I would like to thank Claire and her committee for the invitation to judge this absolute banger of a show. One of my favourite Open Shows in the show calendar, it is well the exhibitors for your entries. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, and I have to say, the quality of the exhibits shown under me were from the top drawer in a lot of the breeds. Thank you Jo for your brilliant stewarding skills, and for keeping the ring in order and moving along smoothly. It was a long day, but very enjoyable. Thank you all for staying for the Groups.

Puppy (3,1)
1st Wallace’s Amblelight Meadow Orchid, Spaniel (Welsh Springer) lovely type of bitch, just shy of 11 months old. She owns a lovely, typey head, with good eye shape, colour and lovely expression. Overall, she is well balanced, standing on good bone and of good height. Good shoulder placement, with good forechest and maturing nicely in the brisket. Just needs to mature in the body now. Good strong quarters, nice turn of stifle which she used well on the move. Best AVNSC Gundog Puppy.
2nd Wynne-Evans’ Droveborough One Love, English Setter. This blue belton girl has a lot to like about her. I felt she lacked the maturity of my winner, and her front and rear were all over the place at the moment. At only 10 months old, she justs needs to mature and tighten up throughout.
Yearling (6,1)
1st Sainsbury’s Elskerwood Cloudy Skies, Spaniel (Clumber) and absolutely loved this girl. Of a very good type, and her head very typical for the breed. She stood on excellent bone, with good feet and straight front. Good forechest. Excellent length of neck, which was strong, onto well laid shoulders. This girl was of a good height and was correct in length good strong quarters well let down. Moved very soundly fore and aft with good action. One to watch for the future. Reserve Best AVNSC Gundog.
2nd Beasley’s Latjeata Jack’s The Lad, English Setter, male whom I loved. Good type and stood presents a good setter picture. Lovely head, with good eye colour and shape. Such a soft expression. He has good bone throughout; I just preferred the shoulders of my winner. Good body and chest, he also has good strong quarters, with a good turn of stifle. Moved well.
3rd Thacker’s Peritye Follow The Sun, English Setter
Limit (5,0)
1st Corcoran & Jones’ Oakmarsh Kinglsey Adsila, Retriever (Chesapeake Bay), wow, this girl oozes quality. Super type, the most gorgeous of heads with correct eye shape and colour with a melting expression. Well off for bone throughout, good straight front, good depth of chest, nicely balanced throughout, used her strong quarters to move out soundly fore and aft. Once fully mature, I think this girl will look fabulous.
2nd Beasley’s Latjeata Cup of Kindness, English Setter. Of a very nice type, this blue belton bitch just lacked the maturity of my winner all through. Standing presents a very typical picture for the breed, lovely in head, with good eye shape, colour and expression. Stood on good bone, nice straight front, nicely balanced throughout. Moved well.
3rd Appleton’s Perrorizado Escombreras, Spanish Water Dog
Open (3,0)
1st Barkley’s Jacranella Galahad of Cherryheath (AI) JW, Spaniel (Welsh Springer), male of good size and shape. He has a lovely head type, which is balanced. His eye is of good shape and colour and he has a lovely, soft expression. Well boned throughout he has a good strong front, with good forechest. Excellent feet shape, padded nicely throughout. He has a good shoulder placement, with good return of upper arm. He is well bodied, with a good deep chest, good spring of rib and loin nicely arched and strong. Not overdone in the quarters, he is well muscled and used this to his advantage on the move. Very sound fore and aft. Best AVNSC Gundog.
2nd Thoroghgood’s Anbrook Don’t Stop Me Now at Harriefield, Spaniel (Clumber), Nice sized male of 6 years old. He is of a nice style and type, and he seemed to enjoy his day out. I would have liked to have seen a little less haw around the eye and his feet were not his fortune. It is always nice to watch a dog and his owner in unison though.
3rd Appleton’s Valentismo’s De Cascada, Spanish Water Dog.

1st Sladden’s Khyannes Villette at Canemamans ShCEx (Imp Hun), Braque D’Auvergne, b/w girl of super type. I fell in loved with this one. Such a classic head with super eye shape, colour and an expression to die for. She is nicely boned throughout, with good, straight front, good forechest, good width of chest, excellent lay back of shoulder, with super return of upper arm. She is of good balance throughout her body, nice deep chest, good ribcage, super level topline, and strong throughout. She has strong quarters, nicely let down stifle with good width and well-muscled. She didn’t like the indoor surface, but once the handler had gotten her settled down, she used her powerful quarters to drive her around the ring. Very sound fore and aft. I was so impressed with her, I awarded her Gundog Group 3 in a very strong, quality Group.

Yearling (2,0)
1 st Bryant’s Laurelhach Lotus With Muckypups, at first glance, this girl exhibits a classic silhouette for the breed. She possesses a lovely head, complemented by a well-shaped eye, pleasing colour, and an expressive look. She displays good bone throughout, a straight front, and a well-developed forechest. Her shoulders are well placed, and her mid-section currently lacks depth and spring of rib, which should improve with maturity. Her quarters are nicely angulated and well-muscled. She moved out on a good stride and showed sound movement both fore and aft. Pleased to award her BOB.
2nd Flanagan’s Kewstoke Sea Biscuit not quite the shape of my winner, but owns a lovely head with good eye shape and colour. Good neck and shoulders. Not quite the shape in body as my winner, and needs to settle down somewhat.
Limit (2,1)
1st Thomas’ Chartan Little Black Dress 2 year old girl who owns a lovely head piece, so very typical for the breed. Nicely boned throughout. Nice straight front, good in shoulder placement, does need to mature in the body. Good quarters, nice turn of stifle, with plenty of width. Moved out well. Very well turned out. Reserve BOB.
Open (1,0)
1st Thomas’ Chartan Maple Mayhem a very masculine boy who wasn’t quite on par as my Yearling winner. This boy certainly moved out ok using his strong quarters, but his front end I would have liked to have seen more neck and a better shoulder placement, and that is just my opinion.

1st Welch, Drake & Hazeltine;s Corotine Noir Blossom with Hookwood loved this b/w bitch for her type. Such a lovely feminine head, which was well balanced. Lovely dark hazel coloured eye with a kind expression. Good length of neck which is long and slightly arched. Stood on good bone, has a straight front, nice tight feet, plenty of heart room in her chest. Nicely bodied, with a good spring of rib. Hindquarters were strong, well-turned stifle and muscled. She moved out very smoothly covering the ground well. BP
2nd Upton-Lovett & Upton’s Heartbury Endless Love with Roydack upstanding boy, who again presents a very symmetrical outline. For me, I just found him slightly stronger in head and I would have preferred a darker eye. But he has good bone and feet, good strong, straight front. He has a good length of neck, which is strong and he has a good shoulder placement. Mature in body for his age, he has a strong topline, which he held well on the move. I just felt his movement wasn’t as smooth, and he didn’t like the surface indoors.

Well-toned and muscled, this showed on the move. A very free moving, sound dog, fore and aft. Res BOB
2nd Bell’s Curleycrest’s Sweet Home Chicago (Imp NOR) JW another very nice typey male who ticks all the right boxes. Older and more mature than by winner, there was very little to choose between 1st and 2nd. That is a huge compliment, as my winner is from the top drawer, as is this young man.
