Thank you for the invitation to judge at this friendly show and to my steward for keeping the ring in good order. I was very well looked after by the Secretary and Show Manager. Thank you to all exhibitors for bringing your dogs under me, especially given the hot weather. 

DALMATIANS

My focus was for steady and economical movement as well as breed type. I had intended to move the dogs a little less than I usually would (due to the heat) but had such lovely movement across my classes and wanted to see everyone move again before making final choices for BOB.

JUNIOR (1,0)

1. NEWTON’S SALVADORADA LIGHT IT UP FOR CHIZZMIC- 14M/O Liver Btch- Well marked with deepest rich liver pigment. Really liked her pretty face and lovely dark eye. Broad flat skull, and ears carried well. Plenty of bone in strong straight legs. Good lay of shoulder, spring of rib and ribs carried well back. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh. Understand she wasn’t with her usual handler today and a little giddy at first, however once settled, she moved well with excellent reach and drive and covered the ground with ease. Interested to watch her mature.

POST GRADUATE (2,1)

1. LEAK’S TAMILANDA CONTINENTAL ICON- 6 Y/O Black Dog- Plenty to like about this boy with nothing overstated. Broad flat skull, dark eye and ears carried well. Elegant neck into well-defined withers. Good lay of shoulder, good spring of rib and ribs carried well back. Moderate angulation. Excellent muscle tone in rear and obviously well-exercised and fit for function. He moved out straight and true, tracking up correctly with a nice topline, good head and tail carriage and a free and easy action. Shown beautifully on a loose lead and completely at one with his handler. RBOB and just pipped to BOB by the Open B.

OPEN DOG (3,1)

1. NEWTON’S WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET PASSIONATE ABOUT YOU FOR CHIZZMIC JW (IMP BEL) 3 Y/O Black Dog- Deep rich pigment with bold spotting on a bright white background. A very masculine and a stronger head type, with a broad flat skull, ears carried well to frame a dark eye. Good lay of shoulder and good strong round bone. Slightly longer cast than others here today. Good muscle tone throughout. Moderate angulation. He showed excellent reach and drive and kept a level topline with a excellent tail carriage. Cut a lovely picture in profile. 

2. FOXALL’S COTTERSPOT SWALEDALE DUKE- 5Y/O Black Dog- liked this boys proportions and preferred his length of loin. Rich dark bold spotting. Broad flat skull, sparkling dark eye. Elegant neck into well-defined withers. Good lay of shoulder, spring of rib and ribs carried well back. Moderate angulation. He initially made hard work for his handler, but once settled he moved out well, showing excellent reach and tracking up well. 

OPEN BITCH (3,0)

A difficult class of lovely girls

1. FOSTER’S PERDITA’S TOMORROWLAND JW SHCEX OSW- 5 Y/O black bitch. Eye catching with rich and well-distributed spotting. Broad flat skull with dark eye, ears carried well to frame a pretty and feminine face. Elegant neck leading to well defined withers. A nice amount of substance to her, round bone on strong straight legs. Excellent fore-chest and deep brisket. Strong level topline and firm across the loin. Well-muscled rear with excellent second thigh. Moderate angulation and well balanced. Great reach and drive. Nothing flashy or overdone on the move, just sound, economical and steady in all directions and tracking up correctly. Couldn’t be denied BOB and pleased to see her take Group 4 in a strong group. 

2. WILLISON’S COTTERSPOT COTTERDALE LADY - 5 Y/O Liver bitch – Judged fairly recently and my comments still apply. A finer, more obviously feminine type but hands find all muscle underneath. Richest liver spotting and a pretty, elegant head. Excellent front assembly and depth of brisket. Strong loin. Correct tail set and carriage. Steady and economical movement covering the ground with ease, using the well-toned muscle of her hindquarters to really drive. Beautifully handled on a loose lead. Close up to 1.
