Minehead & District Canine Society Open Show

Judge: Amy Harris (Dreamcurl)

Thank you to the Minehead & District Canine Society committee for inviting me to judge and thank you to my stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and were a joy to work alongside. I had a very top-quality entry for my classes so thank you all. A point of note with the Labrador Retrievers, I saw a lot of issues with feet. A lot of the Labradors had splayed feet instead of the correct tight foot and a lot of the yellows had red staining on their paws and between their toes from excessive chewing and/or licking of their feet. Very pleased though to say all dogs present in all breeds I judged were shown in good condition with no dog being overweight.

1. COURTIER Miss D M Maycourt Cover Shot, 4 Year old lovely Liver Bitch. Very giddy and animated today exuding confidence but still having that degree of aloofness. Correct scissor bite. Deep chest with strong well-muscled rear. Tail level on the move flowing with topline. Moved a little close behind on the down and back. Curls nice and tight along neck and topline with a nice crisp feeling to the touch, curls a bit looser on the sides likely due to change of season and coat. BOB

1 HILLEN, Dr R S & Mrs G L, Weipowa License To Thrill, 20-Month-Old Docked Bitch with a glorious metallic sheen to the coat. Coat was tight and evenly covered the body with no thin patches. Feet tight with well arched toes. Her head was feminine yet strong. Her movement was effortless. BOB

2 JEFFERIES, Miss L, Rivertone Athena Over Silbermeer, 22-Month-Old Bitch. A lot of the same qualities as 1. Coat tight to body and evenly covered from head to tail. Eye colour complimented her coat shade wonderfully and she had such a gentle expression. Topline was a little weaker than 1 and her movement a little rushed on the day due to excitement which spoiled her outline on the move.

1 FIELD & BURGESS, Mr S & Miss S Seasham Tupelo Honey at Adhemar 7 month old puppy bitch, my notes start with “whirlwind of excitement” because she was having the time of her life in the ring which was lovely to see such a happy puppy. Stood alone but very worthy of her placement. In lovely condition and for such a young puppy a very balanced body. Whilst I couldn’t see her movement perfectly due to the whirlwind of excitement, the little that I did see her footfall was spot on. She should mature into a very pleasing bitch. BP

2 SHERPA, Miss G Winterwell Tubby Tompkin From Nyliram JW Another solidly marked Liver GSP. Again, total balance throughout the entire dog alongside lean yet hard muscle. He covered the ground quickly and with ease.  RBOB
