CHOW CHOW Only 1 class for this breed today and only 2 entered, one of which was a 6-month-old puppy.

O D/B (3,1)

1. McCallum’s Ch Falecea Gogo Yubari Burlesk Jw. 1. A lovely fully mature bitch. Viewed side-on when stood on the table her overall outline is excellent and fore and aft angulations are very good. Her head proportions are breed typical and she has enough stop; eye shape is good; ear size, shape and set are as they should be; neck has enough arch; topline is good, strong and her back is level; depth of chest to height at withers ratio is correct; shape and position of rear feet are textbook for this breed. Tail set is good and well carried. Movement in all directions is good, and she has the much-desired rear action of this breed. Quality through and through. BOB (Note: delighted to see her get Group 2)

2. MColl’s Jamarhys Prince 2. Only 6 months old but already showing some promise. Side-on, his general outline is good, but his top line needs to strengthen, and I feel sure this will happen as he matures. He is quite compactly built; his skull is a good shape for his age with enough stop; eyes are a good shape and pigmentation is good throughout. Forequarters are good but hindquarters need to develop a tad more. His feet are beautifully round; he is still wearing his puppy coat, so it is not easy to gauge final coat texture. Front action is good, but he is lacking maturity. Time will be his good friend, and I would like a chance to see him again once he is a little older. BP

JAPANESE SPITZ

Although only 2 in this class and they are litter mates, they were quite different in type. There was much to like about both of them and a few things I felt could be a tad better, so it was quite difficult to choose my class winner.

O D/B (2)

1. Gibson’s Ch Kaiaki Angel Eyes Jw 1. Very typical 2 years-old bitch; oozing quality. Her pigmentation is good. Side-on her proportions are as they should be; her back is straight; tail set is good although I prefer a tad more length. Viewed from the front, she has a typical spitz-type head with enough stop. Movement is good, going round the ring; There is nothing overdone on this bitch. BOB (I was pleased to see she was shortlisted in the group)

2. Gibson’s Kaiaki Star Attraction. So different to my class winner but she still has many, breed-positive points. Like my 1st placing, she is pure white and her pigmentation is excellent. Overall, she is slightly larger than her litter sister, but her proportions are excellent. Again, her head is wedge shaped; ears are small and triangular; her neck is moderate in length and sufficiently arched. On the move, her rear action is good with enough drive, and she has good reach when viewed side-on. Today, I prefer her litter mate.

I was really pleased to get such a wonderful entry; such a lovely breed. They are a joy to judge.

Puppy D/B (2)

1. Schuckardt’s Frenchlands Polar Star BP. A delightful 11-month-old bitch of superb quality for her age. She is well balanced when stacked and she looks balanced on the move. She has the sweetest puppy head with a good shape of skull of correct proportions; eyes are dark; ears are well shaped; angulation fore and aft is really good and she moves very well for one so young. I wish her well in the future. BP. BPIS (Congratulations on BPIS)

2. Hastings’ Chic Choix Tiny Jewels Diamond Gala Naf Taf. Another super puppy bitch; she is 9 months old but, in some ways, seems more mature than the class winner. She is of a slightly different type to my 1st place, but lovely, nonetheless. Her proportions throughout are very good; she has an excellent front assembly; hindquarters could be a little more angulated, but I think time and maturity will be her friend. She still needs to settle, and I think she will be one to watch.

1. Logan’s Spyanki Noah NutherBot Jw. 18- month-old male having many breed-positive points; he is well balanced, quite sturdily built but not fully mature yet. His front construction is very good, and his head is quite breed typical; movement is good in all directions.

2. Hastings’ Sifrason Powers That Be Donloemar. Similar in age to my class winner; his outline is good when viewed side-on and his topline is excellent; tail set is quite good. When moving his rear action is very good and his hind quarters are well angulated. Front action is not as strong as his rear movement today. I feel, like my class winner, he is not fully mature and it would be super to see him in about a year’s time.

3. Schuckardt’s Frenchlands Midnight Star

OD(2,1)

1. Logan’s Spyanki Eobard Thawne Jw Shcex Osw. Super male; incredibly well constructed; he is well balanced and looks every inch a male. Head proportions are good; pigmentation is excellent; ear set and carriage are good; his neck is strong and shoulder placement is good; front and rear assembly are good; his tail is correctly set and well carried. To be ultra picky, I would perhaps like him a little less square. Overall, a beautiful dog. BOB (Delighted to see he got G3)

1. Logan’s Spyanki Excessive Kisses Jw. Lovely 3.5-year-old bitch with much to like about her. She is sturdily built with quite a good outline; her head and expression are breed-typical; her overall proportions are good although I would prefer a tiny bit more length in body; tail set is good as is carriage; topline is strong and level. Front and rear assembly are good. She is quite a good mover. BOS

2. Schuckardt’s Ch Kutani Black Opal At Frenchlands Jw. Another super girl. At 5-years-old she is fully mature. Her expression as well as her overall construction is very feminine. Viewed side-on, her proportions are quite good but on occasion she stood a little too square. As with my class winner, her tail is correctly high set. Movement in all directions is strong.
