The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Open Show 18th July 2026

Many thanks to the SGHC committee for inviting me to judge their open show and for their hospitality on the day. A particular mention must go to Naomi for taking care of me so well all day, and to her and David for being my very able stewards. I would like a huge thank you to go to the many exhibitors, who trusted me to judge their beautiful dogs. I was delighted and humbled to have such a large entry with excellent quality dogs, many of which I would have been happy to award top honours. Unfortunately, the sun came out and after their long morning at the Hound show, some dogs suffered from the heat and had to pay the price in such tough competition.

Puppy Dog. (3) 1. Littlechild, Mr G & Mrs S. Allievo Faa Ig Rashuqa. I loved the shape of this young b/s boy. Lovely balance both standing and on the move. Good shoulder and rear angulation. Lovely head and eye and great length of neck. Good depth of rib. Moved very soundly with reach and drive.

2. Ayrton, Ms J S. Allievo Faa Ig Raa”I”ah. Very nice cream boy, heavier all round than 1 at the moment . Well balanced with good front and rear angles. Great depth of rib, good topline. Moved well. Just preferred the longer leg to back length of 1 at the moment, but at this age, puppies change almost daily.

3. Stilva, Mrs L. Kenbloom Mango Ascent . Very nice red of similar age to 1 and 2, but more immature. A moderate red with balanced angulation. Good topline, lovely head and eye. Moved soundly. Just needs to mature and drop in ribcage.

Junior Dog. (2,1) 1. Kenbloom Mango Ascent .

. Yearling Dog. (4,2) 1. Ince, Mrs L. Artilily Wilde. Nicely shaped b/t. Good, moderate angulation. Correct length of neck into well laid shoulders. Nice head, great depth of chest, good width in front. Moved well with balance, reach and drive.

2. Ulyatt, Dr M A . Yamadan KN Aljaz Haalim(Imp USA) Fawn youngster with a nice head and eye, good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Good depth of rib and good cut-up. Correct pasterns. Needs to drop in stifle.

Graduate Dog (2,1) 1. McLatchie, Mrs G. Artilily Hemingway. Lovely shaped b/t. Beautifully balanced. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Correct return of upper arm and well matched hind angulation. Good depth of chest and cut-up. Moved with balance, smooth and flowing with reach and drive.

PGD (2). So close between these two very nice red dogs. 1. Strong, Mr M & Mrs J. Xerxes Omar Ter Dolen (Imp Bel) A lovely shaped boy with good balance stood and when moving. Correct moderate angulation, which he used well on the move with reach and drive, light and lifting. Good depth of chest, good topline, well muscled with slight rise over the loin. Lovely head and eye.

2. Reynolds & Black, Miss I & Mr L. Browenha's Eastern Promise Another lovely shaped boy, who I have done well for previously and who has similar attributes to 1. Good, balanced angulation, good topline with correct rise over the loin into gently sloping pelvis. Good depth of chest. Well muscled. Slightly finer than 1, who I felt just had the edge on movement today. Could change places on another day.

Limit Dog. (4,2) 1. Phillips, Miss L. Luachmar Javan A lovely Bl/grizzle boy. Super shape. Excellent balance standing and on the move. Good depth of rib and cut-up, strong topline,slightly arched over the loin. Well muscled, correct width in front. Lovely head and eye. Good length of leg, moderate angulation, giving him light flowing movement with reach and drive. Very nice. Pity to come up against such strong competition in the challenge.

2. Schafer, Mrs A. Tin Soldier Nice grizzle boy. Good topline with slight rise over the loin. Correct fallaway, good rear angles. Lovely head and eye. Not quite the balance of 1 on the move.

Open Dog. (4,1) 1. Aldous & Glaister, Ms L & Mrs J. CH Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (Imp Jpn)JW. Beautifully balanced cream boy both standing and moving. Correct topline, rising slightly over the loin, gently sloping pelvis and low set tail. Long neck into well set back shoulders. Good depth and width of ribcage. Well muscled. A sound and balanced mover showing grace and symmetry, light and lifting with reach and drive. I was delighted to award him Best Dog and BOS. 

2. Thomas, Mr D & Mrs M. Bel/Lux CH Sincerity Kalimantan Cashar (Imp Fin) JW. A very nice bl/grizzle young boy. Very attractive. Moderate angulation. Good depth of rib and good cut-up. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Moved soundly with reach and drive.

3. Ward, Mrs L. Caryna Manantena at Backtor. A nicely shaped fawn. Well muscled, great depth of rib, good cut-up. Lovely head and eye, long neck, good layback of shoulder, moderate angulation. He looked a picture standing, but unfortunately lost his shape on the move and lacked the balance of 1 and 2.

Veteran Dog (6,2) Some lovely dogs in this class. It was so difficult to choose between them. 1. Strong, Mr M & Mrs J. CH Shahzad Zaki Ter Dolen (Imp Bel) . A lovely red boy. Lovely head and eye, long neck into well laid shoulder . Good topline, correct length of loin, well muscled, slightly arched over the loin. Good depth of chest and correct width in front. Correct, moderate angulation fore and aft. A beautifully balanced saluki. Won on his movement, light and lifting with reach and drive.

2. Chippendale, Mrs O. Int/Lux/Bel/Fr CH Imhotep Rears Natural Jasmine (Imp Bel). This lovely cream boy is very similar in type and shape as 1 and with similar attributes. Correct balanced, moderate angulation, great depth of chest, good topline, well muscled. A quality hound. Good, sound movement with reach and drive, but just felt 1. had the edge on the day with his light, lifting movement.

3. Quadling, Miss N. CH Classicus Alron With Malenkhai. Another quality saluki. A beautifully balanced and graceful grizzle boy with a lovely shape. Good topline, correct angulation fore and aft. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Lovely head and eye. Moved soundly with reach and drive. Finer throughout than 1 & 2 and not so well muscled. 

4. De Souza, De Souza & Woodgate, Mrs C, Miss L & Mrs H. Caryna Taivoa

Sp Beg Dog. (2,1) Tin Soldier

Champion Dog. (3) Another super quality class. 1. Harding and Cowley, Mrs C E & Miss N. CH Classicus Odysseus At Ashahni. A beautifully balanced , well muscled bl/grizzle. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Good, balanced, moderate angulation fore and aft, good topline, muscles slightly arched over good length of loin. Good depth and width of chest. Good feet and slightly sloping pasterns. He looked proud, strong and elegant in the ring and moved soundly with power, grace, reach and drive. I was delighted to award him RBD.

2. Chippendale, Mrs O. CH Flytesfield Hyddwn. I loved the shape of this lovely red dog. A little finer throughout than 1, but everything in the right place. Beautiful head and eye, long neck into well laid shoulder, good topline. Balanced , moderate angulation, good pasterns and feet. A sound, elegant,graceful, quality saluki. Moved soundly with reach and drive, but perhaps one that the long day and heat had affected, as he didn't put his all into his movement.

3. Hudson, Dr J A & Mrs E J. CH Mala's Amal Johari Dayim Mahatma Glenoak (Imp Deu). A very sound, balanced cream boy. Lovely head and eye, long neck into well laid shoulder. Great depth of chest, good width in front. Well muscled. Balanced angulation, less moderate than 1 & 2. Moved soundly with reach and drive. Just preferred the topline of 1 and 2.

Puppy Bitch (2,1) Ayrton, Ms J S. AllievoFaa Ig Rajiyyah. My notes say “such a sweet red grizzle girl” A lovely head and eye. Lovely in outline. Good balance, moderate angulation fore and aft. Good depth of rib for one so young. Moved soundly like a veteran showgirl, with reach and drive. I was delighted to award her BPIS.

Yearling Bitch (2) Hamilton, Ms N. Artilily Bronte A very nice, pretty grizzle bitch. Well balanced . Good length of neck into well laid back shoulder, correct return of upper arm. Good topline. Moved soundly with great balance, reach and drive, light and lifting. 

2. Panover, Mrs S. Gul-WArin Al Naqawa [ATC BC61338Deu]. A Very attractive b/t girl. A lovely shape. Correct, moderate angulation fore and aft, long neck into well-laid shoulders, good topline. Just didn't move as well as 1 on the day. Perhaps another feeling the heat?

PGB (4,1) I loved all three of these girls. Very little separated them and could change places on another day. 1. Williams, Mr C M & Mrs H V Safeera Kasaque Al Djiibaajah (Imp Deu) A lovely feminine cream bitch with a lovely shape. Perfectly balanced, correct moderate angulation, good topline . Good depth and width of ribcage. Moved with balance, light and lifting with reach and drive. A very elegant girl. 

2. Phillips, Miss L. Luachmar Jala. A stunning b/t. Lovely head and eye, long neck into well-laid shoulders. Correct, balanced , moderate angulation , good depth of chest. Looked a picture when standing. Moved soundly with reach and drive. 1 just had the edge on movement today.

3. Dugdale, Mrs P. Gayledale Typhoon of Hera. A lovely cream/parti. With the same attributes as 1 & 2. A beautifully balanced, moderate, sound bitch. Good body and well muscled. Feminine and elegant. She moved well when she put her mind to it, but unfortunately I think a bitch in season had been before her, so she had her nose to the floor . Pity.

Limit Bitch. (4) 1. Warner & Hetherington, Ms N & Mr B. Savuka Shakira A very sound, pretty fawn bitch. Well balanced, correct, moderate angulation. Good topline, well muscled with slight rise over the loin, gently sloping pelvis with low set-on tail. Good depth of rib and cut-up. Moved soundly with reach and drive, light and lifting.

2. Dugdale, Mrs G. Gayledale Typhoon of Artemis. A very attractive young red girl, finer throughout than 1. Beautiful head and eye. A lovely shape. Long neck into well laid shoulder, good topline, balanced, moderate angulation. She moved beautifully, light and lifting with reach and drive. Her movement is hard to beat. She is very appealing, but needs to body up and mature. 

3. Davies, Mrs H & Mr J. Zafaraniyeh Dashte Margo. A very attractive b/t . Lovely shape when standing. Moderate angulation , good topline , well muscled with gentle rise over the loin. Good depth and width of chest. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Unfortunately, she did herself no favours on moving .

4. Davies, Mrs H & Mr J. Zafaraniyeh Dashte Kavir. 

Open Bitch (4,1) Phillips, Miss L. CH Luachmar Jamilah ShCEx A lovely bl/grizzle. Lovely head and eye . Long neck into well laid shoulders, good topline arching slightly over the loin. Well balanced, correct, moderate angulation. Good length of leg, low set hocks. Great depth of chest and good cut-up. A lovely shape when standing and on the move. Moved soundly with reach and drive, light and lifting. A quality bitch, who I considered in the challenge.

2. Everton, Mr D R & Mrs P M. Savuka Rashiqah With Kasra. A pretty fawn girl. Beautiful head and eye. Balanced, correct , moderate angulation. Good depth of ribcage and good cut-up. Good topline. Very graceful. Moved soundly.

3. Ince, Mrs L. Indianna Byrlince. Nicely shaped bl/grizzle. Good depth and width of chest, good topline, gentle rise over the loin, well bent stifle, good length of leg. Well muscled. Nice head and eye. Moved soundly. 

Veteran Bitch (6) A lovely class of quality bitches. So difficult to choose between them. 

1. Ayrton, Ms J S. CH Chisobee Faa Ig Farraar of Allievo . A beautiful, feminine bl/tri bitch I have done well for previously. She is beautifully balanced with long neck into well-laid shoulders, balanced angulation fore and rear. She has good in-fill of chest, straight forelegs with slightly sloping pasterns, good topline with slight rise over the loin and low tail set from gently sloping pelvis. Great depth of chest and good tuck-up. Well muscled, elegant and graceful. With a beautiful head and eye and correctly set ears with long feathering. She moved soundly and with balance, with reach and drive and light, lifting action. I was delighted to award her RBB and RBIS.

2. Woolmer, MRCVS, Dr O. Al Nafiseh Flowering Sage. A new one on me. Such a pretty cream bitch. Beautifully put together. Well balanced angulation fore and aft, long neck into well laid shoulders. Good topline with gentle rise over the loin. Great depth of rib and good cut-up. Good in-fill in front. Well muscled. A lovely shape. She moved beautifully with great balance and elegance with reach and drive, light and lifting. A lovely quality bitch.

3. Hamilton, Ms N CH/INT/LUX/BEL/Ch Alishamar Roxane JW ShCEx OSW (Imp Bel) Another lovely bitch of quality. A grizzle with a super shape. Moderate, balanced angulation, long neck into well laid shoulders, good topline with slight rise over the loin and gently sloping pelvis. Good front and deep chest. Very pretty head and correct eye. Well muscled. She moved soundly with reach and drive, light and lifting. She just didn't have the sparkle of 1 & 2 on the day.

Champion Bitch. (3,2) 1. Woolmer & Velickaite, Dr O & Dr V J. CH Al Nefiseh Ivory Pearl [ATCBA63590RUS] I was impressed with this beautiful cream girl as she entered the ring and was not disappointed on judging her. She is so graceful and elegant, whilst giving the impression of great strength. A super outline, totally balanced. A beautiful head and eye, long neck, good laid back shoulder, good topline, long gently sloping pelvis and low tail set. She has great balance, return of upper arm and bend of stifle. Good depth of chest and cut-up. Well muscled. She kept her lovely balance and shape on the move with her smooth, effortless, light flowing movement with correct reach and drive. I was delighted award her Best Bitch and BIS.

Jonathan Langley Horsewell Rescue Stakes Bitch. (2,1) I was informed on the day that the Rescue Stakes classes ar not for dogs that have been rescued, but that the costs of entry are paid over to rescue societies. It is therefore a pity that more dogs were not entered.

1. Zafaraniyeh Dashte Margo. It' a pity that she didn't move as well in the Limit Bitch class.

Brace (5,4) 1. Miss L Phillips . Grizzle brace. A lovely brother and sister pair I did well for in their respective classes. Very similar in type, colour and conformation. The owner should be very proud of such a lovely litter.
