Boston & District Canine Society

Thank you to Boston & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge Best in Show at their Open Show. It is always a privilege to be invited to judge such an appointment, particularly at a well-run and welcoming show. I was presented with a number of quality exhibits, but what impressed me most was the depth of quality in the puppy line-up, which certainly bodes well for the future.

Best in Show went to the Pomeranian, Ch Sueacres Catch A Dream, a quality male who immediately caught my eye with his overall balance and breed type. He presented a beautiful picture on the stack, with a foxy head and expression, small ears carried perfectly erect, and a short, well-arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. He has straight forelegs, a compact body with a short back, fine bone, neat cat-like feet and a correctly set tail carried flat over his back. His coat was of excellent texture and condition, and on the move he was free, sound and true, covering the ground with ease. 

Reserve Best in Show went to the Basset Hound Nelgus Golden Nugget, this dog continually drew my attention throughout the line-up and I could not deny his construction. He has a pleasing head with the correct slight dome, a long, well-arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, short forelegs with the correct wrap-around front and prominent breastbone. His body is of correct proportions with a firm, level topline, balanced angulation and excellent substance while maintaining good ground clearance. 

Best Puppy In Show went to the Portuguese Water Dog Rarjo The Cross of Macduff, I had the pleasure of judging this young bitch at Blackpool a few weeks back and my comments still apply. She is such a showgirl with tremendous presence for her age. She has a large head and skull, a short, straight neck carried proudly, straight forelegs with upright pasterns and balanced body proportions. She moved with a light, effortless stride, an exciting youngster with a bright future ahead of her.

Reserve Best Puppy In Show went to the Irish Setter Glitterati Lofty with Quensha (Imp Pol), a beautifully made youngster with an elegant head and lovely expression. She has a long neck leading into well-laid shoulders, straight forelegs and an excellent front assembly, she is well balanced throughout with a firm topline and moved with drive and a true action. Another very promising puppy.

Best Veteran In Show was the Basenji Ch/Ir Ch Swanwite Take A Chance On Me ShCEx Cw25 VW, a quality red and white male., he has the correct head proportions with dark eyes and small, pointed, erect ears, a good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, straight forelegs, level topline and high-set, tightly curled tail. He covered the ground with long effortless strides.

Reserve Best Veteran In Show was the Irish Red and White Setter Sh Ch Alanea Game Reserve with Danwish, a well-balanced male with pleasing head and body proportions. He has a deep chest, good substance and a firm outline, and moved with a long, effortless stride.
