I would like to thank the committee of Oakengates & District Canine Association for inviting me to judge Border Collies and for their warm hospitality. My thanks also go to all the exhibitors who entered and accepted my decisions so graciously. I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment

JUNIOR

1st — Wenmap Special Arrival — Best Puppy

A lovely young bitch of excellent breed type. Attractive, well-proportioned head with a kind eye and alert expression. Good length of upper arm, balanced throughout, with good bone and strong pasterns. Correct length of tail completing a pleasing outline. Moved freely with excellent drive, covering the ground with ease. A quality youngster with much to admire and a deserving Best Puppy winner.

2nd — Piece of Happiness Tornado at Petalnote

A well-constructed young dog with a lovely masculine head and pleasing expression. Good bone and a firm, level topline, presenting a balanced overall outline. Moved freely with good reach and drive, covering the ground well. A promising youngster with many virtues, but today he lacked the overall breed type of my class winner.

POST GRADUATE

1st — Wenmap Topkapi Gem

A one-year-old black-and-white bitch of excellent breed type. Very attractive, feminine head with a broad, flat skull, well-defined stop and intelligent expression. Balanced throughout, with excellent rear angulation creating a pleasing outline. Carried her head well on the move and displayed the sound, effortless action characteristic of the breed. Her movement and overall quality gave her the edge in this class, and she was considered closely for Best of Breed.

2nd — Jerseywood Love In The Dark

A well-balanced exhibit with a pleasing head and expression. Good length of slightly arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, creating a balanced outline. Carried the head well and moved soundly throughout. A pleasing exhibit who, on the day, did not present quite the overall picture of my class winner.

OPEN

1st — Blackgold Basil from Starside — Best of Breed

A very typical black-and-white dog with a lovely masculine head and expression. Good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, a strong, level topline and excellent rear angulation, creating a balanced and pleasing outline. Correct pasterns and feet. Carried his head well and moved with sound, characteristic action, covering the ground with ease. A quality dog combining breed type, balance and soundness, making him a well-deserved Best of Breed winner.

2nd — Amkamel Half Blood Prince

A very typical dog with a masculine, well-proportioned head and keen expression. Strong, muscular neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a firm, level topline and balanced overall outline. Moved effortlessly, covering the ground with ease while maintaining his shape. A dog of considerable merit who made the final decision difficult, but today my winner had the edge in overall balance and breed type.
