I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge this well organised and friendly show. I was honoured and delighted to have been asked. I had two excellent and efficient stewards, who kept the ring running smoothly, for which I was so grateful for. 

All exhibitors displayed great sportsmanship which was great to see. 

Overall, the dogs were in excellent condition and although some posed a challenge when being handled, all had super temperaments. It was a pleasure to judge a breed displaying great characters and in the whole were very happy dogs.

1. Baines Sh Ch Bryerdale Quantas – A masculine boy with nothing overdone. Shown in excellent coat and condition. Masculine head with a lovely expression, correct proportions with a clearly defined stop. Good front assembly and well laid shoulder, well sprung ribs, strong rear and muscular hind. Carries his tail well on the move. Moved sounds and covered the ground with ease. RBD

2. McCarthy’s Hernwood Boston High Flyer – Not the bone or substance of the class winner, but still a pleasing example of the breed. Well proportioned head albeit not the masculinity of 1, close knit feet, would like a little more strength and width out and back, but showed good extension in profile. Holds his outline well and carries his tail well. Would like to see a little more angulation through the front. He has a good spring of rib and is in good muscular condition.

1. Mitchell’s Cottonstones Dawn Treader By Brobruick – 11 mth, still very immature, but he has a super head and expression, good bone and feet, he is moderately angulated and standing a little tall and upright at the moment so would hope he develops with time, has a pleasing topline when stacked but does tense slightly on the move. Still a little uncoordinated on the move and needs to strengthen right through. Just needs time. BPD, BPIS

1. Mappin & Newton’s Glenquin Hurricane Bryerdale – A well matured young male in excellent coat and superbly handled. I would prefer a slightly shorter foreface, good bone and feet, level topline which he maintains on the move, showed good reach and drive in profile, deep brisket, well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. I would just prefer a touch less rear angulation. 

2. Sandiford & Beagle’s Hernwood Master Blaster – Another dog full of quality, similar comments apply re movement, bone and feet. Head for me was a little strong in depth of muzzle but he still has a good expression. Long, clean neck, good front construction but could have a touch more turn of stifle, well sprung ribs, level topline and strong pasterns. Another dog benefitting from an excellent handler on the end of his lead.

1. Gregg’s Caradilis Fiach Dubh – Not the largest of males but still enough bone and substance to make him masculine. Really pleasing head, a pleasing outline but needs to watch the weight a little, well constructed front and good turn of stifle, holds his topline well, sound out and back and good side profile, just tends to fly his tail on the move.

1. Inglis’ Caradilis Jumping Jack – Masculine boy, a little strong in head for me, with a broad and domed backskull, could be better angulated front and rear and this showed in his movement as he lacks reach and drive, However, he maintains his topline on the move and has good tail carriage, deep brisket, good spring of rib, good feet and shown in super coat and condition.

1. Sandiford’s Hernwood Rocket Man – 2 ½ yr stylish looking male, well constructed front and rear, masculine head, clean neck, deep brisket, good ribbing, well proportioned body, sound out and back and excelled in profile showing reach and drive and athleticism. Overall a pleasing example of the breed.

2. McCarthy’s Hernwood Wizard Of Oz – A dog of different kennel type to 1. Masculine but heavier set in the head and not the detail of 1, balanced angulation front and rear although I would prefer a little more, good body and topline, holds tail well on the move, has good reach and drive but not the enthusiasm of 1.

1. Sandiford’s Sh Ch Hernwood The Botanist – Strongly built, masculine dog who won the class for his balance and soundness. Clean neck, sloping shoulders, enough bone, good length and depth to his ribcage, powerful hindquarters and a good turn of stifle. Sound in all directions and presented in excellent coat and condition - BD & RBIS

2. Johnston’s Ludstar Maccabee At Glenquin – A really close decision in this class between 1 & 2. Both lovely examples of the breed and both very stylish. I preferred the topline of 1 and the clean neck. This dog is so sound out and back and has super side profile movement, but he just tends to flag halfway and lacks the enthusiasm of 1. A real shame as there is so much to like about him.

1. Johnston’s Sh Ch Glenquin Phoenix – So here was my star of the day. I loved this bitch from the moment I saw her enter the ring. So full of quality and screaming of super breed type. Beautiful, well proportioned head with a lovely expression, lean neck, good bone and substance, deep chest, well ribbed, good angulation front and rear, well laid shoulder, and a good turn of stifle. On the move she is sound, holds her outline well, she is elegant yet athletic and covers the ground with ease. A super example of the breed. My notes say she was exactly what I was looking for, so I’m delighted I got the opportunity to judge her. A class act. BB & BIS & BVIS

2. Mappin’s Sh Ch Bryerdale Quangaroo – Another beautiful example of the breed but of a different kennel type. A little heavier throughout compared to 1 and more rear angulation, so not as strong on the move from behind. Good body and shown in fabulous condition, well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, deep chest, good spring of rib, a lovely richness in colour to her coat. Super side profile movement, maintaining her shape and carrying her tail well.

1. Sandiford’s Hernwood Superstition – Stylish looking bitch, although not as mature as 2, I forgave this as she has super qualities about her. Loved her head and expression, good bone and outline, well constructed front and rear with a well laid shoulder, sound on the move and all directions, holds her outline and carries her tail well, sympathetically handled and I’m sure she has a promising future, just needs more time. 

2. Johnston’s Glenquin Phantom – Another quality bitch, quite a similar outline to 1 and a lot to like about her. Good bone and feet, still needing more time to mature. Carries herself well on the move and uses her tail well, just not the topline of 1 and not quite the reach and drive.

3. Jones Rhiwgerrig Sonatina

1. Potter’s Benbuie Chinook At Coldwelfield – A strongly built girl, well proportioned head although a little strong for me, well laid shoulder and good front and rear angulation, pleasing outline, deep brisket, sound on the move, using her tail well, lovely coat and well handled. I would just like a touch more refinement and femininity.

2. Rhiwgerrig Sonatina –A lovely moving bitch but still very raw and needs time to develop. Very feminine, enough bone, good feet, brisket depth could be better, level topline, well angulated front and rear. On the move she is difficult to fault but she now needs to mature and gain body. Another that was a little too strong for me, so lacked elegance. Good bone and feet, 

3. Crowther’s Ronaldsbill Mystical Fire

1. Garbett’s Gailiech Beverleydottir – Presents a good outline when stacked but another strong bitch which affected the elegance and femininity I was looking for. Pleasing front construction and a good turn of stifle, well boned and good feet, good spring of rib, level topline. Sound enough and back but would like to see more reach and drive.

1. Sandiford’s Hernwood Lunar’s Gin – I really liked this girl, feminine, a beautiful, balanced head and expression with a good stop, lean neck, good forechest, well laid shoulder but would like a touch more return of upper arm, level topline which she holds on the move, well angulated rear which is broad and strong. Classic looking and shown in good coat.

1. Sandiford’s Hernwood Eternal Flame – The stand out winner in this class. Super headpiece, balanced, detailed and has a good stop, clean neck into well laid shoulders, good bone and stands on neat feet. Level topline, well filled front, deep brisket, balanced angulation front and rear, sound out and back and presents a super picture in profile, holding her topline and using her tail well. Stands well over her ground when stacked. Shown in good coat and condition. RBB

2. Thomas’ Glynderys Moonstone – A heavier set girl and not the elegance of 1. A little stronger in head and overall built on a longer frame. A little too much length to the loin which causes her to lose her topline. Good bone and feet, neck could be cleaner. For me, she presents a better outline when moving in profile, than she does when stacked. However, she does have a quality stamp to her.

1. O’Kelly & Hancock’s Sh Ch/IR Sh Ch Caradilis Sparks Will Fly – Stood alone but didn’t detract from what a quality bitch this is. Up to size with good bone and stood on close knit feet. Feminine with a balanced head and good expression. Well angulated and is straight when viewed from the front or rear. Level topline, which she never loses on the move, very sound out and back and presents a good picture in profile. Covers her ground with ease.
