Northern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Open Show

Firstly, my thanks to all at NCSBTC for the hard work promoting this show, the organisation on the day and the hospitality given. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and hope everyone else did too. I know only too well how much hard work goes into the shows, and a special thank you to my 2 stewards for the day, Justin and Millie. 

As always, the biggest thanks go to all the exhibitors for their entries and the honour of assessing their dogs and the sportsmanship on the day, my opinion is only one and I wish everyone the very best of luck for the future. 

Mouths were generally ok with the odd tight or misplaced canine, one broken canine and a few chipped or dirty teeth, but placings made accordingly and allowances made for age. 

As the day progressed it turned into a warm one, and I did not experience any exhibits with excessive noisy breathing or respiratory difficulties. Fitness levels were lacking on some exhibits, and made a difference to places, though due consideration was given for the younger exhibits. Conformation cannot be changed but presentation and fitness can so please do take note.

Class 1 Baby Puppy (4,2)

1. Saxstaff La Diosa (Parry and Gill, Miss S and Mr L) 16.12.25 BBPIS

Smart white and red pied bitch just short of a few days on being able to enter the main show and looks promising being more than ready for competition, she was confident and alert and knew her job well. Very clean in profile, head coming on nicely, tight clean lips, tidy ears and dark eye with a lovely expression, good bone for her frame, nice tidy feet, good front and rear angulation, moved well holding her topline and well handled. Good luck for the coming shows and will watch her development with interest.    

2. Legacy Staffords Angel From Heaven At Canisstaff (Hudson, Mr M and Mrs S) 15.12.25

Black brindle bitch with white toes and a flashy front leg marking which I am sure will draw the eye as she matures. She has a lovely feminine head with dark eyes, tidy ears and a good length to muzzle, clean in the lip. Good width to her front, she has a good amount of bone and again very much unmistakably feminine. Good front and rear angulation, well-presented and moved ok, just preferred the movement on the day of my first place but lots of time for these 2 and a few months may make a whole different picture, good luck and thanks for bringing her 

Class 2 MPD (1,0)

1. Jackstaff The Patriot (Gough, Miss CL) 04.10.25

Compact strong red male with white feet and front of 8 months, stood alone in class. This one was a real live wire in a confident and wriggly way which unfortunately went against him on the day as he couldn’t be fully assessed and hence probably didn’t have the opportunity to be as competitive as he could be. Good strength to his head and skull to muzzle ratio ok, lovely neat and tidy ears and dark eye to give him a truly wicked expression, he had eyes on me throughout and most certainly on his toes. Good width to his front and well boned, tidy feet, front and rear angulation was good and short coupled it was far easier to assess him visually than it was to get hands on him and his movement was very enthusiastic but appeared ok. Keep up with the ringcraft and get him settled, I’m sure it will pay dividends he certainly looks like he has the makings of a competitive puppy.

Class 3 PD (2,1)

1. Fairlenium’s Snow Storm (Fairhurst, Mr S and Mrs M) 08.06.25 BPD

Black brindle and white pied male of almost 12 months, stood alone in class but more than worthy of his placing. He did his job with ease. A very much standard dog, pleasing head not overly strong with a nice length to his muzzle dark eye and clean in lip, correct and tidy ears, good body shape in side profile, good width to his front which was clean and straight and well boned with correct front and rear angulation. Presented in good puppy fit condition, moved well with a noticeable driving action from the rear holding his topline, well handled, thank you for bringing him 

Class 4 JD (5,2) 

1. Airestaff Bob Dylan (Wilkinson, Mr D) 01.04.25

Red male of 14 months with white front and feet. Very appealing head with strength but not overdone and decent length to his muzzle, well set tidy ears and dark enough eye used well to give good expression watching the proceedings with great interest and enjoying his time on the mat though he was a fidget taking a bit of patience to fully assess him. On his toes throughout he gave his handler a hard time but happy I could see what I wanted from him. Clean straight front of enough width with a good amount of bone, very much a standard and balanced dog with a good profile in side view. Rib developing well and correctly angulated showing light in the loin he moved well enough once settled holding his topline, I would encourage his handler to keep up with the ringcraft and sure they will have some fun together.

2. Lidds Maximus At Romanomax (Lindley, Mr N) 13.04.25

White and red pied male of 14 months stronger and more compact than my first place and in good fit condition, good strength to his head, dark eye and tidy ears. Alert and attentive with good expression, prefer a little more bend of stifle, a compact package well-presented package, moved ok, handled well 

3. Kahamaia Jonah (Preston, Miss EA) 04.06.25

Class 5 YD (4,0)

1. Geordiestoon Defiant Boy For Weorc JW (Walsh & Lloyd, Mr M & Miss K) 29.07.2024

Dark Brindle and White male of almost 2 years , he has very striking front markings which draw the eye in, very strong head of good depth and width , dark eye , clean in lip with a good underjaw and very tidy ears which he made good use of , another very attentive dog throughout class watching every move , strong neck of correct length leading into correct shoulders , well ribbed and good angulation front and rear , he has a strong and clean front of good width with good bone and tidy feet nicely turned out , presented in very fit condition and a credit to his owners , a good tuck up and good definition to his rear quarters, I would have preferred a little more width to his rear to complete the picture, moved ok handled well

2. Skyland Tillikum JW (Miller, Mr A and Mrs E) 22.10.24

Black Brindle male with a touch of white on chest of just gone 20 months, classic strong and well defined head and nice dark eyes , tidy ears again used very well, good clean front just a touch less all over than the class winner but another in exceptionally fit condition which I might say having judged other dogs from this kennel before is a trademark to be proud of .compact in back close coupled and good strength to his rear quarters, moved ok handled well , a tough decision between these 2

1. Kensesqui Gobi Sparhard’s (Mckenna, Mr AM) 10.07.23

Red Dog with white bib of almost 3 years. Strong well-defined head, muzzle to skull ratio correct, dark enough eye, tidy enough ears used well to give good expression and topped off with a dark muzzle. Clean and straight front of good width, tidy feet and correct shoulder placement, good front and rear angulation, well ribbed and clean in profile with a good underline and well defined and solid rear quarters that he used well on the move. Overall, a well-balanced tidy dog presented in very good condition, moved and handled well

2. Tyneview Rizzius Lusso (Walbey, Miss N) 24.04.23

Dark Brindle male with white front and white socks of over 3 years, pleasing head with good definition and defined stop, ears tidy and used well, decent length to his muzzle, cleaner in the foreface than my class winner. Well balanced with a decent amount of bone and good width to front, feet could be a little tighter angulation good, and in a good state of fitness, moved and handled well. Another class with the top 2 very close on the day and could easily have been the other way round

Class 8 PGD (3,2)

1. Thee Real Slim Shady From Dekayro (Seymour, Miss CL) 26.10.24

To give the clique stood alone in class but did his job well and earned that 1st place. Black Brindle dog with white front of 20 months Pleasing head with a clearly defined stop and good length to muzzle, tidy ears, eyes dark enough, clean enough in the lip with a good underjaw. Adequate bone for size though much less all over than many of the exhibits today, good width to his clean straight front and lovely tidy neat feet with a slight turn out to create a smart looking dog to catch the eye front on. Another with exceptional fitness and turned out well. In side profile he looks well showing light in the loin and balance for size, nothing overdone. Keen and alert throughout, moved well holding a nice level topline, handled well 

Class 9 LD (2,0)

1. Kalostaff Es Lo Que Es JW (Lloyd, Mr S & Mrs A) 26.11.22

Black Brindle lad of over 3 years I have judged a couple of times before so been able to see him mature also. He is a stronger type with well-defined powerful head, dark enough eyes and tidy ears and a good length to his muzzle and a clean straight front with enough width leading to tidy feet, close coupled and in very good condition with plenty of rib and powerful rear quarters. Does his job well and makes a good team with his handler, moved ok holding a good topline. 

2. Tyneview Etna Nero (Jamieson-Bramley, Mrs DL) 24.04.23

Mahogany Brindle with white front and very much a standard well-balanced dog with nothing overdone and very clean outlines. A nice standard well defined head, ears a little tidier than 1st place, eyes dark enough and a good length of muzzle and was keen and alert showing good expression. He is ok for bone and enough width to his front, just unlucky to meet first today (sorry for the clique) and lost out over rib, strength and overall fitness but this lad isn’t so far behind and well worth a look , moved ok and handled well 

Class 10 OD (4,1)

A small but tough class to judge here with 3 good examples of the breed, for me 1st was my clear winner but I’m pretty sure with the qualities they all possess then very capable of giving each other a hard time on another day and my 2 main dog winners coming from the class just reinforced this. 

1. Dringshaw Strobe JW (Waltham, Mr S & Mrs K) 04.11.23 BD / BIS

White lad of 2 ½ years, a picture front on to grab your attention as soon as he comes in the ring, cracking headpiece on him of good proportions, lovely neat ears and eyes dark enough in relation to coat, with correct muzzle length and a good underjaw. He is very clean in the lip with good pigmentation and very much the showman with a wicked expression. Plenty of width to his clean front, and right amount of bone to balance with super neat well-padded feet. Showing plenty of forechest with correct depth of brisket tucking up to a neat waist and complimented with superb rear quarters and a good width to his rear end , angulation was good and as expected he moved out and back with ease and the best movement on the day, Looking good from all angles he is a very clean dog all over with virtue in abundance. His overworked handler did an excellent job with him and showed very much to advantage, thank you for bringing him.

2. Fairlenium Iron King At Canisstaff (Hudson, Mr M & Mrs S) 06.06.21 RBD

White and Brindle lad of 5 years I have also had the pleasure of judging twice before and this time he didn’t disappoint. He has a strong well defined head , nice neat tidy ears , and blocky muzzle of correct length good pigmentation with dark enough eye and a clean front of good width with correct bone and again nice feet, good amount of rib and a pleasing underline flowing back into well worked rear quarters, a little longer cast than the winner but another presented in really good condition. He moved out and back soundly and confidently and very well handled. He just lacked the animation of the class winner to make my decision harder, thank you for bringing him.  

3. Hamason Sweet Little Mystry JW (Robinson, Robinson-Cox & Cox, Mr H Mrs MA Mrs CL & Mr SC) 09.11.23

Class 11 VD (6,4)

1. Fairlenium’s Iron Man (Fairhurst, Mr S and Mrs M) 10.05.17 BVD

White male with red patch on head of 9 years, pleasing head well defined with good width and depth, tidy ears and dark eye creating good expression when prompted and notably selective alertness. He is clean in the foreface and clean enough in the lip with a decent underjaw , little up on the leg but with a good amount of bone and a clean straight front , well ribbed and light in the loin with good definition to his rear quarters and hard to the touch presented in very good condition so obviously no slouch at his age, Moved well out and back holding his topline , well handled , thank you for bringing him

2. Montgomery Guard (Wise, Mr DG) 05.07.18

Black Brindle of approaching 8 years. He has a typical head of good width and depth without being overdone, ears tidy enough and decent length to muzzle, clean in the lip with a good underjaw. Compact with good shoulder assembly and well ribbed. Moved out and back ok , handled well just preferred the overall fitness and animation of the class winner in comparison but I did note that I thought both exhibits were on the slower side in a warm room today, thank you for bringing him. 

Class 12 MPB (2,0) 

1. Jodel’s Lola (Williams, Mr E & Mrs LM) 29.10.25 BPB / BPIS

Red and White bitch of 7 months of good strength, but still very much just a lively baby learning the job. A pleasing feminine head coming on well, dark eye and dark mask, good length to her muzzle and a good underjaw and good expression when prompted. Correct length to her strong neck, she has decent width to a clean straight front showing forechest with tidy well-padded feet. Overall good substance, views well in profile but as a puppy so young should then still carrying a little extra and allowances made. Front and rear angulation good, moved well once settled and held a good topline. Just pipping 2nd place on minor points and had the better ring presence on the day and this also won her favours in the Bitch line up and BPIS

2. Jodel’s Layla With Tyneview (Jamieson-Bramley & Walbey, Mrs D & Miss N) 29.10.25

Litter sister to the class winner with many of the same attributes, a little more definition with her flashy head and a little shorter in the muzzle but generally just felt a little bit behind her sister on development , moved well, handled well 

Two young, standard attractive pups that will hopefully both do well. I’d like to see them again in a few months and see how they match up against each other as they mature, so will follow their results with interest, good luck with them both and thanks for bringing them along 

Class 13 PB (2,0)

1. Bullbrothers Celtic Star (Brookes, Mrs J) 15.07.25

Attractive Red and White bitch of 11 months, she has a feminine head of decent strength and definition with good length to her dark muzzle, good pigmentation, clean in lip with a clean and straight front of good width and adequate bone for size , feet are tidy enough. Correct front and rear angulation, a little longer cast which is fine for a bitch and has a pleasing underline with correct depth of brisket to the elbow. Moved well and handled to advantage by her young handler.  

2. Teshleystaff Everglow (Walker, Miss N & Mrs K) 10.07.25

Red Bitch with white front and legs of 11 months and of a different style to the class winner , another pretty feminine head of pleasing shape , dark eye and good skull to muzzle ratio, dark muzzle and a decent underjaw , ok for bone but would have preferred a little more width to her front , generally a little less all over to the class winner and a little over hunched on the rear which exaggerated her rear angulation affecting her topline when stacked , she was a little unsure and needed some coaxing. I’m assuming with names that this wouldn’t have been her regular handler. That said she still performed well as very alert in class and moved well enough and overall, her handler did a great job with her. She was a bit of a sweetheart and a pleasure to go over for a youngster.  

Class 14 JB (3,1)

1. Bullrichs Knock It Off At Jamnloz (Ford, Mr J & Dr L) 14.02.25 

Red bitch with white front and feet of nearly 16 months. This one most definitely eye catching and a bitch of quality. Exceptionally clean and very well balanced. She has a cracking head of good strength but unmistakably feminine , tidy well set ears , dark eyes with a piercing gaze, strong muzzle with good ratio to skull and a cracking underjaw, very clean in foreface Super front of good with and perfect ratio for bone and tidy neat feet, she has good spring of rib , nicely tucked up to a good waist and well defined rear quarters . Presented in tip top condition without being overdone moved and handled well. Definitely one we will see at the very top in future as she still has lots more to give with maturity. 

2. Crowstaff Seize The Day For Weorc (Walsh & Lloyd, Mr M & Miss K) 25.03.25

Black brindle bitch with white front and toes of 14 months and another of good quality to not make the class winner’s job an easy one , holding many of the same attributes of the class winner and very very similar in type, so I won’t be repetitive , she performed well , movement was good and with confidence , handled well . I just preferred the front and muzzle length on the class winner 

Class 15 YB (3,0) 

1. Hamason Heart’s On Fire JW (Willetts & Billingham, Miss G & Mr M) 24.08.24 RBB

Quality white bitch with red head and tail markings approaching 2 years and lots to like about this one . Very attractive and has the look at me factor about her with no exaggerations. A classic well defined but feminine head with good pigmentation , beautiful dark expressive eyes and very neat ears correctly set and used to perfection , with clean tight lips and adequate under jaw, everything on her is perfectly in proportion to her frame , with a clean straight front , nice tidy feet , correct front and rear angulation good ratio of bone, a pleasing view in profile and the hands merely confirming her excellent condition. Whilst doing her job well it was amusing to see her cheeky side enjoying her moment on the mat and at one with her handler, moved well with drive and handled well. Happy to award her Reserve Best Bitch and was certainly up there in my consideration for the Bitch winner on the day, a bright future I’m sure, all the very best of luck with her. 

2. Arkenstaff She’s The One At Brydonstaff (Petts Mr L & Mrs R) 02.10.24

Black Brindle Bitch of 20 months I had judged once before when she was just into Junior. Maturity has certainly favoured her. Strong and feminine head of good width and depth, tidy ears and dark eye she was very keen and alert in class. Another very standard bitch with just a touch more strength in her frame to the class winner. A pleasing front of good width and tidy feet. She is very clean again in outline and defined rear quarters, moved well out and back and handled well, just preferred the overall package of the class winner on the day with a performance that would have given her the edge over a lot of other exhibits

Class 16 NB (4,1)

1. Niatona Tafyta Muttonfudge (Reynolds, Mr G & Mrs S) 20.08.24

Red and white Bitch with black mask approaching 2 years and another I judged previously early into Junior and has come on well with maturity. Pleasing head of good strength, tidy enough ears used well and eyes dark enough, another pretty bitch, her front is correct with adequate bone, ok for rib, slightly longer cast, front and rear angulation is good and presented in decent condition. In the warm environment today felt she was flagging a little along with other exhibits but still put in a decent enough performance though I hope it’s taken as constructive at times like this a little more attention on the side of the handler for stacking could really up her game, movement was sound.   

2. Bullbrothers Rising Sun (Cushley, Mr SJ & Mr ST) 27.10.22

Black Brindle Bitch on the closer side to coming up 4 years old. She is of a much more compact style in her frame to the class winner. Beautiful feminine and strong head shape with tidy enough ears and the most endearing expression, she is well off for rib , good width to her front and correct bone for her size, feet could be tighter. The relationship between her and her young handler is a pleasure to watch and together they made it look so easy, moved and handled well. She had the better ring presence on the day, confident in her job

3. Dringshaw Red Flare (Waltham, Mr S & Mrs K) 04.11.23

Class 17 GB (5,0)

1. Thebilecious Te Amo Atlomstaffs (O’Malley, Miss L) 15.01.24

Red and white Bitch with white toes of almost 2 ½ years and well put together everything bang on standard and a real honest dog. Very clean all over, a lovely strong but feminine head with dark eyes and neat ears with a clean muzzle of good length. A lovely clean front and correct amount of bone for frame , In body she is well balanced with good spring to ample ribs flowing into a light loin and presented in good condition she was in full attendance throughout the class whilst being very subtle and laid back at the same time oozing confidence , and her expression if I could interpret in to words was “don’t miss me” She moved out and back with ease holding a good topline and was very much in my mind when considering my Reserve in the Bitch line up , I did note I had judged her previously as a puppy and though no notes due to her placing can only assume that she has excelled in maturity (though I did think to myself how on earth did I miss this) and she is a classic example of having patience and the good stuff will come , thank you for bringing her.

A tough choice between the 2 of these but being well matched in their virtues and type

1. Fairlenium Cloak N Dagger At Canisstaff (Hudson Mrs S & Mr M) 26.08.23

White and Brindle pied bitch approaching 3 years and I last judged as a Junior. A smart bitch of good quality with a strong feminine head that is super clean and well balanced with the rest of her. Beautiful dark , expressive eyes , tidy enough ears used well, clean tight lips she was on her toes throughout. Generally, a little less all over than many of the exhibits but a good width to her front and good ratio of bone for her frame, correct angulation, good depth to her brisket and enough rib , she has a good topline stacked and in motion and moved well out and back, handled well. She was presented in tip top condition another with maturity on her side

2. Skyland Ryoko (Miller Mr A & Mrs E) 11.01.24

Black Brindle Bitch with white blaze of almost 2 ½ years. Superb condition to this one and again a credit to this kennel on the work put in. Many similar attributes to the class winner with a lovely headpiece on her , correct skull to muzzle ratio , clean and tight lips, clean front of good width , touch less bone than the class winner but in keeping with her frame , lovely outline to her and a dazzling shiny coat, a little stronger in the head to the class winner, moved well out and back , handled well .  

Class 19 LB (4,0)

1. Geordiestaff Hadaway Pet (Banner, Mr JL & Mrs NM) 04.10.24 BB

Brindle Bitch of immense quality with white on front and toes of 20 months. This one for me really brings the wow factor. A strong and compact eyecatching well balanced pretty bitch that is bang on standard. A strong but feminine head with well defined stop and a decent length to her muzzle to give the desired ratio, lovely tidy well set ears, dark enough expressive eyes and clean tight lips with a good underjaw. A short strong neck flowing into correct shoulders she has a clean straight and well boned front of good width, showing forechest and in profile can see a good sweep of her underline, brisket correct to the elbow flowing back into a light loin, front and rear angulation good and a good width to her well-defined rear quarters. A level topline stacked and in motion, she moved with ease out and back with drive from the rear at correct pace, just all in a day’s work for this team. Well-presented and handled and had no hesitation at all in awarding her Best Bitch but in the BIS challenge I had to give to the dog who pipped her on fitness and ring presence on the day. Overall, 2 outstanding exhibits I was fortunate enough to be able to assess 

2. Dringshaws Girl On Fire (Smith, Mr K & Mrs E) 23.03.23

Red and White bitch top size bitch with white feet of 3 years. Good strength to her head with good skull to muzzle ratio, tidy ears dark eye and clean in lip. Clean front with strong shoulders and enough bone, though notably up on the leg to my first place , moved ok and handled well , she was keen and alert throughout the class which scored her over the lower places, on the day most definitely the fittest in the class, but preferred the balance and movement of my first place 

3. Kahamaia Circle Of Fire (Preston, Miss EA) 27.10.22

Class 20 OB (1,0)

1. Dringshaw Danse Du Feu (Waltham, Mr S & Mrs K) 23.03.23

Red and white topsize bitch of 3 years with white socks and litter sister to my 2nd in Limit as expected having many of the same virtues. Exceptional fitness and a very lively one to stand out in class regardless of being stood alone. Her head is one of good width and depth and clean with a cracking underjaw, tidy ears and dark eye and a very mischievous expression. She has ample bone for size and a clean straight front of enough width. Good front and rear angulation with a good topline. She was certainly enjoying her day in class with 4 feet on the floor being optional at times but moved well and “controlled” well, thanks for bringing her. 

Class 21 VB (2,1)

1. Hatson Getting Away With It (Liversidge, Mr P) 02.06.18 BVB / BVIS

Black Brindle Bitch just days short of 8 years. Very much standard and feminine with strength for size with balance. A pleasing strong but feminine head on her of good proportions, dark eye and tidy enough ears, good underjaw with correct length to the muzzle. Good width to her front with enough bone, good front and rear angulation, ribs well sprung, correctly coupled with good definition to her rear quarters, she is obviously still putting some good walks in as she was in a good state of fitness and as a general comment a happy one through class. Good topline stacked and on movement which she went well out and back. In the final challenge she won over the dog on my preference of size and balance but 2 lovely veterans and thank you for bringing them along for the day out.
