Birmingham & District Gundog & Terrier Club

Borders Terriers, Fox Terrier (Smooth), Junior Handling Association & Adult Handling Classes I would like to thank the society for inviting me to judge. I thoroughly enjoyed my judging and I am grateful to the exhibitors for their entry and sportsmanship. Border Terrier (21 dogs entered & 15 dogs present) MP (2,0) 1 Jordan-Smith’s Jordith Bee In My Bonnet, quite a raw young bitch pup with points to develop but with quality visible. She presents a good outline, with good bone for such a youngster. Lovely overall size and is well balanced with supple muscle. Her head is feminine and needs time to mature. She has a good length of neck, with an okay layback of shoulder. Held her topline well both stood and moving. She used her hindquarters well on the move. Presented in good condition with a loose pelt. Spanned easily. BPIB. 2 Speake’s Melted Blue Rascal at Cedarhill, taller young dog. Well boned and presented in a nice harsh coat. Good head proportions with a nice dark eye. Good length of neck flowing into a well constructed front. Well ribbed back. Had a tendency to lose his topline on the move, however this could improve with maturity. Quite narrow fore and aft but moved with decent reach and drive in profile. P (2,1) 1 Nightingale’s Knowsbury’s Fortune Of Gold, this 11 month old bitch gave her handler a difficult time today as she was not cooperating on the move, which unfortunately made a proper assessment difficult. Some excess hair left on her head but she had okay head proportions, I would like a slightly less round eye. A harsh coat was visible, she spanned easily and had a good loose pelt. Well laid back shoulder and enough return of upperarm. Ok in hind angulation. J (5,0) 1 Goddard’s Gracezheim Inspired by Awbrooksky, 17 month old bitch with lots to like. Presented in lovely harsh coat with supple muscle all over. I liked her for her size and type. Best head of the class, an otter shape with a dark eye, and well set and sized ears. Beautiful length of neck flowing into a well set shoulder. Well ribbed back however I would prefer her slightly shorter in loin. Lovely racy hindquarters with a well bent stifle and well let down hocks. Ok feet. Moves with correct reach and drive just a tad close in front. RBOB. 2 Cecho’s Chainsmoker Fiery Lucifer at Modrelabky (IMP CZE), liked this boy's masculinity and temperament. Best coat of the day, lovely harsh waterproof jacket. Good head proportions, though maybe slightly long from stop to occiput. Lovely dark eye, would prefer slightly smaller ears. Good length of neck, ok shoulder. Well boned and muscled. Good topline and underline with well sprung ribs. Carried himself soundly round the ring. A deeper chest therefore not as easily spanned. 3 Pickerin’s Riseburn Rumour on Hobhill. Y (5,1) Goddard’s Gracezheim Bounce Back to Awbrooksky, elegant well sized 17 month old dog with lots to like. Nice head proportions though a slightly rounded eye. Lovely length of neck, well laid back shoulder and okay return of upper arm. Nice bone and lovely tight knit feet. Well sprung ribs, holds a steady topline at all times. Well set tail. Good bend of stifle and well let down hocks. A touch more hind angulation than front. Presents a lovely picture on the move, with ample reach and drive. Easily spanned and a nice loose pelt. I would love to see him in full coat. BOB. 2 Cecho’s Chainsmoker Fiery Lucifer at Modrelabky (IMP CZE), as seen in junior. 3 Pickerin’s Riseburn Rumour on Hobhill. PG 1 (3,1) Goddard’s Gracezheim Inspired by Awbrooksky, as seen in junior. 2 Wright’s Ravenside Sing Me A Song for Borderxpress JW, lovely size, well presented with a nice harsh coat. Okay head just slightly short in muzzle. Nice length of neck, ok layback of shoulder and length of upperarm. Lovely bone. Well sprung ribs. Easily spanned with a nice loose pelt. Has a tendency to lose her topline on the move but moves okay otherwise. L (6,2) 1 Goddard’s Gracezheim Bounce Back to Awbrooksky, as seen in yearling. 2 Jordan-Smith’s Jordith Roll Up And Shine JW, lovely masculine head presenting the correct otter shape. Nice dark eye and well set, correctly sized ears. Good length of neck and okay layback of shoulder, slightly heavy in his front and chest. Lovely topline and well sprung ribs. Well made hind angulation. Presents a nice outline, lovely harsh waterproof coat on top of a nice loose pelt. Moved well in profile. 3 Phillips’ Brankell Angeleyes at Nantcoch. OD (3,1) 1 Goddard’s Gracezheim Bounce Back to Awbrooksky, as seen in yearling. 2 Gwilliam’s Fisherbloom Dont Stop Me Now at Louajak, masculine up to size boy. Okay head proportions, lovely v-shaped, small ears. A tad narrow in jaw. Good length of neck. Nice bone and tight feet. Lovely harsh weatherproof jacket. Moved quite wide fore and aft. OB (1) 1 Wright’s Borderxpress Echo Beach VW, well sized, moderate 6 year old bitch who is very balanced. Okay head proportions, dark eye. Moderate length of neck, nice neat front. Okay layback of shoulder. Good topline and underline. Nice harsh jacket over a good loose pelt. Spanned easily due to her nice size and proportions. Straight moving in front. Fox Terrier (Smooth) (5 dogs entered & 4 dogs present) J (2) 1 Brookes’ Zetamaz Ella Viday, lively and enthusiastic 15 month old bitch who was very up on her toes. Nice flat skull, narrowing gradually to eyes. Dark, round eye. Well sized v-shaped ears. Clean neck of good length flowing into a fairly well set shoulder. Well sprung ribs with a nice deep chest. Short back, slight rise at the loin. Carried herself well around the ring with good drive from the rear. Nice small tight feet. Presented in good condition with a flat smooth coat. BOB. 2 Nichols’ Chantalle’s Diva The Beaver, more moderate bitch at 11 months old. Good flat skull, slightly longer in muzzle than 1. Nice dark, round eye. Well set ears. Clean neck, widening into shoulders. Quite upright in shoulder. Lovely bone for such a young bitch without being coarse. Well muscled. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Well let down hocks. Little low in tail set. Difficult to assess movement today as she wasn’t the most cooperative. Flat, dense coat. BPIB. L (2,1) Brookes’ Zetamaz Devil Made Me Do It, up to size dog, litter brother of BOB. Another with an active and lively disposition, carrying himself round the ring with confidence. Lovely head proportions - flat skull, foreface chiselled out, dark round eye and well set v-shaped ears. Good length of neck flowing well into shoulders. A little upright in shoulder. Okay for upperarm. Short backed. High set tail but carried a little too close over the back. Quite straight in stifle. Moved soundly. O D/B (1) Brookes’ Zetamaz Candy Man JW, up to size dog, lively active temperament. Lovely bone, nice tight compact feet. Good head proportions, flat skull. Nice dark round eye and black nose. Lovely small ears. Moderate length of neck gradually widening into a well laid back shoulder. Deep chest with well sprung ribs. Short back with a slight rise at the loin. Okay in hind angulation. Well set tail. Flat, dense coat. Moved well just a tad wide in front. RBOB to his littermate. Junior Handling Association 6-11yrs (3,2) 1 Emily Worgan, this young lady showed lovely rapport with her Bracco Italiano. She always had her stood well, and constantly moved her at the correct pace. Emily was aware of my position in the ring at all times, and showed enthusiasm when showing her dog. Emily also completed the patterns correctly and showed me her dog’s teeth properly. Best Junior Handler. Adult Handling 17-30yrs (4,1) 1 Phoebe Toublic. A lovely, sympathetic handler to watch who had her dog stood so neatly at all times. She moved her Springer at the correct pace, whilst being aware of my position in the ring. She completed her patterns with the straightest of lines and remained the correct distance away from me whilst standing her dog. The rapport she held with her charge was apparent and I had no hesitation in awarding her the class and Best Adult Handler. 2 Emily Rice. Emily had a hard time today as her dog wasn’t cooperating too well. Despite this I was still able to see a quality performance, as she showed kindness and sympathy towards her charge and remained calm at all times. Whilst dealing with an uncooperative dog, she still was aware of my position in the ring and did not get in-between me and the dog. She had her dog stood correctly, moved her at the correct pace and showed me her teeth perfectly. The only thing that separated Emily from 1st was needing to have slightly straight lines when performing her patterns. 3 Lauren Gimbert 31-59yrs (10,5) 1 Maxine Proudler. A subtle, relaxed handler who showed her Cocker Spaniel in a breed appropriate way with a strong performance. Maxine constantly moved her dog at the correct pace, completing her patterns with straight lines. Her dog was always set up correctly, she showed me the teeth well and when needing to swap her lead to the other hand to complete a pattern she did so with subtlety. 2 Nikki Rice, a pleasure to watch handle this dog as she did so with enthusiasm, it is always lovely to see someone enjoy a class with their dog. Nikki was always very aware of where I was in the ring and made sure to not get in between me and her dog. She moved her charge at the correct pace and had her set up well at all times. What separated her from 1st was needing slightly neater lines when moving. 3rd Victoria Wilkins. 60+yrs (3,1) 1 Diane Hartopp, this ladies first time in a handling class I was told. She presented her Cairn Terrier beautifully at all times, showing her at the correct pace. I would love to see a neater lead and a little more awareness of my position in the ring; however, she had a very apparent rapport with her charge and they made a lovely strong pair.
