Boston & District Canine Society

Firstly my unlimited thanks to the officers and committee for the invite to judge my first terrier group at their open show. This proceeds the championship show and thus the facilities are absolutely outstanding. This is a committee who should be admired for what they give the exhibitor. A special mention to my capable steward who kept the ring running smoothly on a hot day and never missed a beat

1st Kirkville Bushido Villensia 

Close on 2 year old white bitch who doesn't lack bone or substance. Typical head showing no signs of exaggeration or extremes. She had enough rib, topline level and held on the move. Correct rear angulation. It was a shame she stood alone but shes a quality bitch. Couldn't make a mark in what was an incredibly strong group but sure she'll have many good days ahead. BOB

1st Aribax Firecracker

Bitch of nearly 8 months and looks very promising.... typical head with strength but still show femininity. Best of fronts with a good amount of bone and good forechest. Decent rear angulation. Moved well once she settled. Considered her for BOB but maturity on the day swayed it slightly against her. Also had a good look at her for a place in Puppy group but I run out places in a high quality group. Cracking bitch. BPIB

1st Salvusline Against all odds with Aribax

13 month old dog who is all male, strength and bone by the bucket load. Put down in excellent condition. Best of fronts. Topline ok. Rear angulation good. Moved well once settled. BOB

Fox Terrier (Wire)

1st Travella Stride Out

10 month old dog who doesn't lack class. Appealing head with good length to foreface and dark eye. Good front construction, short backed and developing rear quarters. Moved well. Would prefer a better tail carriage. Handled incredibly well and seemed in full sync with his handler. BOB BPIB. Would find a place in most open show Puppy groups but today missed out by narrow margins.

Watercroft Gee by Golly

7 month old bitch who's movement gave no hint as to her young age. Correctly proportioned head with a femininity about it. Lovely compact bitch who's movement is her fortune. Lovely alert and showy bitch. 

Missed out on best puppy as I was splitting hairs between her and her kennel mate and ultimately the maturity of the dog pipped her.

1st Watercroft Rumour has it

Top quality puppy about who I've written "honest" in my judging book and I think thats a decent assessment, theres no exaggeration and hes incredibly well constructed which all comes together to provide super movement. Lovely proportions to his head and perfect bite, short back and great topline which was held on the move. BPIB and pushed hard in the puppy group and demanded his PG2.

2nd Nordalset Storming in to Ivrig

19 month old bitch who had a decent quality and balance about her. Typical head and good bite. She never really settled to task on the move today and was somewhat erratic. Liked her compact proportions which secured her 2nd in this class.

1st Watercroft Over the Moon

Another Smart bitch who caught my eye early. Alert and on her toes with a typical Terrier attitude, clearly displayed in her wonderful expression. Lovely front construction and the Truest of movement. Compact body with well sprung ribs and a level topline that was held well on the move. Had to be BOB for me and narrowly missed out on the top prize in the Terrier group but was delighted to award her G2 in fabulous company.

2nd Belleville in a word 

3 year old dog who excelled on the move, typical head and decent topline with correct rear angulation and well let down hocks. My preference was for the overall picture and balance of 1st but a nice dog all the same.

1st Watercroft Cosmic Dust

3 year old dog of quality. Typical head with lovely Terrier expression expressing a readiness for work or mischief! Sound front quarters and a good topline with decent spring of rib. Rear quarters showing good definition. 

2nd Watercroft Time after time

20 month old dog. Lovely head with correct proportions, good bite. Good topline and decent rear quarters. Today he decided against showing his movement, as he made his handler work fighting against the lead thus hampering his front movement, sadly this meant he didn't push as hard as he should have.

Baudolin Tobi Terpet for Kyntilly (IMP CZE) 9 month old cesky dog. Typical head, displaying masculinity, front construction ok, rear quarters developing well. Moved ok. BP

1st Renevis Serena of Coppatrota 

A Lakeland bitch who I've judged before who I really like. Her head is A1. Super front construction with well laid shoulders. Rear quarters were, as you'd expect, more developed than when we last met. She was the bridesmaid again today to her older kennel mate but she pushed all the way and I'm sure her day will come. Time is on her side and I suspect the finished article will be a sight to behold.

1st Jodean Tennesse at Coppatrota

Another quality Lakeland who I've also judged before. He's as sound a mover as was here today. Typical head with the desired ratio and a powerful jaw. Well balanced throughout with well muscled quarters. Cracking mover! Best AVNSC Terrier and he earned a hard fought G3 in a really strong group. 

Terrier Group

G1

Otterbobs Indeedido JW. 20 month old Border bitch who you have to have hands on to fully appreciate. Typical border head with a short powerful muzzle housing a correct bite. Front construction a virtue and she is easily spannable with no sign of excess or exaggeration to be found. Correct rear angulation meant on the table it was all there, by golly did it all come together when she moved, sound and true covering the ground with ease. This was a really strong group both numerically and in terms of quality but the class of this young lady made her impossible to deny.

G2 - Was the Norfolk Watercroft Over the Moon, critiqued above.

G3 - Was the Lakeland Jodean Tennesse at Coppatrota, critique above.

G4 - Pacolito Notorious - 9 month old Parson Russell bitch who caught my eye on the first walk around. She Oozes quality from every angle. Correct head ratio with shallow stop and dark eyes. Super front construction, great topline and super quarters. She moved incredibly well. She'll win prizes greater than I had to offer today. G4 and PG1. Super bitch!

9 month old Jack dog who was in my thoughts from the moment he entered the ring. He's a handsome chap and his swagger and ring presence makes sure you know it. Typical head housing large correct bite. Lovely topline held well on the move. Superb rear angulation. 3rd in good company in this group, I'd have taken him home in a heartbeat.

Nice Bedlington bitch who presented a super outline when viewed in profile. Good length to head and great topline. Good jacket for age. Smart bitch.

1st Locheil Stop Right There VW

8 Year old Jack Russell dog whos undeniably masculine. Good head with strong jaw housing a perfect bite and neat ears. Good front construction and a nice balance about him all round. Won a competitive class by virtue of being the best mover. Shame he couldn't stay for the BVIS. 

2nd Chadbrook Enhance the Dance

Smart 7 year old Parson bitch who I liked. Correct head proportions gave a lovely picture, decent front with good topline held on the move. Decent level of fitness for her age. Moved and handled well. 

Puppy (11, 6)

1st Borderrush Bog Bean

6 month old Border bitch who was eyecatching from from the first moment. Head developing nicely, correct bite. Decent front construction, spanable, decent balance about her body, correct rear angulation. Positive and precise movement gave no clue to her young age.

2nd Stowthorney Enter Sandman

Another border, a dog this time and there is an undeniably masculinity about his head. Correct shoulders and decent front construction and a decent overall balance about him. Not the positive movement of 1 and in the end that helped make a close decision.

Hammystaff Love Yourself 

Red and white Stafford bitch. All the ingredients are there and she's really soundly constructed. My personal preference is for less strength in the head but I'm judging against the standard and her head fits the ratios asked for and is clean,strong and her underjaw is to be prized. Behind the collar she excels with plenty of rib and a level topline held well on the move, rear angulation is spot on. She very nearly lost this class as her stafford exuberance made movement hard to assess but when asked to move again her handler got enough from her for me to see she was as sound as her construction suggested. The greater level of fitness that will come as she matures will enhance the picture!

2nd Magicus Silvestris Prins Peter Pan (imp Nor)

A Manchester Terrier dog of 13 months who i think shows real promise. Decent head with tight lips and small dark eye full of spirit. Reasonably long arched neck with correct construction to his narrow front. Reasonable spring of rib. Well muscled and angulated rear. Shown in superb condition.

1st Blazingjacks Best Mate with Jackopeaks

4 year old jack Russell dog of undeniable quality. Lovely head with a keen Terrier expression, strong jaw with correct bite. Well constructed front. His topline both stood and on the move is exceptional and it was one of the factors that won him this class. Well presented and in super condition. 

2nd CH Taraiel Ray of Light for Wellsstaffs 

A bitch of nearly 7 who is absolute class. Best of heads, strong yet femine with correct length of muzzle and good underjaw. Decent front construction with enough width, well sprung ribs and nicely short coupled. Topline level and held well on the move. Well angulated rear. While I can relate to some middle aged spread, she was just carrying a bit too much weight to mount a more sustained challenge to the young Jack. Moved and handled well.
