An honour to judge this show at the invitation of West of England cocker spaniel club. Thank you to all exhibitors for a lovely entry. Also, my stewards Ian and Susan Hillier, did a sterling job, keeping me informed and on time, very efficient.

1. Robertson, Mrs B, - Annaside Reflection of Kastrian.

8-month-old black female. Of good breed type she has an appealing head, correct shaped dark eyes kind expression. Moderate neck into good laid shoulder. Ample spring of rib. Well-rounded hindquarters short hocks and nice angles front and rear. Good reach and drive, holding her topline firm. Presented well. A little timid today as a puppy, but she has time for her confidence will grow.

1. Pop, Miss J K - Merrysoul Everybody’s Talking at Bocablue.

I judged this gold male last year as a puppy and liked him then and he just gets better. A very pleasing outline, full of type, well balanced and quality throughout. He has the most appealing head, masculine, square muzzle distinct stop and skull cleanly chiselled. Correct dentation. Eyes tight correct shape, dark showing intelligence and the gentle expression of the cocker spaniel. Ears set correct on level with his eyes. Good reach of neck, muscular set into well laid shoulders. Forequarters straight well off for bone, thick tight feet. Ample spring of rib and depth of brisket. Loin short and broad. Hindquarters rounded angulated and muscular. Strong hocks good drive and balance and return of upper arm. Topline level firm and tail carriage correctly set, giving a smooth outline on the move. Could complete a day’s work in a heartbeat. RBIS.

2. Ward’s - Whinburn Walk the Moon to Wensum JW

21-month black dog of good type, sturdy square outline with balance and good angles. Kind expression, dark eyes tight rims and correct shape. Well off for bone, deep forechest, and well sprung ribs, short wide loin. Good bend of stifle. Moved well around the ring, holding a firm level topline and correct tail carriage. Preferred the head, and length of neck of 1.

1. Masters & Dott’s F- Fellini of Vie Magnifique At Manchela (IMP HUN)

10-Month-old liver roan dog. Mature for his age this dog is well put together. Nice head skull well developed, cleanly chiselled. lovely colour and correct shaped dark hazel eyes which harmonise his coat. Moderate muscular neck well laid shoulders. Deep chest and wide brisket, firm topline correct tail carriage. Good bend of stifle and tight neat catlike feet. He moved out with power and good reach and drive, expertly in tune with his handler. 2. Kotanen’s- Yokotia Whack a Duck

9-month’s blue roan female. Lovely head and expression of intelligence, dark eyes. Square muzzle nose sufficiently wide for scenting. Shorter in neck than 1, but a puppy and still developing. Good bone, chest and brisket deep. Loin wide and level topline. She moved well when settled, and with time to develop this is a lovely promising puppy.

6-year-old mature light blue female who stood alone in her class. Pleasing head, gentle expression overall good shape. Nice coat. A merry cocker, on the move striding out with ever wagging tail for her handler. Moved well.

1.Whitehead’s- Crowmere Candy Floss

7-month’s blue roan lots to like about this puppy. Balanced honest type and feminine throughout. Pleasing head soft gentle expression with dark eyes, tight rims correct shape. Good length of neck muscular and set neatly into well placed shoulders. Straight front well boned, and deep chest. Good spring of rib. Firm topline and short loin, round and muscular quarters with a good bend of stifle, straight hocks. Moved with drive and good reach covering the ground. Lovely short square puppy, I am sure a promising future awaits and happy to award her BMPIS

2.Pop’s- Manaca’s Had You At Hello For Bocablue

8-month’s blue roan good type. Short and square balanced outline. Adorable gentle expression with dark eye showing intelligence. Well set ears. Moderate neck muscular set into good lay of shoulder. Ample forechest, straight legs. good spring of rib. Level topline well angulated hindquarters and nice straight hocks. Unsettled on the move to 1 but showing promise. These two puppies are full of breed type and will sure to exchange places.

1. Craig’s - Riondel Amadeus at Alisma

Blue Roan dog 13-months. Full of type, this boy took command of the ring. Super head, dark eyes with tight rims, correct shape giving a melting expression but still masculine. Cleanly chiselled. Muscular neck with good layback of shoulder. Straight front well boned. Excellent return of upper arm. Good feet. Deep chest and brisket. Good spring of rib and a short loin. Great muscular hindquarters correct rear angulation. Good tail set and carriage. Lots of substance on him throughout. His movement is textbook, covering the ground with purpose, showing good reach and drive, maintaining a level topline. Could easily retrieve and carry birds all day long. Super example of our breed, happy to award him BIS.

2. Stangroom’s- Riondel Artemis into Lappakia

13-month’s female litter sibling to 1. Balanced cocker dark eye. correct shape. Smaller muzzle. Neck muscular set into well set shoulders she has a good forechest straight legs, nice tight feet. Rib well sprung and deep in brisket. Slightly longer in cast than 1 with firm topline. Moved freely presented well.

SPECIAL YEARLING (3 1)

1. Pop’s- Merry Donatella Verace with Bocablue

22-month’s female, black, in beautiful coat and condition. Most appealing head. Dark eyes with melting expression that just gets you. Moderate length of neck muscular set into good lay of shoulders. Well boned. Straight front she has depth and an excellent spring of rib. Short loin, muscular hindquarters straight hocks. True to type with good balance square and neat angulation. Moved off with good drive and reach. level topline. Displaying typical carriage with a merry disposition. Very sweet girl.

2. Cox & Dewhurst, Mrs S V & Miss H- Ryallcourt Charm of Unique to Suvern (AI) 

20-month-old male B/w ticked very cockery. A lovely head masculine but not overdone. Gentle eye and expression. Moderate neck in good lay of shoulder. Well boned legs, stood straight on tight feet. Muscular shoulders chest well developed and deep brisket. Rib well sprung. Presented in good coat and condition. Moved out well with good drive.

Placed 1st in this class down to balance and type on the move showing good reach and drive. (2nd junior)

2. Smith, Miss E - Mundusmeus Out of Reach

2-year-old Black and tan female small outline presented in good coat. Pleasing head, dark eyes gentle expression, wider in skull than 1. Stood square short loin wide and firm would have preferred more angulation. Moved out well in partnership with her handler.

Good front, and well boned chest deep and ribs well sprung. Hindquarters well rounded good angulation moved ok. Preferred the drive and reach of 1.

5-year-old gold male. Pleasing eye, square muzzle in a lovely masculine head. Good length of neck and decent shoulders. Firm topline and short coupled. Good muscle tone. Presented out in nice coat. prefer the angulation of 1. Moving well once settled but testing his handler today.

1. Gray’s - Purdyspride Rave on JW

2-year-old blue roan male. Good Head with soft expression and gentle dark eyes. Square muzzle, nose sufficiently wide. Skull well developed and cleanly chiselled. His body is square compact, ribs well sprung. Hindquarters well rounded and muscular with good bend of stifle and well let down hocks, allowing for plenty of drive. On the move would prefer more width in hind movement.

6-year-old male gold, presented in good condition. Lovely masculine head with a kind expression. Dark eyes and tight rims. Ears set correct. Good reach of neck sitting on good shoulders Width to front is good, but the upper arm could be better. Deep brisket muscular loin. A very happy merry boy on the move.

1. Kotanen’s - Yokotia Queen of Chaos JW

This sweet 2-year blue roan bitch was presented immaculately and in beautiful coat and condition. She has a super feminine, nicely chiselled head with an alert but gentle dark eye. A slightly longer neck than my winner but flowing down into well laid shoulders. She has a lovely compact body with a well-developed chest and good spring of rib. I particularly liked her curvy rear end and her strong muscular hindquarters. She stood on good firm feet and moved out well with drive, maintaining a good level top line, particularly out and back, accompanied by a super merry tail. Pushed up hard for top honours.
