Irish Setter Club Of Wales

I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the Irish Setter Club of Wales

Committee for inviting me to judge at their Open Show held in partnership with the

Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show. It was a perfect day for Dog showing, warm

and dry. I am happy to report that' had no lame exhibits and, with the exception of a

couple of senior veterans, the dentition was correct. The overall balance and type of

the exhibits was excellent, some classes were of a super quality, many with difficult

decisions.

Veteran, BITCH (2,1)

1 .Heather's SIXOAKS LEADING LADY, 9 years, pleasing height and profile, balanced

head and foreface, skull correct shape, moderate in stop, strong in neck, nota hint of

throatiness, muzzle has good depth without being coarse, good depth to rib, not wide in

front, good bone, strong topline and loin, neck flows quite well into correct topline,

croup and tailset, strong rear quarters and well muscled lower thigh, good feet, small

and tight. Sound and true on the move, with good action. Correct tail carriage. BVB

Minor Puppy, BITCH (1

1 .Sturrock & Watt's FORFARIAN THE SEDUCED 7 months, raw but promising, nice size

and profile for age, head is balanced and with correct backskull, dark eye, pleasing stop

and muzzle, strong neck of good length, flowing nicely into a well laid shoulder, good

depth of rib for age, strong in topline and loin, strong in foreleg, pleasing muscle in rear.

Good feet for age too. Showing good reach out front and drive from the rear, she's a bit

loose but that'll tighten up, coat needs time but is rich in colour and correct in texture.

Junior, BITCH (3,1)

Two very nice young bitches, separated on the day by small margins,

1 .Sketchleys SAMETSUZ SO TO SPEAK 1 5 months, pleasing head and neck, balanced

in foreface with clean lines, scored in muzzle here. I liked her eye shape, colour and set

Of ear. Good lay Of shoulder and flowing topline, deep enough in rib, strong in loin,

correct in stifle, enough bone with good feet, well muscled in rear, being a strong and

true mover took the class. Just needs time a little time to finish.

2.Childs & Longbottom's GWENDARIFF GRACE KELLY (Al) (IKC) 16 months, another

promising young bitch, very sweet in expression, correct eye shape, good set to her ear,

not quite as strong in muzzle as 1 but preferred neck here, lovely in rib and bone, good

shoulder and return, strong loin and well muscled, moved soundly butjust preferred

reach of 1 today.

yearling, BITCH (3,0)

1 .Bouttell & Burbridge's IXIA THE LOVECATS headed this challenging class, at 22

months with a nicely balanced skull, good backskull and parallel in planes, correct eye

of dark hazel, lovely length to neck, would like more flow into withers, good shoulder lay

and return, enough forechest and brisket, good bone, sound topline and croup, deep

enough in rib and strong loin, sound in rearquarters. Well muscled and with strong

hocks and lovely feet. Best mover in class for me. But still would likea more driving

action.

2.Taylor's DENDROCH ANNE FRANK 23 months, really liked the look of this bitch, lovely

in profile, sweetest head and expression, good eye and ear, pleasing neck and just

flowed into her super topline, lovely depth to her rib and strong loin, nicely muscled in

rear but a bit too loose for me in the hocks, Better reach and drive here than 1 but need

time for conditioning, shown in a lovely coat.

3.2.Hopewe11 & Greenan's RIVERWOOD X WRITTEN IN THE STARS (IMP BEL) JW 21

months, another pleasing bitch in profile and head, sound throughout. Just missed out

today.

2. Love's DAIRIS FLAME OF FAITH 4 year Old bitch, lovely in profile, good balance to

skull, pleasing dark eye, correct length of neck, good depth to rib and strong through

topline and loin, preferred the flow Of 1 from neck through topline, well muscled in rear,

moved true but not quite the action Of I . Pleasing hocks and feet.

Undergraduate, BITCH (3,0)

1 .Childs' PENCLIPPIN CELTIC ARIA Lovely 4 year Old bitch, super in head, lovely

feminine and elegant balance to foreface, would like a fraction more neck length but

this flows nicely into shoulders, lovely topline and well muscled rear, excellent depth to

rib and lay Of shoulder, good length to foreleg, coat in good condition, lovely feet,

excellent in stifle and hock, soundest mover in class.

2.Kassube & French's CARARUA SPRING PEARL (JW) Very elegant youngster, not quite

the expression or muzzle Of 1 , but correctly shaped dark eye, super neck and topline,

which flows through to tail. Deep in rib and enough forechest, just preferred loin on 1 ,

well muscled in rear, good stifle and feet, sound in action, slightly preferred 1 for rear

action.

Graduate, BITCH (4,0)

Lovely class of bitches, places could easily be swapped on another day.

1 .Berry & Morriss' RIVERBRUE MYSTIQUE AVEC BRINARAJW nearly 2.5 years and just a

lovely balance to this bitch, not the biggest but really attractive in profile and on the

move. Sweet head and eye giving the sweetest of expression, very feminine and with

good back skull and eye, lovely shape to muzzle. Loved the length to neck here and

flowing into topline, good depth to rib and enough bone. Lovely pasterns and feet.

Strong in loin and rear quarters, presents herself as racy and then moved with a free

flowing and powerful gait, with good front reach. Excellent coat and tail carriage. One to

watch.

2.Vincent & Spencer's CORRANROO WINTER MOON OVER CAERVlSTAAnother quality

bitch, just over 2 years, larger caste here, anothervery sweet expression in balanced

skull, enough neck and super topline, strong in rib and bone, well muscled in rear.

Lovely action butjust preferred 1 for balance.

3.Neill & Ellrich &Jones GWENDARIFF FLIRT IN A SJIRT (IKC) JW 2 years, super looking

and promising young bitch.

Super pair of bitches, both of a lovely size with excellent balance.

1 . Edwards & Ostman's EMMA COPPERS MAHOGANY DREAM CATCHER just over 2

years and oozes the quality I was looking for. Lovely in head and eye, pleasing muzzle,

super length to neck, super lay Of shoulder and one Of the best upper arms today.

Excellent depth to ribs, strong with a flowing topline, lovely bone and feet. Strong

through loin, well muscled in rear. Lovely condition on coat. Moved with a superflowing

gait, powerful with correct reach and drive. At one with handler. RBB

2.Mugford's KEDALTAABFAB FOR LYNWOOD JW 3 years, Another super bitch, so sweet

in expression, balanced in foreface, correct eye and with a lovely neck flowing into

topline, Good depth to rib, strong through topline, loin and rear quarters. Strong in

pasterns and with tight feet, another flowing mover which was elegant and powerful.

Marginally preferred the action on 1 .

IO. Mid Limit, BITCH (1

1 . Peters' CORRANROO VIENNESE WALTZ TO SHIRLILAH Pleasing bitch at 4 years,

good height and excellent in profile, pleasing skull, paradel in planes, correctly shaped

dark eye and moderate stop, attractive expression and correct ear set. Good length to

neck, correct lay Of shoulder and good upper arm return, enough in bone and with tight

feet, strong in topline and loin, well muscled throughout, pleasing croup and tail set.

Moved with a powerful and flowing gait. Good tail carriage.

11. Limit, BITCH (3,0)

Another super class with a trio of bitches which could easily swap places on another

day.

1 . Peters' CORRANROO HOT SENSATION AT SHIRLILAH sound, strong, balanced, racy,

sweetest expression today, just loved her in foreface and that was the factor which

decided it today, super balance with a lovely dark eye and ear set. correct in back skull

and muzzle. Lovely length to her strong neck, neck flows into topline, deep to rib and

well muscled across body and loin. Anotherwith excellent upper arm. Really liked her

in rear quarters, not overdone in stifle or hock. Sound and strong on the move with

lovely tail carriage, free flowing gait with pleasing reach and drive.

2.C1arke's COVARNEY DREAM TIME FROM BRONRIANS MI, 5 years, another beautiful

bitch with excellent balance and style. Just lovely in head, pleasing eye and muzzle,

super length to neck and flowing into topline, so sound and strong through excellent rib

and well muscled throughout. Shown in a super coat with tight feet and excellent drive.

Super class again,

1 .Roffey's SH CH GWENDARIFF SKYS THE LIMIT (IKC) One I have watched from a

distance, just lovely in height and profile, outline just flows from occiput to tail, super

skull shape and parallel planes, dark eye, correct ear set and length, lovely length and

strength to neck, super shoulders, correct amount Of substance with strong pasterns

and tight feet. Excellent through topline, loin and croup, excellent tail set and carriage,

well muscled in rear, not overdone in stifle, powerful and flowing gait, showing

excellent head carriage. Just listing the positive attributes Of this bitch doesn't really

convey the balance and type Of this girl, she has the raciness desired, the balance

which is so pleasing and the conditioning which brings a smile to the face. When she

moves out, it is exactly how I want an Irish to gait, it is strong, true, flowing and looks

like it could be done all day. Irresistible for me. BB & BIS

2.Mugford's SH CH LYNWOOD RATHER SCRUMTIOUS lovely profile on this 5.5 year

Old bitch, sweet head and dark correct eye adds to her expression, pleasing muzzle,

lovely length to neck, strong in rib and topline, well laid in shoulder and good bone, Well

muscled in rear and with a strong, true, flowing gait. Lovely feet, shown in good coat.

3.Heather's SH CH SIXOAKS MY FAIR LADY JW another excellent exhibit, approaching 6

but full Of type and quality. Pleasing head and sound in confirmation and action.

1 .walker's GWENDARIFF FLAGS ARE FLYIN Just 7, lovely size profite and presence.

Shown in lovely condition, correct length and shape of skull, correctly shaped dark eye,

well set ear and with super muzzle, neck and topline, pleasing flows from occiput to

tail. Well laid shoulder and good depth to rib, ample bone with good pasterns and feet,

lovely croup and hard conditioning on rear quarters. Moved outwith a true and sound

powerful gait with excellent tail carriage. RBD

2.Love's DAIRIS EMPORER EXCELLENCE 1 1 years, lovely condition for age and a

straight and powerful mover, lovely shape to skull, gentle expression, correct ear set,

good length to neck, sound in rib and loin. Muscled nicelyfor age, well handled.

1 .Berry & Morris' FORFARIAN THE UNCLOAKED Promising young lad at 7 months,

pleasing in height and profile, nicely shaped skull for age, pleasing muzzle and dark eye,

ear set correct, good length to neck, deep enough in rib, strong through topline and well

muscled for age, with plenty of bone and tight feet. Moved out soundly enough, is true

in action but needs time.

1.Hys10p's GWENDARIFF LITTLE WHITE LIE (IKC) 17 months, nicely balanced in profile,

good height, pleasing skull shape with parallel plans and good back skull, dark eye of

correct shape and correct ear set, good length to neck and flowing into well laid

shoulder with pleasing return Of upper arm. Liked his bone and front pasterns

much. Good depth to rib, strong across topline and loin, well muscled in rear and

sound, strong, moverwith good tail carriage. Hopefullywill mature well.

17. Yearling, DOG (2,0)

Absolutely lovely pair Of youngsters in this class. Both extremely promising.

1 .Clarke's RIVERBRUE GIVES YOU HELL Super looking, 19 months dog, in profile, just a

flowing picture. Head doesn't disappoint, lovely balance to skua, dark eye and good ear

set, strong neck Of good length, into lovely shoulders, deep ribs with lovely spring,

strong loin and tail set, well muscled in rear, lovely bend to stifle, excellent in hock.

Strong flowing mover showing reach and drive, handled very well. Destined for fine

things I feel, this lad just oozes the and type so pleasing for me. He has such

balance with strength and yet still has that racy aspect. Strongly considered for RBD.

2.Fosters' IXIA BOYS DON'T CRY AT SHANOAH JW nearty 2 years. Another fine looking

young dog, good profile and size, not quite the refined presentation Of 1 , but lovely

balance to skull, strong neck and lovely topline through loin, super depth to ribs,

excellent foreleg and pastern, strong in rear and moved true and soundly, just preferred

rear driving action on one today, shown in good coat.

1 . Walker's GWENDARIFF HANKY PANKY JW (IKC) 2.5 years, pleasing in profile and

good height to this lad, balanced skull, good eye, and ear set, stop is a bit strong for me.

Lovely neck, well laid shoulders and return, sound in rib and brisket with good topline

and strong loin, well muscled throughout with a pleasing action showing soundness

fore and aft, good tail carriage,

2.Kassube & French's THENDARA HOT DIAMOND AND CARARUA nearly 3 years, super

in profile, pleasing head and eye, lovely neck and shoulders, good depth to ribs, but

they are too short for me giving a longer loin that I'd really like. Well muscled and with

good shoulders but preferred the hocks and rear action on 1 .

21. Post Graduate, DOG (3,1)

1 .Richards' REDCLYST CAPTAIN KIDD 5 years old, lovely in profile and height here,

balanced in skull with good parallel planes, dark eye, good ear set and length, strong

neck and into lovely shoulders, good return, strong bone, deep ribs and strong l,

excellent topline and well muscled loin, good muscling in rear, with correct tail set and

carriage, I like the action this lad showed, free flowing and with good drive.

2.Harris' FAIRHAVEN YOUNG SOUL FOR KONAKAKELA (IMP SWE) just over 2 years,

lovely profile here too, another with a balanced skull, dark eye, pleasing muzzle, lovely

in neck and shoulders, well ribbed, strong loin, plentyof bone and well muscled. Lovely

texture to coat, just preferred the driving action Of 1 today but has time and is

promising.

22. Mid Limit DOG (4,1)

Spoilt for choice here with three lovely dogs, au JWwinners, showing good type,

balance and conditioning.

1.S10ane's FERASHEEN HOT PROPER TEAJW Nearty 4. Just that little bit extra in

elegance for me, super in profile, lovely gentle expression in correct skua with parallel

planes and a lovely dark eye, good length to strong neck and flows beautifully into lovely

shoulders and topline, deep and long in rib. Strong in loin and lovely croup. Well

muscled in rear and handled at the correct speed showing flowing reach and drive.

Shown in super coat and on tight feet. Destined fortop honours I think.

2.Russe11's TREON TOUCH OF MAGIC BY SETTERSOLI (IMP KCJ) JW 3 years and pushed

1 close in many aspects and could easily swap places with him. Elegant head and

expression, lovely eye and ear set, correct in head balance and planes, super neck and

topline, shoulders and rib, strong in loin and well muscled rear, excellent pastems and

feet. Marginally preferred 1 on the move.

23. Limit, DOG (3,0)

1 .Lucas' GWENDARIFF BATCHELOR BOY nearly 4, of a lovely size and profile. Super

shape to skull, dark eye and pleasing muzzle. Lovely neck, strong and clean, well laid

shoulders, super topline and good depth to rib, well muscled through loin and rear

quarters, moved strong and true, best of class. Powerfuland pleasing balance and

presentation here, sound and strong throughout.

2.Wa1ker's GWENDARIFF UCANT TOUCH THIS JW super 5 year old, pushed 1 and could

easily exchange placings. Lovely head with pleasing muzzle and eye, preferred length of

neck here, strong with pleasing arch, lovely ribs and topline, croup and tail set. Lovely

substance and pasterns, well muscled throughout, on tight feet. Moved free and

driving, preferred tail carriage here, just splitting hairs on rear action today.

1 .Edwards' SH CH COPPERS GET OFF MY CLOUD BY BONHOMIE (IMP SWE) super

looking dog in profile, of good height and just flowing in elegance from occiputto tail,

pleasing expression and balanced skull with parallel planes and lovely eye. Super

shape and length to muzzle, tight flews. Lovely neck into excellent shoulders and upper

arm, super topline and croup, well muscled throughout with good pasterns and feet.

Moved true and with eye-catching reach and drive. This lad is a picture Of balance and

type for me, he is both robust yet racy, strong yet exudes stamina. Graceful, effortless

gait really shows Of his qualities. BD & RBIS

2.Childs• PENCLIPPIN CELTIC FLYER I really liked this 4 year Old lad but he•s a little let

down by conditioning and feet. Lovely head, pleasing shape to skull and muzzle, dark

eye giving lovely expression with a good length to neck and super ribbing. Strong in

topline but would like harder upper and lower thighs. Moved soundly but preferred the

drive 1 .
