Dalmatians and Poodles

Thank you for the invitation to judge at this lovely show, I was warmly welcomed and well-looked after by the committee. A lower entry due to a group clash with a champ show but I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment. Thank you to all exhibitors for bringing your dogs under me. 

DALMATIANS

My focus was for steady and economical movement. I had a lovely large ring which I made of use to really get the dogs moving.

POST GRADUATE (2,0)

1. CLAESEN’S DALSTORM JUST JIVING- 3 YO Black Dog- One I have judged before and he is improving with age. Not much I can say that I haven’t said before, he is up for size but all in proportion and well balanced. Broad flat masculine skull, nice dark eye and a soft expression. Well defined withers and good lay of shoulder, strong round bone. Tight cat feet. Level back and firm strong loin. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh and well-defined strong hocks. Moderate angulation. Today his movement was steady and true around the ring and he covered the ground with a free and easy action and plenty of reach and drive. Well-handled to show him at his best. BOB.

2. KINCH’S SPOTAMOUR’S MOONSTONE- 2 YO Black Dog- handsome dog with plenty to like. Super dark pigmentation, well distributed, clean spotting. Broad flat skull, pleasing dark eye, used his ears well to frame his face. Nice, elegant neck and well-defined withers. Deep and capacious chest. Nice strong loin. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh and moderate angulation. A few moments where his movement could have been a little tidier but overall he showed excellent reach and drive. Understand this pairing are fairly new to the hobby, keep going as I see a lot of potential here.

1. BARNETT’S SALVADORADA HAPPY GO LUCKY-3YO Black Bitch- really like the overall size and proportions of her. Elegant feminine head with a super dark eye and sweet expression. Ears carried well to frame her face. Super forechest, strong straight legs with enough bone leading to tight cat feet. Deep and capacious chest with well sprung ribs and plenty of heart and lung room. Well-muscled rear with an excellent second thigh and in a fit condition. She moved out true, with a powerful stride and has excellent drive. Much like her name, a very happy show girl working so well for her handler. Splitting hairs for BOB but preferred head carriage of the PG dog in profile today, happy to award RBOB.

2.TYSTERMAN’S CARODAL JACOBS LADDER ShCEx- 5YO Liver bitch, another lovely size and type. Beautiful head, feminine with a dark eye and well carried ears. Lovely soft expression. Elegant neck leading into well-defined withers, good front with good bone. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Moderate angulation. Well-set tail and carried well. Fluid on the move and kept her topline, she moved out true and showed excellent reach and drive, just not quite the muscle tone of 1 today.

JUNIOR (1,1)

1. MANN AND HARVEY’S CHARABECCA LEVI’S LUCKIEST- 1 Y/O Black Dog. Shown with harsh coat in a neat trim. Liked his head, nicely chiselled face, dark eye, good chin and correct ear set. Deep chest. Good length of back and good turn of stifle. Moved straight on the out and back and tracked up well when settled. A tendency to get a little giddy and over excited on the move, could maybe benefit from being moved a little slower to help him settle. Very promising. RBOB.

1. WALKER’S RAEANNE’S BLACK VELVET JW- 2 Y/O Black Dog. Presented with abundant harsh correct coat in a well-executed trim. Well chiselled face, super dark almond eye, strong chin. Elegant neck, deep chest, ribs well sprung. Nicely muscled, good turn of stifle. Moved well in all directions keeping a nice level back and excellent tail carriage. Moved at the correct pace, which allowed him to really showcase his free and easy movement and excellent drive. BOB and pleased to see him place Utility Group 2. 

STANDARD POODLE

JUNIOR (1,1)

1. KERNICK’S HOPE DREAMS COME TRUE- 1 Y/O Apricot Bitch. Pretty face with a good dark almond eye, good amount of chin, close-fitting lips and correct ear set. Good length of neck and excellent head carriage. Ribs are well sprung, but I would prefer a bit more covering over them. She has good rear angulation and well bent stifles but would like a little more muscle on her thighs. She may just be going through that tricky junior development stage and these things will come with maturity. Moved out straight on the out and back with a free and easy gait. BOB.

TOY POODLE

JUNIOR (3,1)

1. COOPER’S DAKATA MISCHIEF MAKER- 8 M/O Apricot Dog- Dark sparkling almond eyes, a well chiselled foreface and good chin, well framed with correct ears. Ribs well sprung. Deep chest. Well-muscled thighs. Shown in profuse coat in a neat and well executed trim. Moved well with plenty of confidence, tracking up correctly and showing excellent drive. RBOB and BPIB and pleased to see he took PG1.

2. HUNT’S DOLLYCUBE LOVE HEARTS 8 M/O Black Bitch- A smaller-framed and more compact bitch. Nice almond eyes, correctly proportioned head. Good length of neck and lovely short back. Ribs well sprung. Good front and rear angulation allowing her to move with freely and with ease. Not quite the confidence and presence of 1 yet but this may come with time. 

OPEN (2,1)

1. PINE-HAYNES VICMAR GAIEVALS THE GIRL IS MINE- 17M/O Black Bitch- Plenty to like in this girl- Masses of profuse coat of good texture in a well-executed trim. Beautiful head with a well-chiselled face, intelligent sparkling almond eye, well-defined chin and correct ear set. Elegant neck leading to well-defined withers. Deep chest, ribs well sprung. Nice short back. Well-muscled rear, good turn of stifle. She moved out true and tracked up well, showing plenty of drive. Excellent head and tail carriage. Cuts a beautiful picture moving in profile. BOB and later in the day her owner told me after this was the final needed point for her JW. Congratulations and very well deserved!
