English Setter Association Memorial Class Critique 5th July 2026

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at their show and the exhibitors for their entries. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to go over your dogs.

The Patricia Gardiner-Swann Special Memorial Award Junior (7,1abs)

1st Lawson’s Summerseve Cezanne, 12-month-old, Tri Dog. This dog caught my eye with his overall balance both when standing and in movement. Super head with a dark and expressive eye. Good spring of rib and well bodied for age. Lovely tight feet. Excellent front and rear angulation. Straight front and elbows close to the body. Precise, free mover, covering the ring with ease. I look forward to following his progress.

2nd Thacker’s Peritye Follow the Sun, 17-month-old, Orange Dog. Lovely head and expression with a long neck leading into excellent front angulation. Slightly longer in loin than 1. Lovely rear angulation with well bent stifles allowed him to glide round the ring. He doesn’t have quite the finished picture and overall balance of 1, just needs time to mature.

3rd Tucker’s Walshaw Star Struck

The Jack Bowen MBE Special Memorial Award Open (11,4bs)

1st Derry, Schoneville and Williamson’s Hawklawn Hazzard County at Balvenie JW 2-year-old, Tri Dog. I have judged this dog before when he was younger and he has continued to mature well. Masculine dog, built on a larger frame but still very balanced over all and well off for bone. He has a lovely head and dark eyes. Excellent front and rear angulations with well sprung ribs. He moved round the ring with grace and plenty of drive, holding his head high and slashing his tail.

2nd Hingley’s Wansleydale Bee Quick, 2-year-old, Tri Dog. Another dog with many qualities. Super head with a well-defined stop and soft expression. Good angulation fore and aft. He moved round the ring with drive, holding a level top line. Shown in excellent coat and condition.
