shoulder, with balanced proportions, firm coupling and developing quarters. She covered the ground well, although her front action needs to settle; with maturity, she should do well. Best of Breed.

2nd Prior, Mrs A & Dr, I. Gemswin Wherever I lay my hat at Finnashember.

A feminine, well-sized bitch with a nicely moulded head and good substance throughout. Her head is well set on a strong, clean neck of good length. Pleasing forequarters, with the legs set well under the body, good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. She held a firm topline but was longer in loin than the winner. Well-bent stifles and low-set hocks contributed to free-flowing movement.

3rd Holden, Miss H. Fairwinds Flowertot

Limit

1st Prior, Mrs A & Dr, I. Blacktoft Avelino at Finnashember.

An honest, standard-sized bitch shown in fit, hard condition, with correct bone and tight, well-shaped feet. Pleasing head, bright eye and firm underjaw. Good depth of chest and short coupling leading to a strong, well-muscled rear. Moved tidily and with excellent soundness.

Open Dog

1st Buckley, Mrs H. Blacktoft Brindisi by Buckleyhill

A quality male with excellent bone and substance, presenting a clean, balanced outline when stacked. Beautifully moulded head with good width of skull and a bright, intelligent expression. Correct forehand, good depth of chest and tight-fitting elbows. Well-developed hindquarters with broad thighs, enabling sound, purposeful movement.

Open Bitch

1st Salt, Mr D E & Mrs M A. Levelmoor Acorn Antiques Via Wetnoses

A cheerful 7-year-old who belied her age, presenting a balanced outline. Well-constructed throughout, with a feminine head, dark eye, correctly set ears, clean neck, and level topline. Excellent forequarter angulation, deep chest, well-sprung ribs, muscular hindquarters, and correct tail set. Moved soundly, covering the ground with ease.

Spaniel, (Welsh Springer)

Junior

1st Critchley, Mr F. Luneville Water Marked

A promising 14-month-old with a pleasing head, well-set ears, and clean neck. Straight forelegs, good feet, and depth of body, with well-bent stifles and a correctly set tail. Well, presented in good coat and moved steadily at the correct pace. He now needs time to mature.

Limit

1st Bennion, Mrs A. Menstonia Endless Dreams JW

Presented a balanced, symmetrical outline, with a pleasing, correctly proportioned head, kind eye, slight dome, defined chiselling, low-set ears, and correct bite. His clean, muscular neck flowed into well-laid shoulders and a sound forehand, with good bone, deep brisket, and well-sprung ribs. Strong topline, slightly arched loin, and muscular hindquarters balanced his front construction. Correctly set, well-feathered tail, carried well. Presented in lovely coat and firm condition, he covered the ground easily with good reach and drive, displaying a flowing side gait.

2nd Bascombe, Mrs A. Slapestones Orapa

A balanced, compact male with a larger-than-life character who made me smile. Textbook head with a gentle, typical expression and dark eyes showing the characteristic cheeky Welsh Springer glint. Well boned, with straight forelegs, excellent feet, a strong topline, good depth of chest and moderately angulated hindquarters. Moved well.

3rd Cochrane, Ms S A. Eiriandylis Confusion
