Mid Somerset Agricultural Society

I would like to express my warmest thank you to the Committee 

of Mid-Somerset Agricultural Show - Dog Section - for the 

invite to judge at their show on 16th August 2026. It was a very 

warm day and the ground was very hard and with grass stubble a 

couple of inches long. Several Hound breeds were affected by 

this. I have to thank my lovely stewards, Gordon and Pam, for 

keeping things flowing really quickly with the breeds. It was a 

long day but I had a large number of excellent exhibits to keep 

me occupied.  

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR) 

55. Puppy (6,2)

1.Braddon's TRENDLEWOOD FOR ALL WE KNOW 11 

month yellow Dog, nice head piece with good balance, plenty in 

substance and bone, deep to chest and good shoulder and return 

of upper arm, well muscled for age, tight feet. Strong topline 

and moved soundly. I really liked this lads strength throughout 

and substance. Needs to tighten up a little but promising. BP & 

G3

2. Goodwin's MCFARWINS STRIKE A POSE, 9 month yellow 

bitch, best mover in class, lovely head, very feminine, strong 

neck and topline, sound shoulder and return. Strong muscling 

and nicely compact. Moved with good drive. Another promising 

youngster who just needs time. Loved, in particular, her 

expression and feet. Just missed out today on 1's strength.

3. Kennett's MAGNAVALLEYS MOJITO 9 months Dog, 

another promising youngster. Just pipped by 2 for compactness. 

Has strength and style and will mature well I think.

56. Special Yearling (2,1)

1. Moody's TRENDLEWOOD HOMETOWN GLORY JW 21 

month yellow dog, good height and profile, enough in 

substance, pleasing head piece, broad enough in skull. Good 

length to strong neck, plenty of rib and brisket, good return of 

upper arm, plenty of bone and strong topline. Well muscled 

through rear quarters and good tail set and carriage. Coat as 

desired with lovely texture. Super mover with straight driving 

action. Sadly, nails too long causing splayed feet. Bright future 

though.

57. Post Graduate (7,1)

Lovely class with 3 JW Winners vying for the top spots. Super 

quality and very sound in type and gait.

1. Kennett's MAGNAVALLEYS MIMOSA JW Chocolate 

bitch, 2 years, compact and well muscled, strong through 

shoulder and topline, pleasing feminine head and expression, 

good length to neck, best feet, sound in rear muscling. Lovely 

texture to coat. One I have judged before and still like very 

much. So sound and strong. Shown in super condition and 

handled very nicely. Just missed out in the challenge today but 

improving with age.

2. Hoban's MEADOWLEIGH TIME TO DREAM JW Black 

bitch at 2 years old, very sound and compact, another pleasing 

head shape and strong neck, good bone, lovely shoulders, 

excellent depth to rib, strong rear quarters, shown on good feet. 

Sound and true mover. Hard to split these two lovely bitches, 

just marginally preferred the muscling on 1. Both very 

promising.

3.Wallace's DREAMMAKE FOR TIAJA JW (IMP DNK) 3.5

years, super quality bitch, lovely head, neck, shoulders and 

body, strong topline and sound rear quarters. Moved with strong 

true gait.

Absolutely lovely class of Labs, splitting hairs to separate 4 

good quality exhibits.

1. Evans' ROCHEVALE BEAL JW Yellow Dog coming up to 

3, just so sound and true, lovely in profile, sweet head and 

lovely strong neck, super in bone, brisket rib and muscling. 

Moved around with powerful drive. Oozes Labrador type for 

me, strong throughout, powerful in muzzle and shown in hard 

condition. Active and powerful gait coming and going. Tail 

carriage correct and didn't stop wagging. BOB

2. Perkins' MCFARWINS GREY LEGACY BY 

KEENINSPIRES JW smart Yellow Dog at 3, another super lad 

in good condition, marginally preferred 1 for driving action on 

the day. Lovely head piece and bone, substance and muscling. 

Preferred feet here, both with lovely return of upper arm. lovely 

topline and rear muscling. Shown in correct texture coat, at one 

with handler. Preferred tail carriage on 1.

3. Kennett's MAGNAVALLEY OVER THE MOON 4 year old 

Black Dog, really liked this lad when I seen him before, good 

height and profile, so sound throughout. Shown in a lovely 

muscled condition. Correct gait action on tight feet. Just up 

against it today in Open.

Dog, black & tan, good height and profile, pleasing eye and ear, 

sound in neck, shoulder and rib, deep enough brisket, sound 

bone and well muscled, strong topline and good feet, not 

overdone in stifle, best mover with sound, true and free flowing.

2. Smart's AMENBURY PHOENIX OF FIRE AT 

SHAMIRALAND 8 month merle Dog, exquisite expression, 

lovely in head piece and neck, sound through body and 

shoulder, well muscled for age, needs time to body up and 

develop muscling but very promising. BP & PG4

3. Smart's AMENBURY TWIN MOON AT COASTELCOVE 

Litter brother to 2. Similar structural qualities, sound and 

attractive. Shown in a lovely condition. Just preferred 2 for drive 

in the class today.

AUSSIAME (IMP ITA) 5 year Dog, black and tan, super 

condition, not carrying any excess weight, lovely mature 

masculine head, good eye and stop completes it. Pleasing neck 

and body, sound in shoulder and return, lovely bone and well 

muscled holding strong topline stacked and moving, super feet. 

Moved with excellent gait. Handled to perfection in the class.

bitch, super condition here, lovely head, sweet expression and 

eye, lovely neck and topline, super in rib and brisket. Bone and 

feet. mover with excellent gait, just preferred 1 for expression 

and attitude today.

month black bitch, lovely broad front, plenty of rib and brisket, 

pleasing head proportions for age, good length to neck, strong in 

loin and topline, enough muscling in rear. Good feet, needs time 

and yet quite promising. Gait a bit frisky but did settled to show 

sound action. Would improve with schooling.

black dog, shown in super condition, excellent head with good 

eye, well filled cheeks and excellent muzzle. Strong in neck and 

well muscled in rib, brisket and topline, super muscling in rear. 

Gaited correctly on good feet, excellent tail carriage. Lovely 

example of the breed and handled to perfection on difficult

excellent, conditioning and coat are super for age. Pleasing 

head, strong neck and topline, well ribbed and good bone, 

moved with an excellent gait, at one with handler BP & PG1

2. Pawson & Mantle's SNOW ROSES CINNAMON (IMP 

NLD) pleasing Sealyham, bitch, 8 months, nice quality bitch 

but hesitant and requiring some schooling. Pleasing head, 

enough neck and sound through topline and rib, nicely muscled 

for age, tail needs to strengthen up, is promising if encouraged.

months, presented well, pleasing skull and eye sound in shoulder

A breed I am particularly fond of, only two exhibits entered 

today, but both of excellent quality.

to 1 and pushed 1 close, splitting hairs on quality, just preferred 

more compact 1, pleasing head and eye, super bone and 

muscling and lovely topline and conditioning, moved with drive.

Interesting class, two quality exhibits. 

1. Turner's CH DEVONHOUND WHO'S THAT GIRL JW 

SHCEx OSW absolutely super tan and white 3 years bitch, super 

driving action, very attractive on the go around, pleasing head, 

correct eye shape and ear length, strong neck and sound in 

substance and muscling. Strong through topline and rear 

quarters. Driving action was irresistible on difficult ground 

today.

2. Saunders' BECKSHOUNDS LUMINARA JW another lovely 

bitch, black and white with tan points bitch, super head and 

neck, lovely topline and substance, well muscled in rear, just 

lacked the drive I was looking for today.

and muzzle, lovely length to neck, strong in shoulder, rib and

gait.

Another tight class with two excellent exhibits,

1. Murphy's FELINOAK GOSSIP AT RHOSYNDU (AI) just 

the sweetest 2 year bitch, compact in profile, sound in head 

proportions, lovely shape to skull and muzzle, good ear set and 

length, strong neck, lovely shoulders, topline and rear quarters. 

Best feet and pasterns. Moved soundly and with drive on 

difficult ground. BOB & G3

2. Bidey's REDCAP THE COURIER JW Dog, less compact but 

full of quality, another excellent head piece, strong neck, sound 

topline and well muscled, good gaiting action but preferred 1 for 

compactness and drive on the ground today. 

DACHSHUND (LONG-HAIRED) 

First of the Dachshund classes, my fears were well founded 

when I observed very few Dachshunds coping well with the 

hard 2 inch stubble grass. Many hopped and skipped to avoid 

the stubble.

1. Curteis-Lateo's SWANSFORD PRIYANKADORA 2 and a 

bit year old red bitch, lovely head piece, good muzzle and dark 

eye, strong enough in neck and topline, good return of upper 

arm, well muscled in rear, good feet and action. A little more

dog, similar quality in head piece, lovely neck and good topline, 

deep enough in rib and good return of upper arm, A bit long in 

loin for me. Well muscled and handled. Gaited with drive.

Lovely 3 year old red bitch, super head, nicely wedged. Strong 

in neck, lovely topline, excellent return of upper arm, deep keel 

but plenty of clearance, strong short loin and well muscled rear. 

Gaited with a sound driving action.

2. Parker's LUCKYTAILS SKYE AT ZORIONADAX JW 

Super Black and tan bitch, is lovely in profile with a good head 

piece and eye, strong in topline and correct upper arm, moved 

true but carrying too much weight. Could be a lot better with 

more conditioning.

DACHSHUND (MINIATURE SMOOTH-HAIRED)

1. Ergis' SIOUXLINE TRINITY Red brindle bitch 11 months, 

super head, nice wedge and pleasing eye, strong neck and 

topline, good shoulders and feet, liked sternum. 

Nicely muscled rear. Gaited true.

2. Somerton's RIJOBEAU PANDORA BOXX 2 year black tan 

bitch, not quite the head of 1, would prefer a more defined 

backskull, sound in neck, shoulders and topline, preferred 

sternum on 1, gaited well with drive.

Lovely pair of Miniature Smooths, lovely in profile and type.

1. Ergis' SIOUXLINE TROJAN Brindle dog, litter brother to the 

PG winner, so sweet in expression with excellent backskull, 

neck, topline and muscling, lovely mover and well constructed. 

Very promising.

2.Small's GLYNLYTHE'S HEIRLOOM FOR DEVONDAX JW 

Red bitch, also lovely in head and and eye, sweet expression, 

strong neck and topline, well muscled and moved with good 

drive. Suffered with the ground I think, just fractionally 

preferring the drive on 1

DACHSHUND (WIRE-HAIRED)

130. Open (3,0)

Super class of three quality exhibits.

1. Matthews SONHAM FIRE CRACKER Super class headed 

by a 3 year old brindle with a lovely shaped head and super 

shoulders. Pleasing eye and neck, strong topline and well 

muscled in rear. I really like his sternum and upper arm and his 

reach and drive won the class.

2. Parker's VIXENDAX TORNADO Dog at 18 months, pushed 

1 close but needs a bit more time to mature into the finished 

article. Pleasing head and body, sound in muscling and gait. 

Struggled with the ground at times. 

DACHSHUND (MINIATURE WIRE-HAIRED) 

Lovely quality in this breed today, really lovely to judge.

1. Rose's ROZAMIE REFLECTION OF ROSENCRANTZ JW 

Lovely bitch, 2 years, fawn brindle, very attractive head and eye, 

well muscled through and the pick of the movers today. Lovely 

front angles, deep to rib. Nicely muscled through topline and 

loin, good rear muscling and good feet. 

2. Coles' ROZAMIE REPUTATION Bitch, 14 months, similar 

qualities, lovely head, neck, topline and rear quarters, just 

pipped on the drive of 1 today.

Three JW Winners in this class which oozed quality. Absolutely 

fabulous to be able to judge such quality.

1. Kilroy's BLACKVEIN RAMBLER AT JANACOP JW Bitch, 

nearly 5, headed this tight class which was hard to split, this one 

was a compact fawn brindle bitch with a gorgeous head, strong 

neck, lovely shoulders and return.. Strong topline, long deep ribs  

and well muscled in rear. Best moving Dachshund here today.  

Untroubled by the ground, light on toes but super drive with 

excellent reach. Irresistible in the group. BOB & G4

2. Kilroy's JANACOP SWEET CHILD OF MINE JW 17 

months Dog, very similar in quality, very promising and just 

splitting hairs on compactness and drive. Smart head and eye, 

strong throughout with compact body and strong topline, well 

muscled rear quarters. Good driving action.

3. Rose's MERRYLINE MARTHA WITH ROSENCRANTZ  

JW, bitch at 2 years, lovely in type and quality, strong in 

construction and sound mover but seemed to struggle with the 

ground today.

(IMP USA) JW High quality exhibit, lovely in height and 

profile, so sound and strong throughout, excellent balance to 

foreface, excellent ear set and shape, lovely length to neck, deep

move with grace and drive. At one with handler. BOB

2. Carter's CH AFILADOR ROOM ON THE BROOM ShCM 

ShCEx VW 10 year old bitch, undoubted top quality in her day, 

still mostly sound and true, pleasing head and ear set strong 

neck and deep rib, good topline and muscling, moved out 

soundly but not the drive of 1.

height and profile, pleasing skull and lovely muzzle, powerful 

and not snipy. Super length and strength to neck, excellent in 

shoulder and topline. Deep chest to elbow and good tuck up. 

Strong in loin and well muscled rear, short hocks and excellent 

feet. Would prefer a more defined pair of crowns but they are 

present. Ridge tapers accurately. BOB & G2

gentle rise over the loin, pleasing muscling for age, when he's

bitch, headed this class of two good whippets, strong and lovely 

in profile. Sweet head and expression, lovely length to neck, 

best topline of class, well muscled in rear and good feet. Correct

JANIKDAW 2 year old grey dog, another good head, strong and

Very interesting class of Hound Imports, 2 Basset Bleu De 

Gascoyne and a single Azawakh. Utterly different but pleasing 

quality in all three.

(IKC) Azawahk 6 year old bitch, off square correctly and lovely 

in size, super head and eye, lovely neck, strong in ribs and 

topline, shoulders and rear quarters, moved true and sound. Best

2. Gombas-Juhasz's HUN/BEL/IT CH VEGAS DES VALLES 

LONGERONNAISES HUN/ROM/CH/NLD/INT JCH Basset 

Bleu De Gascoyne, lovely head and eye, sound in neck, rib and 

topline, upon it's toes and moved true and with good feet.

AV HOUND

1.Carter's CH AFILADOR ROOM ON THE BROOM ShCM 

ShCEx VW showed her socks off in this class. Lovely quality

and handled beautifully. Clear winner.

2. Kilroy's BLACKVEIN CUPID AT ANACOP Mini-wire, 8.5 

years, so lively, excellent in profile and head, nicely balaneced 

skull, strong neck, good sternum, upper arm, topline and rear. 

Excellent mover, lively and robust gait.

3. Rose's PENNYDACH MYSTIQUE AT ROSENCRANTZ 

VW delightful Mini-Smooth, just over 8 and super in type and 

action. Pleasing head and eye, strong where it matters, moved 

true over difficult ground.
