I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of The Dachshund Club for their invite to judge Long and Mini Long at their 2026 Open Show. Having grown up with Mini Long and now owning Longs it was an honour to be invited and a huge thank you to all exhibitors who entered and took my decisions with good humour and grace; thank you also to my stewards who kept things moving in the ring. I was delighted to see my Long and Mini Long Puppies taking the Best Puppy and Reserve Best Puppy in Show awards respectively.  

DACHSUND (LONG HAIRED)

Class 13 Puppy Dog (3,2,1)

1st Rodriques’ SUJARAH DARE TO DREAM Promising young male with a super outgoing attitude; Balanced in profile with good proportions; plenty of substance. Well shaped hear, lovely dark eye set obliquely, correct ears, strong muzzle. Good front assembly, sufficient forechest, good feet; ribs are ok, strong loin giving correct topline, nicely angled rear, well muscled second thig, in lovely coat and condition. Excelled on the move, parallel out and back and covering the ground well in profile. RBD, BPIB

Class 14 Junior Dog (2,0,2)

1st Garlick’s RANGLEWOOD CHRISTMAS STAR S/R, Smaller in type but still balanced; pleasing head with correct proportions and lovely dark eye, correct ears, good length of neck into well placed shoulder, nice tight elbows. Ribs going well back and in lovely muscular condition, tail set correctly, well angled rear with hocks well let down he moves out well with sufficient drive, lovely in profile.

2nd Partridge’s RANGLEWOOD XMAS CRACKER TO RIVEROYAL B/T, heavier in type than 1 he is a substantial dog but carrying a little weight. Masculine head; good eyes and ear, strong muzzle. Sufficient forechest and good feet; ribs extended back, correct angulation at rear. When settled he moves well out and back and just lost out to his littermate.

Class 15 Post Graduate Dog (2,1,1)

1st O’Neill’s RANGLEWOOD PHOENIX AT DONNADACH B/T male, balanced in profile; pleasing head with correct proportions, nice reach of neck into good shoulder, prominent forechest, ribs extending back and strong muscular loin; nice topline. Muscular at rear hocks well let down. Moves parallel out and back and covers the ground well in profile with lovely head and tail carriage.

Class 16 Limit Dog (4,1,3)

1st Lacey’s ABYDEZI SHADES OF GLORY Mature S/R male, masculine and presents a nice balanced outline with good proportions. Masculine head of correct shape and good planes; lovely dark eye and ear and good strong muzzle. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulder, prominent sternum and good feet. Ribs ok and loin is strong and muscular. In good coat and condition, moved ok. BD

2nd O’Neill’s RANGLEWOOD FINLAGGAN AT DONNADACH Mature male, good size with a pleasing head of good shape. Good reach of neck, prominent forechest, good bone and feet, rear ok. Moves ok, could do with a little more drive.

1st Garlick’s RANGLEWOOD HARVEST SONG 9-year-old B/T male, in lovely condition for his age. Pleasing head, good front and rear assembly, good ribs and strong loin, he was loving his day out and moved well , a credit to his owner. BVIB

Class 19 Puppy Bitch (2,0,2)

1st Whitfield-Roberts’ SWANSFORD OPHELIADORA Promising youngster, B/T with great attitude in the ring. Pretty head, correct shape, nicely put together front with prominent forechest, nice tight elbows and good feet. Ribs extending back and correct topline she has a lot of maturing to do but moves well, parallel out and back and good outline in profile.

2nd Rodrigues’ SUJARAH DAYDREAM BELIEVER Another lovely youngster; unfortunate to meet 1. Prettiest of head; lovely eye and correct ear. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder, she is well made throughout but still a bit raw and a lot of maturing to do. Good rear angulation; not quite the drive of 1 on the move.

Class 20 Junior Bitch (1,1,0)

Class 21 Post Graduate Bitch (2,0,2)

1st Partridge’s PETTIGANS VIVA LA VIDA BY RIVEROYAL JW Feminine bitch, balanced. Pleasing head of good proportions. Nicely arched neck into well placed shoulder, good elbows. Ribs ok, good topline, slight rise over the loin. Nicely angled at rear. In good coat and condition, moves well, covering the ground.

2nd Heap’s RANGLEWOOD KATRINE Feminine head of correct shape; good forequarters with sufficient bone and good feet. In muscular condition, ribs ok, level topline. Moves with sufficient reach and drive, giving her owner quite the runaround today which is a shame.

Class 22 Limit Bitch (3,0,3)

1st Garlick’s KYRENIA QUEENS REQUEST WITH RANGLEWOOD Nicely balanced bitch, lovely head of good shape, correct eye giving lovely expression. Nice strong neck arched and good shoulder with prominent forechest; good elbows. Nice spring of rib and strong loin giving good topline. Nicely angled at rear. Lovely coat and condition and moved parallel out and back and in profile with lovely head carriage. RBB

2nd Lacey’s ABYDACHS RENEGADE ANGELA AT ABYDEZI Another nice bitch, heavier set throughout. Good head, nice eye. Front is ok but carries a bit of weight over the shoulder, ribs ok. Nicely angled rear and moves well covering the ground with plenty of reach and drive.

3rd Negus‘ TARRAMIST STARLIGHT (AI)

Class 23 Open Bitch (3,0,3)

1st Garlick’s RANGLEWOOD ANDROMEDA Caught my eye when she came into the ring; super feminine, balanced and with lovely attitude. Lovely head, nice eye and expression. Good neck into clean shoulder and prominent forechest, good spring of rib, strong loin and good rear angulation. In lovely muscular condition, good coat and really motored round the ring. BB, BOB

2nd Negus’ TARRAMIST PLATINUM ARIA (AI) Feminine head of correct shape; prominent forechest, would prefer a better return of upper arm. Good ribs; strong loin giving correct topline. Moved and handled well.

1st Whitfield Roberts’ DANDYDAYO COWBOY AND KISSES A lot to like about this youngster; balanced in profile; lovely head, good eye and expression; correct ears. Good forequarters, prominent forechest, good feet, ribs ok and nice level topline, good rear; hocks nicely let down. Moves with plenty of drive and attitude. RBD & BPIB

2nd Poole’s FINDOWRIE THE FIELD MARSHAL Promising youngster, masculine head of correct shape, ribs ok and nice level topline, moves well covering the ground well with plenty of attitude. Unlucky to meet 1.

Class 26 Junior Dog (2,0,2)

1st Gunter’s SANMIK CAPTAIN AT WELINGTONWAY Masculine dog, balanced with pleasing head of correct shape, good neck and forechest, nicely angled front and rear; strong loin with level topline which he keeps on the move. Moved and handled well with nice head carriage.

2nd Turton’s CORNWALLDAX RED MAPLE AT DAMORADAXIES Pleasing head and express, good neck, front is ok. Would prefer better ribbing and loin as he lost out to 1 on his lack of body and condition. Moves ok, handled well.

Class 27 Post Graduate Dog (2,0,2)

1st Fairchild’s RESTINIM MR PIP Balanced in profile, masculine head, good neck into well placed shoulder; sufficient forechest, well bodied and level topline which he carried on the move; covering the ground well with nice attitude and head carriage.

2nd Turton’s CORNWALLDAX MIDNIGHT STAR AT DAMORADAXIES Pleasing head, good forequarters, ribs ok, good rear angulation. Would prefer a better tailset. Not very settled today which was unfortunate.

Class 28 Limit Dog (1,0,1)

1st Brown’s DOLYHARP ROSSINI AT GARBOSA Lovely proportions, balanced and masculine without being overdone. Super head, good eye and expression, correct ears. Nice forequarters, prominent forechest, good ribs and strong loin giving a nice topline which is kept on the move, good rear quarters, nicely defined second thigh. He has substance and condition which showed in his movement, covering the ground well and with lovely head carriage. BD & BOB

1st Phillips’ SUMMERVIEW LUCY LOCKET Promising young bitch; B/T, nicely balanced profile; pleasing head of correct shape, good reach of neck into well placed shoulder; prominent forechest and good feet. Ribs extending back and nicely bodied for age. Good, angulated rear, hocks well let down and parallel. Excels on the move; parallel out and back and lovely profile; keeping topline on the move. 

2nd Poole’s FINDOWRIE FORGET ME NOT Not quite the substance of my winner but a balanced and feminine bitch throughout. Nice feminine head; good eye and expression. Well made throughout, good forechest. She really covers the ground on the move with lovely head carriage and topline.

3rd Gunter’s WELINGTONWAY MISS MISCHIEF

Class 32 Junior Bitch (5,1,4)

1st Dare’s DARSOMS ZYGRETA Feminine all through; balanced and in proportion. Pleasing head, arched neck into good shoulder. Nice front assembly with prominent forechest, ribs ok and strong loin which gives her a good topline and nice underline. Won the class on movement, parallel out and back and really covering the ground in profile with good head and tail carriage.

2nd Fairchild’s FINDOWRIE FIELD OF DREAMS AND RESTINIM Promising youngster, feminine head and good reach of neck, well made fore and aft with good angulation, moves well but still a lot of developing to do.

3rd Holtom’s CHERITONDAX PINOT GRIGO FOR RIVANDELL

Class 33 Post Graduate Bitch (6,1,5)

1st Dare’s DARSOMS ZYLEAH Balanced feminine bitch; good head shape, eye and expression. Arched neck into well placed shoulder with good forechest, good ribs, strong loin giving correct topline and moves well with sufficient reach and drive. RBB

2nd Aneke’s DACHADAM HOPES AND DREAMS Another nice bitch, feminine head, good reach of neck, ok front, ribs extending back, strong loin and moves well. Just not the front assembly of one.

3rd Fairchild’s SANMIK PREACHER’S CREAM FRO RESTINIM

Class 34 Limit Bitch (3,1,2)

1st Holtom’s RIVANDELL OSHA Mature bitch presenting a good balanced profile; feminine head, good proportions. Nice front assembly and good ribs, strong loin and a good topline. Rear angulation is good with hocks well let down and parallel. Moved well with nice head and tail carriage; covers the ground.

2nd Cox’s DOLYHARP GRACE KELLY AT CHERITONDAX JW Lighter framed than winner and with more leg; pleasing head with nice dark eye and good pigment. Good front assembly, ribs and loin. On the move she is a bit close behind today and not quite the reach and drive of the winner.

Class 35 Open Bitch (3,1,2)

1st Poole’s FINDOWRIE ELANA ROSE Super balanced bitch, good proportions and a good size. Feminine head she has a good neck, arched and strong into a well-placed shoulder. She has a good forechest and ribs with a nice spring, strong loin giving her a nice level topline and good underline. Rear angulation is good; hocks parallel. Moves well out and back and in profile keeping her topline. Good coat and condition. BB

2nd Dare’s LARKHUND CELTIC ROSE DARSOMS Another nice bitch; again, balanced and a good size. Pleasing head and good neck and shoulder, ribs are ok nice level topline, rear angles are good; hocks well let down and parallel. Moves well I just preferred the overall picture of 1.

Class 36 Veteran Bitch ( 1,0,1)

1st Holtom’s RALINES CAMEO AT RIVANDELL Mature bitch, 10 years of age and a credit to her owner. Lovely balanced profile; a good size. Nice head, eye and ear, nice length of neck, good for and aft and still carrying a good topline, enjoyed her day out moving out and back well, parallel and in profile. BVIB
