Many thanks to Taunton for inviting me to judge at their show, and to my great steward who kept the ring running smoothly. 

Dachshund (Long-Haired) 

Graduate (4,1)

1 Partridge’s Ranglewood Xmas Cracker to Riveroyal. 18 month old male with a nice outline and proportions. He had a good conical head with that desired slight arch to his skull. Long, arched neck and decent breast bone and ribs. Slight rise over the loin. Balanced angles and good feet. Moved well around the ring with purpose and carriage. RBOB

2 Cooper & Hendren’s Bronia Leonardo. 10 month old male who appealed for type. Decent head and good eye and ears. Shorter neck than 1. Liked his proportions but felt he was carrying a touch too much weight today. Good movement and was certainly enjoying his day out showing off that lively character. BP

1 Partridge’s Pettigans Viva La Vida by Riveroyal JW. 2.5 year old bitch who was super feminine. Conical head with good head planes and rounded ears. Good length of neck and strong breast bone. Liked her proportions and depth of ribs. Moved well and particularly liked her front movement. Not carrying quite as much coat as the boys in the previous class but still more than enough to show the desired texture. BOB

Dachshund (Miniature Long-Haired)

1 Stevens’ Crownlake Dream Weaver On Sidburyhill. 8 month old bitch. Very pretty puppy with a good head and feminine expression and almond shaped eyes. Would like a slightly longer neck. Good proportions and showed plenty of ground clearance. Good feet. Moved well. RBOB & BP & HPG 4.

2 Turton’s Cornwalldaxs Midnight Star at Damoradaxies. 2.5 year old dog with a super attitude. Lovely masculine head with well rounded ears. Good neck and front. Solid topline with a slight rise over loin, leading to a well set tail. Moved well.

1 Bater’s All for Show. 2 year old male with a regal attitude about him. Good head planes to this dog and well set ears. Decent length of neck and well angled front. He moved well and kept his topline at all times. Presented in great coat. BOB

2 Stevens’ Urishay Ambrosia by Sidburyhill. 4 year old bitch with a very sweet demeanour. Very feminine head but would prefer a slightly more balanced head. Well rounded ears. Shorter neck than 1. Good proportions to her and she moved well. 

Dachshund (Smooth Haired)

1 Small’s Clentry Walking in Memphis. 6.5 month elegant bitch who I liked very much as soon as I saw her enter the ring. She had a lovely head with strong jaw. Well set and rounded ears of good length. Super length of neck leading to a strong topline. Decent front and prominent breast bone. Lovely proportions and carried herself very well showing free movement with drive. The open winner pushed her very hard for BOB but I personally preferred her outline so she took the top spot. BP & BOB & HPG 3. 

2 Somerton’s Jaxinorydax Gossip Gal. 7.5 month bitch showing a super character. Different in type to 1. Good head although would prefer a better eye. Another with a good neck length and breast bone. Good front and rear assembly although more moderate than 1. Feet could be better. Liked her proportions.

1 Rycroft’s Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah at Trisensara JW ShCEx OSW. 4 year old male with one of the best temperaments of the day. Liked his masculine head and length of neck. Super front and rear. Really liked how much ground clearance he had but still had good depth of rib. Rock solid topline with a good tail set. Moved true. Can certainly appreciate his quality but had to give way to the puppy today. RBOB and RBOB in Show. 

2 Rycroft’s Chidax Sahara Sand by Trisensara JW. 2.5 year old bitch. Very feminine with a good head although would prefer a slightly shorter muzzle. Decent neck length. Prominent breast bone. Ideally would like a better upper arm. Good proportions and well muscled.

1 Somerton’s Midlandbull’s Willow at Jaxinorydax TAF. Coming up 5 year old bitch. Decent head proportions but would prefer a more gradual stop into her muzzle. Ok length of neck and ok front. Good proportions. Short loin. Moved well. BOB.

2 Poulier’s Auradach Alfred The Great. 8 year old male who certainly didn’t look his age. Good head but would prefer more underjaw. Good proportions. Would prefer more angles to both front and rear but he moved well. A sweet veteran! RBOB.

1 Pughe & Fraser’s Stanegate Sonja. 14 month old bitch who oozes quality. Beautiful feminine head with lovely ears. Strong jaw. Wonderful length of neck leading to a solid topline which she kept at all times. Good front with elbows close to body but still allowing her to show free movement. Liked her length of rib and tail set. Used her strong and well angulated rear on the move. Presented is a very good coat with correct texture. BOB and so pleased to see her win the group later in the day. 

2 Parker’s Vixendax Tornado. 16 month old dog. Very masculine dog and different in type to 1. Nice head and length of neck. Ok front but would prefer better feet. Nice proportions and good topline. Well angulated rear. Moved well. Coat ok.

1 Effer’s Greyhayne Hector. Coming up to 8 year old male. He had a lovely shape, starting with a good head and lovely ears. Decent in front and rear which he used well on the move. Liked his overall proportions but preferred the overall shape of the Graduate winner. RBOB.

1 Coles’ Rozamie Reputation. 14 month old bitch who is so feminine all through. Lovely head and well set ears. Nice length of neck leading to an ok front. Good ground clearance whilst still showing she had depth to her ribs. Good topline. Would prefer a little more angle to her rear. Moved well and coat presented in great condition. What a lovely rapport she had with her handler too. BOB.

1 Howgate & Hull’s Palmik Raincheck. What an elegant young male this 10 month old is. Masculine head with lovely rose shaped ears and dark, expressive eyes. Long, muscular neck leading to a good front. Deep brisket and good tuck up with short loin. Nicely angulated rear which he used on the move once settled. Liked his feet. Sure there’s some fun to be had with this one. BPD & BPIB. 

Graduate Dog (7,3)

1 Bayley’s Wolfscastle Mr Luva Luva at Hengilfach. 14 month old male who stood over good ground. Liked his head and expression. Good front but would prefer a slightly better layback of shoulder to be critical. Lovely feet. Brisket deep and good tuck up. Well muscled back showing a graceful arch. He moved well with his handler. Liked him a lot. 

2 Howgate & Hull’s Palmik Raincheck. PD winner.

1 Bayley’s Wolfscastle Mr Luva Luva at Hengilfach. GD winner. 

2 Sharp’s Saintharp Can’t Get Enough. 2 year old male with good proportions. Lovely head and ears. Good length and elegance of neck leading to a good front. Another with good feet. Graceful arch over the loin. Would prefer a little more depth to brisket. Moved well. 

Open Dog (4,1)

1 Foxwell’s Cobyco Capture The Look at Redfoxia JW. 19 month who really appealed for type and shape. Wonderful masculine head with a flat skull and rose shaped ears, although perhaps could be fractionally smaller. Good length of neck. Deep brisket and good tuck up. Slight rise over the loin leading to a nice tail set. Lovely rear angles which he used so well to cover the ground on the move. One I will follow. BD & RBOB.

2 Graffham’s Cleeton We Go Together at Firesprite. 2 year old male. Nice masculine head on this boy and good length of neck. He is more moderate all through compared to 1. Would prefer more angles to his front. Good feet. 

Puppy Bitch (7,3)

1 Howgate & Hull’s Palmik Raindrop. I just loved this 10 month old bitch, litter sister to the PD winner. Much of the same comments apply. She is so feminine and has a ‘look at me’ attitude. Still plenty of maturing to do but everything is there. In the BP challenge she was too focused on trying to catch her brother so had to give way to him today, but they could easily be changing places. BPB.

2 Sharp’s Saintharp All in Good Time. Another nice puppy coming up to 12 months. She is slightly bigger than 1 but still retains femininity. Lovely head with ears she used very well. Great length of neck leading to a good front. Good depth of rib for age. Lovely topline. Good feet. Well angulated rear. She was a touch untidy on the move when coming towards but moved well in profile. Liked her a lot, was just unlucky to come up against 1 today. 

Graduate Bitch (5,2)

1 Howgate & Hull’s Palmik Raindrop. PB winner. 

2 Durante’s Duranridge Chic Shadow. 2 year old bitch. Loved her type and she stood over good ground with good bone. Nice head and length of neck. Would prefer a a better upper arm and fraction more depth to brisket. Good tuck up and rise over the loin. Moved well. 

Limit Bitch (2,1)

1 Cockwell’s Shelsue Tullibardine. Coming up 4 year old bitch. She was a good size and stood over good ground. Nice head and ears. Good length of neck leading to an ok front, just a bit straight for me. Another with good feet. Deep brisket and good tuck up. Short, muscular loin. Well angulated rear which she used on the move.

1 Woodward’s Tervanty Magic Dragon JW. 2 year old bitch who is so feminine. Perfect for size and oh so elegant all over. Gorgeous head showing off the breeds expressive eyes. Good ears. Best neck and front of the day. Deep brisket with good tuck up, and a short and powerful loin. Stood over good ground and showed that daisy cutting action the breed is known for. Perfectly muscled. BOB & HG2. 

2 Sharp’s Chippwhipp Georgie Porgy. 4 year old feminine bitch. Liked her shape very much. Lovely head and length of neck. Another with a good front and great feet. Deep brisket. Slightly flatter over the loin than 1 but still desirable. A nice girl who moved well. Unlucky to meet 1 today.
