I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at the show today.

The committee did an outstanding job of putting the welfare and safeguarding of the dogs first during the third UK heatwave of the summer. The decision to start an hour earlier was an excellent one, ensuring that the hottest part of the day had less impact on both the dogs and humans.

When I arrived, there was a lovely summer breeze, and the field was well prepared with plenty of gazebos and shaded areas, allowing the dogs remain comfortable and relaxed before and during judging.

It was clear that every effort had been made to create a safe and enjoyable environment and atmosphere for everyone. Thank you once again for your kind support over the years to the exhibitors for bring your lovely dog under me. It was lovely to see breeders and owners from the pass when I had my GS back in the 90s 

Veteran dog (4 2A)S

1ST Mappin SH CH Bryerdale Quantas litter brother to veteran bitch two very nice dogs that have mature nicely A distinguished veteran dog who has retained all the qualities expected of the breed. Masculine head with a clean, well-defined outline, dark expressive eyes and a kind expression. Strong neck leading into well-laid shoulders, with a firm topline, deep chest and well-sprung ribs. Good bone and substance throughout without losing balance or elegance. Correct front and rear angulation enabled him to move with a free, effortless stride, maintaining a level topline and showing good reach and drive. Presented in excellent coat and muscular condition, a credit to his owner. He showed enthusiasm and enjoyment in the ring, carrying himself with confidence and dignity. A worthy Best Veteran, demonstrating that quality, soundness and true Gordon Setter type can be maintained well into his veteran years. Well shown and handled by his handler to get best out of him 

2ND Harker SH CH Hernwood Achillies AT Ettrick JW VW A quality veteran dog of pleasing breed type who was presented in good coat and condition. Masculine head with a kind expression, dark eyes and correct ear placement. Good reach of neck leading into well-laid shoulders, with a firm topline and well-sprung ribs. Well-balanced throughout with good bone and substance. Moved soundly with a free, steady stride, maintaining his outline on the move. He was shown in fit condition and is a credit to his owner. Today he came up against an outstanding class winner but was a deserving second in a competitive veteran class.

Puppy dog 2 two totally different types 

1ST Mitchell Cottonstones Dawn Treader BY Brobruick puppy that needs more time to be at his best, nice head and expression, adequate neck and front construction, needs more spring of rib, would prefer a stronger back end and more angulation in the rear, moves OK, just need his coat as well 

2ND New Benbuie The Last Hurrah very nice puppy the collect balance and size for his age nice head with nice dark eyes lovely dark tan low set ears nice reach of neck very well angulation front with shoulder sloping well with good forechest elbows close to body forelegs straight strong with upright pasterns body well developed for his age with sprung of ribs good topline leading into a collect tail set hindquarters still need to develop but that will come with time once he moved he move with drive such a shame he would let me go over the complete the hands on just at the funny age shame as really like him to give him first time out for while to settle him down nice tan colour

1ST Hall Rhiwgerrig Caractacus BY Melveiw 1st in Graduate dog nearly 18 months old young dog maturing well nice head/expression dark eye colour with low set ears little, short in the neck balance body shape good angulation fore and rear topline carried well on the move moved well would like a deeper tan marking

1ST Mappin & NEWTON Glenquin Hurricane Bryerdale see he a son of veteran dog just like in style and movement he will have fun in the future at shows will be watching out for his show results Head of good proportions with clearly defined stop, eyes dark brown and set well. Medium size ears that set low an lay close. Correct scissor bit. Neck moderately good Topline is level and held well on the move. Shoulders well laid back - good straight foreleg. Moderate length depth of brisket forechest needs to develop more with age Feet well arched. Lovely mover with good drive from the rear. Clear tan markings Super coat with a lovely shine!

1ST Tye Roydack Black Knight AT Tymora A promising young dog who is still at a rather rangy stage of development, as can often be expected at this age. He has a pleasing masculine head with a kind expression, dark eyes and correct ear placement. Good reach of neck leading into well-laid shoulders, with a firm topline and adequate depth of chest, which should continue to develop with maturity. Well-angulated front and rear, with good bone and quality throughout. Moved freely and soundly, covering the ground well, although he would benefit from a little more maturity to complete the picture. Presented in good coat and condition and handled sympathetically. One to watch as he continues to strengthen and mature

2ND Halliday Hero Majestic Manon Lescaut Yennadon (imp cze) A pleasing 3-year-old Gordon Setter who is still maturing. Masculine head with good expression and correct ear placement. A well-made dog with good bone and substance, although a little shorter in height and with slightly less length of neck than the class winner, which affects his overall balance and outline. Good topline and body proportions, with a sound rear and moved steadily around the ring. Presented in good coat and condition and shown well. A quality exhibit who should continue to strengthen and develop with maturity

3rd Burke Cottonstones Dazzling Lad

Limit dog (3 1A) 

A lovely class with two very typical Gordon Setters that I greatly admired. Both dogs showed excellent breed character, quality and true Gordon Setter type. Both moved with good drive and purpose, covering the ground well and showing sound construction.

1st –1ST Sandiford Hernwood Rocketman JW

 A very well put-together dog with excellent overall balance and a strong breed outline. He had a particularly good rich dark tan, which added to his attractive appearance. Good head, body proportions and sound movement, making him a very worthy class winner

2nd Warren & Mazzeo Benbuie Comanche Another quality Gordon Setter with many excellent breed attributes. A very pleasing dog with good type, soundness and a lovely presence in the ring. He also moved well with good drive and was a close decision between two very good exhibits. A difficult class to separate, with both dogs representing the breed   

Open dog (4 1A)

1ST Fudge Feildberry Secret Weapon AT Rufusmoor JW SGWC WOW WOW A superbly mature 4-year-old Gordon Setter who immediately caught my eye the moment he entered the ring. A dog with real presence and the unmistakable “wow” factor. He presents a beautiful picture of the breed, combining quality, balance and elegance with strength and substance.

Excellent masculine head with kind expression, good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, a firm topline and excellent overall proportions. Strong body, good bone and correct angulation, giving him the ability to move with freedom, drive and purpose. His rich colouring and excellent coat added to his impressive appearance.

He carried himself with confidence and showed the true character of a Gordon Setter. A beautifully mature, well-put-together dog who stood out from the competition and was a worthy Best in Show winner

2ND Sandiford SHCH Hernwood the Botanist JW SHCEx OSW Another outstanding dog who was a pleasure to have in the ring. A quality Gordon Setter of excellent breed standard, showing good type, balance and sound construction throughout.

A lovely head with good expression, strong neck, well-laid shoulders and a firm topline. Good body proportions, correct bone and pleasing angulation. Moved with purpose and drive, showing the soundness and quality expected of a champion.

A very close decision between two exceptional exhibits. This is a dog with many excellent qualities and a worthy Champion who represented the breed extremely well

VETERAN BITCH (5 2A)

1st MAPPIN SH CH Bryerdale Quangeroo sister to veteran dog winner A lovely veteran bitch who still presents a very typical Gordon Setter outline. Feminine head with good width of skull and well-defined stop, dark expressive eyes and correct ear placement. Strong neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, good depth of chest and firm topline which she held well on the move. Correctly angulated front and rear with good bone and substance without coarseness. Coat in excellent condition for her age, carrying rich black with clear tan markings. Moved soundly and steadily around the ring, covering the ground with an easy, balanced stride. Well-handled and shown in hard condition, a credit to her owner. Deserved her class win. Nice to see both sibling together for best veteran 

2ND Hall Melview Phoenix A veteran bitch of good breed type with a feminine head and kind expression. Slightly smaller than the class winner but balanced throughout with good bone and substance. lighter tan markings than 1 and she was presented in excellent coat and condition. An elegant mover, covering the ground with a free, effortless stride while maintaining a lovely outline. A quality veteran who showed herself well and is a credit to her owner.

3RD Tong Benbuie Rose Quartz With Kellizlot 

JUNIOR BITCH 2 two very nice young bitches that will whops places different day at shows under different judges. 1st had a better fore chest than 2nd but 2nd had deeper tan to 1st it was really spitting hairs on this two, but it came down to movement 1st moved with plenty of drive

1ST Watkins Craft & Ghesquiere Empyreal Desert Tempest AT Glenmaurangi ( imp can) really like this bitch was happy to award her Best Bitch but some thing spook her on her movement and she just wouldn’t get back into her stride such a shame she will have a great future head of her with styles out line and movement that won her class RES BEST BITCH BEST JUNIOR A quality bitch of excellent breed type. Attractive feminine head, good reach of neck, strong topline and well-balanced construction throughout. In lovely coat and condition, she moved freely and soundly with good drive from the rear.in the class Remarkably fit and well presented for her age and a worthy

2nd Sandiford Hernwood Superstition JW very stylish in profile nice head shape deep mussel long reach of neck good angulations nice topline leading into a nice tail set would like a bit more forechest as 1st had but it was her beautiful coat and colour I like to move with drive 

NOVICE BITCH 1

1st Potter Benbuie Chinook AT Helian Stood alone in the class but fully deserving of her placing. A pleasing young bitch with a feminine head and kind expression. Good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, giving a balanced outline. Good forechest, straight front legs with quality bone, and correct body proportions Strong, well-developed hindquarters with good width and nice straight hocks. Moved freely and soundly, maintaining a firm topline and showing good reach and drive. Presented in good coat and condition and handled well.

UNDERGRADUTE BITCH 2 l.

1ST Garbett Gailiech Beverlydottir A very pleasing 3-year-old bitch with a strong, quality head type and good low-set ears, giving a lovely breed expression. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a nice balance between height and length. Would like to see a little more forechest at this stage, which should continue to develop with maturity. Good hind angulation, with strong rear construction and nice straight hocks. Good tan markings adding to her overall appearance. Moved 

2ND Garbett Langstrumpf Hochsommer she may small and mighty if you read the meaning of it but she rocket pocket on the move what a sweet girl she is up against family member. Very feminine bitch with a lovely intelligent expression. Head of good proportions deep - slightly rounded skull. Well defined stop. Neck moderately long. Shoulders long and well laid back. Topline level and held well. Nice well arched feet and elbows tight. Well bent stifles. Moved well in

GRADUATE BITCH (3 2A)

1ST Sandiford Hernwood Eternal Flame A quality bitch with a pleasing head, would like to see a little more stop and a deeper muzzle. Good low-set ears adding to her correct expression. Lovely reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with good forechest and straight front. A shorter-bodied bitch with a nice firm topline and good tail set, giving a balanced outline.

Good hindquarters, well-muscled with strong rear construction and nice straight hocks. Good tan markings adding to her overall appeal. Moved well with good freedom and purpose, showing good breed type and soundness.

LIMIT BITCH 1

1ST Hall Clohass Diamond BY Melview Stood alone in the class, a mature 5-year-old bitch with many qualities to admire feminine head with dark eyes correct ear set and good clean head planes. Strong neck leading int very good front assembly with good body development and substance. Excellent topline and tail set giving balance and attractive outline lovely deep tan markings add to her overall appeal. nicely matured bitch with good breed type moved well presented in good condition

OPEN BITCH (7 3A) A lovely class of three quality Gordon Setter bitches, all with many excellent breed qualities. It was a pleasure to watch them move together around the ring, almost like synchronised swimmers, each showing good rhythm, balance and purpose.

All three bitches displayed good breed type, sound construction and were presented in excellent condition. Each had their own individual strengths, and all were worthy representatives of the breed. A difficult class to separate, with much to admire in each exhibit.

1ST O”Kelly & Hancock SH CH /IR SH CH Caradliis Sparks At Boyers A quality mature bitch of excellent breed type and balance. Feminine head with a well-defined stop, dark expressive eyes and correct ear placement, giving the desired soft expression. Good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a firm level topline and well-set tail. Excellent depth of chest, well-sprung ribs and strong loin. Correct bone and substance without any coarseness. Well-angulated fore and would like hindquarters a bit more angulated , move with a free, effortless stride and plenty of drive while maintaining a true topline. Presented in excellent coat and condition, with rich black colouring and clear tan markings. Shown to advantage and handled well throughout. Best Bitch 

2ND Upton- Lovett Roydack Portrait of a Lady A quality bitch with a pleasing head, dark eyes and a soft expression. Well developed in front with a deep brisket and good forechest. Rich tan markings complemented her overall appearance. Good reach of neck leading into well-laid shoulders, with a firm, level topline and moderate length of body. I found her to be well balanced, of correct size and presenting a clean, flowing outline. Strong hindquarters with good muscle and angulation gave her the drive to move beautifully around the ring. A very worthy second in a strong Open class

 3rd Burke CH Beechlake Hey JUDE swgc
