Tredegar & District Canine Society

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Mini-Bull Terrier

I would to thank the Committee of Tredegar & DCS for the invitation to judge Staffordshire Bull Terrier and to "pick up" the Mini-Bull Terrier due to circumstances.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppy (3,2)

1.Webb's GAZSTAFF'S THE GAMBLER 9 month old Black Dog from one of the most prominent kennels in South Wales, this youngster is all there and oozes type for me. Really typical head, broad and deep, lovely stop, correct half-pricked ears, excellent muzzle to skull ratio, very pleasing flews, correct eye and pigment. Strong in neck, super in topline, croup and tailset. Lovely width to brisket, very nicely laid shoulders, good upper arm and super foreleg, strong and straight. Front feet excellent in size and positioning. Lovely rib on this youngster, strong loin and excellent muscling for age in rear quarters. Lovely in hock with tight feet. Tail shape and length excellent. Moved out as I expected, brisk, powerful gait, straight and true. Very bright future I think. BP

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Graduate (1,0)

1.Reed's KENBLOOM STONE AGE 16 month blue Bitch, very unsettled to start and this needs controlling. Attractive in general outline but tail lacks type. Head is broad enough and she has a decent ratio to her muzzle, pleasing eye, stop and ear, correct pigment, neck is long enough, topline is sound enough, she has depth to rib and good brisket, shoulders have a good layback and her bone is fine in the front assembly. Tight feet. She has the potential to improve, primarily conditioning, as a well-muscled Stafford is a thing of beauty. Rear has a bend of stifle, hocks are fine and she has good feet. Just lacks the muscle I would expect from this breed.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier (2,1)

1. Mayers' MAYNESTAFF SMOOTH CRIMINAL JW a super 5 year old Dog which I have seen before. He is just full of type for me, he has strength and presence in the ring, combined with excellent breed type, he is lovely to get hands on. Super shape to skull, lovely ear, dark eye of correct shape, excellent pigment, correct stop and a lovely ratio of muzzle length to skull. Tight flews, clean throat, strong neck, lovely in shoulder, upper arm and foreleg, ample width across forechest and brisket, ribs are deep and long, topline is strong with excellent loin. Super muscling in rear quarters, lovely lower thigh. Hocks well let down. Excellent in tail set, length and shape. All this on tight neat feet. Moved out with purpose and good drive from rear. A pleasure to judge. BOB

Mini-Bull Terrier Special Yearling (3,0)

1.Thompson & Pentecost's OAKFAYRE'S RISKY BUSINESS JW No risky business here judging this little beauty, one I seen as a puppy and one who appears destined for good things. Super pleasing 13 month Dog, in White, of good height and length, he oozes quality from his well-pigmented, correctly down-turned nose to the fine tip of his correctly set and carried tail! Just lovely in head shape and profile, correctly shaped eye of jet black colour, lovely ear, super-strong in neck and body, what a pleasure it is to judge fit dogs. This lad has a lovely lay of shoulder, correct upper arm, strong in straight foreleg, super feet, ample rib and brisket, topline and croup with super tail length and carriage. Rear quarters are no disappoinment, full of muscle, correctly angulated, super second thigh, lovely hocks. Gaited beautifully with the correct true driving action required. He is straight and true. BOB, G1 & BIS

How thrilled I was for the Handler and the Breed to be recognised and awarded a fully deserved BIS. Congratulations!

2.Maskell's CASAMELROSE IRON HORSE Dog at 8 months old, Tricolour, very sweet and promising young lad. Has good breed type and is in a smart condition too. Head still needs to finish but lots to like here, good shape and excellent muzzle length. Pleasing eye and ear, strong through neck, body, rib and loin, pleasing muscle in rear, shown on good feet. Very promising. BP

3.Maskell's CASAMELROSE PULLMAN MISSY litter sister to 2, just pipped today by her brother's more controlled demeanour. She is White and has a good breed type, pleasing head and eye, strong in neck, body and rear quarters. I really loved her attitude and this will hopefully remain with her. Moved out brightly and with a driving gait. Good luck!

Mini-Bull Terrier Open (1,0)

1. Thompson & Hughes' GLACIAL FORTUNE DREW TEG VIA GRAYMOR 7 year old White bitch, lovely size and profile, quite unsettled to start but in an endearing way. Lovely in head and body, well muscled in the right places, she has an excellent eye and good ear set. I would like more tuck-up but it is not detrimental to her function. Well muscled in topline and loin, rear quarters, with lovely feet. Moved out strongly but not really able to assess her gait as she was enjoying herself far too much.
