York Canine Association Open show

Thank you for a great entry overall, well attended show with well organised rings, some lovely quality dogs of many breeds especially in the stakes classes however one point of note, a couple of dubious temperaments on the table, one has to question if a dog is not acquiescent to being handled on the table without growling, if it should be in the show ring at all rather than challenging the judge for ‘over handling?’

Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

Puppy (3 ,1 abs)

1st Richardson's Kringlehome Mystere: Longer cast Blenheim with a very nice head and expressive large kind eye, good size overall and nice bone, good cushioning and foreface. Very pleasing expression, in good coat for age; would benefit from more training but promising; needs to strengthen on the rear. Best puppy and RBOB.

 2nd Callaghan and Todd's Granasil Incantations, well bodied Ruby with good rib and length but in need of more training, lovely dark eye but not the sweetness of expression or appealing head of 1, quite loose going away needs to tighten in movement.

PG (3 ,1abs) 

1st Callaghan and Todd's Callyspride Cedric, Handsome Blenheim male presented in lovely coat and condition and very well handled, well-schooled presented a good picture strides out well, nicely balanced head, soft expression and well cushioned foreface. Lovely set back of front legs presenting a really good shoulder angulation- very pleasing dog. BOB.

2nd Richardson's Kringlehome Corvette –Blenheim female mother of best pup and very similar type good size nicely balanced head with a pleasing expression nice dark eye moved OK, not the make and shape, coat or presentation of 1.

3rd Kilcoynes’ Granasil Tea Leaf, Shorter coupled black and tan who didn't make the best of herself today.

Working Group

WG1 Johnsons Atlanticbreeze Bailey by Lupinemoon JW (IKC)-Siberian Husky.

Handsome 3yr old upstanding, very attractive dog of lovely balance, strong legs and feet moves with drive and purpose, level topline, well coated, well-muscled, correctly carried tail, spot on for size, masculine head of good proportions, lovely eye. well-schooled and did all that was asked of him, well-moulded foreface, attentive showman, beautifully presented thick double coat, delighted to award BOB & WGp 1.

WG2 Leonards’ Bearox Jackpot-Dogue de Bordeaux Well balanced masculine dog, showing good depth of chest and well laid powerful shoulders, good length of back, well set long tail well carried on the move, clean mover ,rich coat ,well boned good legs and feet well balanced head and pleasing expression -overal impressive dog .

WG3 Bells’ Cleon Canis Giganotos-Leonberger; Handsome 3 ½ yr old dog, in good coat, makes lovely picture standing, nice dark mask, good pigmentation, dark eye , tight dark lips, head handles very well, broad with well-fitting square foreface, well-shaped feet, well boned legs, rear double dews, moves strongly going away but a touch narrow, good straight front with elbows tucked well in. Shows well.

WG4 Grisdale’s Vanmore Spill the Beans- Great Dane; Mature smaller Fawn girl with black mask, carrying a bit too much weight, which showed a little in front movement today, very springy going away, nicely balanced, good topline -looks lovely in profile, well-muscled over loin, strong neck & well carried head just lacking a little power in movement today for higher honours. BOB on head qualities and maturity.

Working Puppy Group

WPG1 Cubitt’s Zeafather’s Wreck It Ralph for Zebleldane -Great Dane

Very Elegant, well grown dog carrying a lovely body and superb bone for age, excellent spring and lythe going away, lovely depth of chest and shoulder placement, well-muscled neck and carries head well, giving that rakish outlook. Correctly angulated behind, bit plain in head at the moment as still needs to mature a little, has the length but still to fill in a little over the cheeks and muzzle to give that moulding and breadth, good mouth and lips. Carries good topline both standing and, on the move, fine dense sleek coat. Just needs a little more time to strengthen further in front pasterns; Really impressed with him.

WPG2 Phoenix’s D’Alkontres Spice Up Your Life Northwinds (Imp Ita) Malamute;

7 month beautifully schooled, really well boned pup, not big, but a lovely body and rib coming together very nicely, really good drive and movement, well set and carried tail. Lovely eye and expression, good sized and used ears, topping a well-proportioned head , excellent front upper arm and lay of shoulder, a really exciting promising pup. One to watch for the future.  

WPG3 Johnsons Lupacchiotto’s Street Cred by Lupinemoon-Siberian husky: 

 Johnsons Lupacchiotto’s Street Cred by Lupinemoon, young dog of nearly 12 months, immense quality, very handsome, well grown and developed, oozes health and vitality and fit for function, lovely balance & bone, superb legs and feet presented in super double coat of correct texture and condition, well-schooled and a serious challenger. Head of lovely planes, although not quite so clean through the eyes at present which tipped the balance in favour of his older kennel mate for BOB.

WPG4 Cannons’ Supeta’s Jazzylicious-Doberman: 

Very pleasing mature 11-month1 well-muscled young bitch, carrying just a touch more weight than ideal today. Very nice type with well-balanced head and good expression, with a better set and shaped almond eye than most, good topline and very neat mover both ways. Would challenge the best at primed weight. A very worth winner.

PG (2 ,0 abs)

1st Selbys’ Bantambox Gin Fizz, ultra lean 2 yr Brindle bitch with superb muscle tone, loose curled tail, good length to height balance, moves very true; very keen bright expression, good rib, well boned legs, strong pasterns and neat tight feet. Good mover, strong drive behind and good reach in front, stands and shows well, presented in excellent condition BOB.

 2nd Georgeson and Zakiene’s Daisy Doo Yellow, younger junior bitch who is carrying a bit too much weight today, needs a bit more training and better rapport with her handler, can move true but more control needed, good size and bone. Well-proportioned head, long lower tail, very nice eye and pleasing eager expression.

1st Jacksons’ Sakarladrift Frosty Paws for Azilvik,18-month silver junior bitch, with very attractive head markings and a very good eye. Built on more racy lines, good balance of length to height, well bent stifle and shaped rear, well-padded rear feet. Difficult to assess in movement as somewhat erratic today, would benefit from better control and a calmer outlook.

2nd Cambpells’ Sakarladrift Blitzen for Emberhowl, litter brother to 1, another hyper junior at that very difficult age, has good depth of rib, not enough body for me and lacking strength in topline, typical juvenile male, although very narrow through with immature body and coat as yet, good legs and feet, good depth of skull, but needs a lot of time and better schooling.

3rd Jacksons’ Aloustairs Circle of Life for Azilvik, very fine, racy, quite small red 30-month bitch, who although has nice head and foreface, lacks the body and bone I was looking for.

2nd Cambpells’ Icehowlers Dream Queen for Emberhowl –2 yrs old bitch. Attractive well-balanced head and pleasing alert expression, nice type who moved quite well going away with well carried tail, although far too thin for me. Rather steep shorter upper arm,

3rd Bailey’s Goldwind Djastin Fantastic for Serumrun (imp KTZ), Immature 18-month young dog who is very narrow through and needs to develop some strength in legs and pasterns, head needs time to flesh all over, appears rather a 2-piece head at the moment.

1st Phoenix’s Ch Northwinds Grtest Showman JW ShCEx OSW, BOB; presents a lovely picture standing, handsome upstanding mature dog, good length of back, lovely depth of rib and well balanced all through, good drive going away, however, favouring his rear right leg somewhat today. Presented in excellent coat of lovely texture, good topline, nicely moulded foreface and muzzle, good shape and set of eye, giving pleasing expression, would prefer bit tighter feet; a top contender on another day.

2nd Leonards’ Ch Bellamiabam She Loves You at Bearox RBOB, very pleasing expression and head on this feminine girl, well boned and muscled but rather wide in front and although good legs and feet and moved well going away not showing the levelness or strength in topline of the dog today.

1st Nixon& Pattersons’ Faithful Acres It’s a Magical Time at Wilderland (Imp USA),BP; Well boned and a good sized 9-month young bitch, good deep body with well sprung rib, well let down behind, nice length of tail, moves out with purpose, slight toeing in coming towards, well-shaped feet, good breadth of head, nice short muzzle, in excellent coat, nice dark eye. Pleasing pup.

1st Crosiers’ Nurburgnewf Cayman ShCEx VW,BOB, Upstanding 8-year-old boy with good muscle tone and length of loin, although moving quite narrow going away, but true. Good topline and lay of shoulder, slightly longer in neck and tendency when standing to angle head forward rather than upward today. A little narrower in front, would prefer more breadth of back & chest. Good pigmentation and mouth, lovely soft kind expression.

3rd Williams’ Shalissa’s Mulberry, litter brother to 2, and again particularly narrow in front as yet, less so at the rear with quite good angulation, although movement was strong going away needs to tighten up in front.

1st Cannons’ Sacaria’s Blues; Red dog with lovely planes to his well-balanced head, quite good expression, good chest and tuck up, strong slightly sloping topline. Moves true and goes with drive, well-muscled neck and balanced overall body, good legs and feet.

2nd Weavers’ Shalissa’s Dolce An Gabanna

O (3 ,2 abs)

1st Bradbury & Sandersons’ Jodaseen Steel City Blues, smaller 3 yr old bitch with a very pleasing head and correct topline, a little more weighty than ideal, but excellent type, well let down behind, good depth of chest, strong tight feet, tail carried high, standing & moving a bit too wide in front today, short thick coat.

2nd Robinsons’ Korifey Matchy Matchy JW, 2-year-old bitch who moves out well going away, and has a good stride when viewed in profile, has good pigmentation, but needs to tighten front pasterns, not the topline or eye set, shape or preferred expression of winners.

1st Harvey’s’ Annica’s Utterly Divine at Rottamore- Rottweiler -BP -pretty 7 months pup with well angulated rear, really well boned legs and good feet, nice topline, carrying good body with well-developed rib, correct tail set of good length. Sweet head and expression, good mouth; moves out well -enjoying her day out – promising pup

1st Wesley & Divines’ Wormlu Only The Worthy for Shadowgate-Mastiff 12 month old dark brindle bitch at that difficult juvenile stage, well grown and good length, ample depth of chest & quite heavy bodied, well-muscled rear, although needing a bit more strength in movement both ways to pull it all together and create that easy extension and ground covering action desired, head of good size and well-shaped giving correct square appearance, good short coat, lovely nature.

1st Blaneys’ Bel/Ita Ch Nipnattens Strong AvaalaQiakulooQ Fenrirkin (Imp Nor)- Greenland dog- BOB handsome dog shown in excellent thick coat of great texture despite the summer weather, slightly sloping croup, nice deep broad chest, high carried thick and bushy tail, straight well boned front legs, well laid back front with close fitting elbow, moving free & easy, straight going away but with slight unease in one hock today. Lovely balanced head with really appealing eye and expression -quality dog! BAVNSC

2nd Jones’ Nikolaev Roussanne at Abbiville, Bouvier, Well-built mature 5-year-old bitch, compact body with good deep ri but who I felt was perhaps carrying a little excess weight making her a bit too heavy, whilst moving well in a side gait/profile, with nice front extension, was overly wide behind, and standing a little too wide at the back today too. Very well boned powerful girl. Nice flat skull, well filled foreface and good mouth and teeth, quality girl, pushed hard. Very well handled.

Very soundly made, short coupled well-balanced dog, superbly presented and handled, well moulded slightly tapering foreface, afront a good head piece, well filled cheeks, good wide nose. great pigmentation, well set eye, good expression, correctly shaped and set ears, superb legs and feet -well padded; true lively effortless movement; very pleasing dog.

2ndBradbury & Sandersons’ Jodaseen Bootylicious -Doberman; attractive mature 6yr old Dobe with lovely balanced head, well set ears, well built with good depth of rib, if a bit weighty today; Nice tail set, although moving at speed, covering the ground well had tendency to pace on and off today. Stands well and gives excellent picture in profile.

Very well handled and shown. Impressive bitch.

2nd Dronsfield Vanitonia Specter of Whitbraith, Clumber spaniel, quite mature 7-month younger dog who pressed hard, really promising pup, well-shaped feet, lovely balance, with fab bone and body for age, lovely head & type, presented and handled in super condition, one for top honours, I’m sure.

1st Crook & Walkers’ Echobase Shining Star, Large Munsterlander,17-month bitch, very nicely put together with all fitting well and no exaggerations, good feet and legs, in nice coat of well textured fitted jacket, balanced head and pleasing expression, good depth of rib and nice length of loin, well-muscled -should make very pleasing adult.  

2nd Jay’s Talraz Midnight Lady JW, Bearded Collie, promising juvenile, with good head and expression, nice depth of chest and of good length, in very good cost of correct texture, nice type, needs bit more time to mature, a touch narrow going away, but free moving with drive keeping a good profile.

 3rd Barbers’ Larune Break the Spell, standard poodle.

1st Hunt & Olivers’ Songshijia Chief Kwangchow JW, Chow Chow, 3 year mature red rough coted upstanding dog who really impresses, no mistaking lion like type, very handsome dog, strongly made , deep chested, short coupled and powerfully built ,well set and carried tail, parallel moving both ways with short action, well boned legs, and correct feet ,broad head with flat skull, good mouth pigmentation, dense profuse coat on top of his head implies fuller skull, but handles well ;nice clean eye giving pleasing expression and great aloof attitude - lovely dog .

2nd Merritt’s Sperant Chocolate Cosmos JW -GSP; mature 4 ½ yr bitch, lovely size and shape, presented in beautiful condition, correct coat, good spring of rib and excellent topline, nice legs and feet and moved with fluidity -lovely typey head and outlook. 

3rd Fentons’ Shanmie Cartier -Tricolour Shetland Sheepdog, good sized well-built dog of correct make and shape, shown in good double coat of correct texture, moved out and showed well.

1st Mitchells’ Ch Foryd Soul Survivor at Yorvikmali P BEGEX-Belgian Shepherd Malinois,4 yr old bitch, very feminine mature, elegant shapely girl of good type, lovely free mover, good spring of rib and set of shoulder, well-muscled neck of good length, carries head well, well balanced head with lovely dark expressive well shaped eye, good legs and feet, well-muscled thighs, & good body all through and presented in lovely condition-worthy champion.

2nd Sewells’ Lynwater Mad Hatter at Quattrozampe JW -Cocker Spaniel,2 yr old dog, head handles very well, clean stop and good proportions, presented in lovely coat, good spring of rib and level topline, good size and nice legs and feet, bright and keen expression, strong movement going away, but little high stepping in front today.

3rd Selbys’ Bantambox Gin Fizz.
