Ashfield (Notts) Canine Society
Thank you to the Officeholders and Committee for inviting me to judge a variety of different breeds at this very well-run friendly show. The stewards and helpers were really wonderful. A special thank you to my excellent, efficient steward, Michelle. We had a lovely chat after judging and ‘put the world right’ in our eyes!
PORTUGUESE PODENGO (WARREN HOUND)
OPEN (1)
1. Cross’ Kalispell’s Fonzarelli Loggeta (Imp PRT). A very eye catching smooth Podengo with such a lovely personality and style. I have judged him before and now 18 months old, he is maturing well, developing into the finished product. Super refined well-proportioned wedge-shaped head. Moderate sized dark expressive eyes, with colour to match his body. Large thin triangular well set ears. Strong neck and straight parallel forelegs. Good body, topline and correct ribbing. Nicely muscled hindquarters. Correct feet and tail. His movement was wonderful, considering the state of the ground. Lightly and soundly. Will watch his future with interest. He was rather vocal, but that goes with the breed. Certainly, deserved BEST OF BREED
STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER
PUPPY (3)
Two lovely puppies. Not a lot to choose between them.
1. Parry & Gill’s Saxstaff La Diosa. This red and white pied bitch puppy was a little older and more mature. She was nicely balanced, showing good personality. I felt her well-proportioned, feminine head was more developed. She has the correct medium, dark, round eyes looking ahead. Nice set and size of rose ears. Closer examination of her shoulders was needed as they were correct and well laid back, but the markings did detract. Fore chest developing well. Straight, well-boned fore legs. Correct length of neck to loin with waist. Nicely developing correct shaped body. Well-muscled hindquarters and bent stifles. Tail held correctly. She moved extremely well, freely and powerfully. She fits the standard well and should have a great future. BEST PUPPY.
2. Bassford-Lane’s Waystaff Lets Play Conquers with Jojalane. Nearly 7 months old. This red and white bitch puppy has very similar attributes, but not quite so mature. She has a good head with a distinct stop. Again, initially, the markings may be a bit deceiving, with white on her face. However, she has dark eyes surrounded by dark rims, giving a soft, alert expression. Body developing nicely. Shoulders well placed and neat feet. Very much a young puppy, resulting in me having trouble assessing her movement.
POST GRADUATE (1)
1. Shepherd’s Harlivstaff Captain Coady. What a naughty boy. At 3 years old, he should know better! He has a well-shaped mature head with furrow in the middle of his broad skull and pronounced cheeks. Correct mouth and teeth. Good, fit, muscular body, well sprung ribs and noticeable tuck up. Well-muscled hindquarters. Shown in fit condition and full of character. He is so full of himself that he spoils his outline on the move, by flying his tail too high.
LIMIT (3)
1. Bassford-Lanes’s Jojalane I Drink Wine. The type of Staffordshire Bul Terrier I like. Not 2 years old yet and not quite fully mature, but I thought he was gorgeous. He is very attractive, being red with white chest and white on four of his feet. Presented in excellent condition. He has a strong, mature head, with dark, round eyes and dark mask, showing a super expression. Distinct stop and pronounced cheeks. Good length of neck. Good shoulder placement, straight well boned front legs with good width and drop of brisket. Super level topline, nice spring of rib and good tuck-up in loin. Super hindquarters, hocks well let down and stifles well bent. Well-muscled first and second thighs. He moved like a dream, with great drive and so parallel, covering the ground with ease. Handler and dog were like one. He must have a very bright future. Easily, BEST OF BREED. I was pleased he was shortlisted in a very high-class Terrier Group.
2. Cockeram’s Bullybranch Clever Coal. A nice well balanced red dog with white chest and toes. Not so masculine as above. Good head, furrow in the middle of his skull, and a distinct stop. Shown in good condition. Strong neck, correct shoulders with well boned straight fore legs and a good fore chest. Nice level topline, well sprung ribs, correct tuck up and good hindquarters. Strong pasterns and super feet. Another, who carried his tail too high for me on the move.
OPEN DOG (1)
1. Lloyd’s Kalostaff Es Lo Que Es JW. A well balanced, very nice mature 4-year-old black brindle dog, presented in super condition and coat. Correctly proportioned head, broad skull with ridge and very pronounced cheeks, distinct stop, correct eyes, topped by well-placed rose ears. Strong neck, flowing into good shoulder placement. Well boned straight fore legs with good width of chest and fore chest. Mature body, deep brisket, well sprung ribs, showing waistline and correct tuck up. Very well-muscled hindquarters, hocks well let down and stifles well bent. He moved out well with power. Well-padded neat feet. RESERVE BEST OF BREED. I was pleased he went Best Reserve Best of Breed in Show.

1. Jefferson’s Alport No Surrender. A very nice, mature black brindle bitch, with nice flowing lines. Correctly proportioned feminine head, broad skull, very pronounced cheek muscles. Round, dark eyes looking straight ahead, giving a soft expression, topped off with well-placed rose ears. Excellent mouth with regular and complete scissor bite and teeth of a good size. Correct neck and shoulders. Well boned, straight front legs and depth of chest. An excellent body, well-muscled, with a level topline and noticeable tuck up. Well-muscled hindquarters. Super low set tail carried correctly. Neat feet.
2. Parry & Gill’s Leebee’s Zakiyah at Saxstaff. Quite a different type and style to above. She has a lovely temperament and super colouring of red with white chest and front socks. A well-proportioned head, broad skull, and pronounced cheek muscles. Wide front and good depth of brisket. Level topline with waistline and distinctive tuck up. Well-muscled hindquarters, with hocks well let down. Tail OK. Moved very well, with drive.
BULL TERRIER
Open (1)
1. Villensia’s Kirkville Bushido Villensia. A typical feminine Bull Terrier, presenting herself with a good outline when stood well. A very nice head with the true egg-shape when viewed from the front. However, I would prefer a little more fill for perfection. Lovely narrow obliquely placed triangular eyes. Ears held erect and well positioned. Correct shoulders and straight round boned fore legs. Super fore chest and broad chest. Body well rounded of the correct shape. Deep brisket, with underline forming a graceful upward curve. Short back and well-muscled loins.
Well-muscled hindquarters with stifle joints well bent. I found it difficult to assess her movement but believe it was fine. Well boned and bodied, very well-muscled and fit for purpose. BEST OF BREED.

1. Pilinska’s Ceresbull’s Auri. A 6-month-old puppy with excellent temperament. She has an excellent shaped head. Long, strong and deep. Strong, round boned, straight fore legs. Chest developing well. Well-muscled body. Round, compact feet with well arched toes. Moved OK. Quite a promising puppy. BEST PUPPY.

Straight round boned front legs. Well-muscled and nicely bodied. He moved OK.

Straight strong, roundly boned fore legs. Level backline. Well rounded, muscular body, but I would like just a bit more shape and tuck up. Neat, round and compact feet with well arched toes. Moved well, free and easy. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.
2. Laidler’s Bellalu Bad Habits. This red and white dog has loads of personality and a super companion to his owner. He has good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. His body has good confirmation, well-muscled and boned. Making him quite eye catching. He is verging on being too fast, but he has a good home and is well loved. He moved very well, freely and jauntily.
OPEN (4)
1. Goodwin’s Spitewinter Chatupline. This dog is a very powerful, brindle and white male with a well-muscled body. I felt he was absolutely lovely in every way, as expected from this kennel. Such a shame he did not represent the breed in the Terrier group. Super head of correct shape and size. Lovely triangular eyes and erect ears placed correctly. A shame he did not use them more. He has a super outline. Correct neck, flowing into well laid shoulders. Straight, round boned fore legs and broad chest. Short, strong back with level backline. A lovely regular and complete scissor bite with teeth of good size. Dark eyes and keen expression. Well laid back muscular broad shoulders, correct front legs and chest. He is more mature and has a nicely balanced masculine head with good pigment and pleasing expression. Good width of skull, powerful foreface and defined stop. Round eyes and rose ears. Like his sister, he has a wonderful mouth, which I like in a Terrier. Nice front assembly with well laid-back shoulders and front legs slightly bowed.
