Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Open Show Critique I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge. It was a privilege and a pleasure, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. My thanks also go to all the exhibitors for their entries and for accepting my decisions so sportingly. I had some quality exhibits, which made the judging both enjoyable and rewarding. Thank you also to the dandies, each of whom greeted me with a wagging tail, and to my ring stewards for their assistance, support, and good company throughout the day. Harriet Buckley Class 1 Minor Puppy 1st Ascott’s Wepwawet Night Owl Lovely pepper youngster with a pleasing head of good proportions, a well-defined stop, and a beautiful liquid eye. Good overall shape and balanced outline, with an excellent coat for age. Still needs a little time to settle and mature in movement as to be expected at this age, but shows promise. Class 2 Puppy Dog 1st Hoskisson & Hinds Fabio z Medunkové Stráne 10-month-old pepper dog with a good coat and well- proportioned head. Well-set ears and round dark eye giving a lovely melting expression. Correct scissor bite. Good length and overall shape, well-set and carried tail. Just needs time to settle and gain confidence on the move. Class 3 Junior Dog 1st Sleight’s Finamour’s King of the Road at Bonnybeck 12-month-old mustard dog in excellent coat and presentation. Good head and stop, with a nice ear set and round, dark well set eyes. Good rear and pleasing overall outline and shape. Class 4 Novice Dog 1st Lenaghan’s Leesam Mr Blue 20-month-old mustard dog in excellent coat. Good head with well-set eyes and ears, strong muzzle and correct scissor bite. Good tail set. Lovely balanced outline and pleasing overall shape. 2nd Palmer’s Diddimont Harry Potter 5-year-old mustard dog with a good head and lovely dark eye. Correct bite and tail set. Balanced outline and good length. Preferred the front of 1. Class 5 Post Graduate Dog 1st Lenaghan’s Leesam Mr Blue See Class 4 critique 2nd Hoskisson & Hinds Lenacourt Laird Rannech 4-year-old pepper dog in excellent coat. Good head and eye, with a lovely topline and overall shape. Preferred tail set and carriage of the first. 3rd Mill’s Lairdship Larger Than Life Class 6 Limit Dog 1st France’s Kiti’s Band Take The Lead To Torbrae An eye- catching pepper dog with lots to like. Excellent breed type. Very well handled and presented. Strong head with good width to skull, dark eye, and strong muzzle. Lovely balanced outline, ribbed up and a good rear. Shown in excellent coat and he moved well. 2nd Baker & Denton’s Cloverwood’s Storm Shadow 3-year-old pepper dog of excellent type, well balanced with a good topline and coat. Good head and dark eye. Good neck into well-laid shoulders, with nice spring of rib. Good tail set and carriage. Pressed hard, but just preferred the head and expression of 1. Class 7 Open Dog 1st Tinsley’s Ch. Cloverwood Happy Daze 2.5-year-old mustard dog of excellent breed type. The best of heads with a deep stop, correct ear set, strong muzzle, correct scissor bite, and dark eye. Lovely for size, topline, and balance. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly with drive from the rear. BD & BIS. 2nd Butcher’s Ch. Mishahda Mischief Managed 5-year-old mustard dog of excellent breed type and quality. He is so soundly constructed, excellent front and rear with a lovely shape and balanced outline. Presented in excellent coat and condition, well handled and moved soundly. Pushed the winner hard as a lot to like about him but I just preferred the head of 1. RBD 3rd Chapman’s Sir Marmaduke Pointdextre Class 8 Veteran Dog 1st Marber’s Maganbar Golden Nugget This lovely 10-year-old pepper dog was shown by his 95-year- old owner. He has a lovely head and dark eye, and both dog and handler were clearly enjoying their day out together. Class 9 Minor Puppy Bitch 1st Davies’s Calmarlin Ophelia 7-month-old quality pepper puppy. Excellent head of correct proportions with a correct scissor bite. Excellent front and rear construction, with lovely tight, well- padded feet and very sound movement. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Lovely tail set and carriage. RBB, BPIS 2nd Haye’s Wepwawet Real Humdinger Seven-month-old mustard puppy. A lovely puppy of excellent breed type. Excellent head with a lovely liquid eye and the desired soft expression. Correct scissor bite. Good topline and tailset. Just needing time to mature. Well presented and handled. Class 10 Puppy Bitch 1st Davies’s Calmarlin Ophelia See class 9 critique 2nd Tinsley’s Cloverwood Wine and Roses Another quality puppy enjoying her day! A lovely character with a happy outlook. Excellent head and expression, with a lovely eye and a soft, melting expression. Correct scissor bite. Good front and rear construction. Good feet. Her adult coat is just beginning to come through. Moved soundly just not quite as settled as 1 on the day. 3rd Hayes’s Wepwawet Real HumdingerClass 13 Post Graduate Bitch 1st Redman’s Puddockswell Little Fig Lovely three-year-old pepper bitch. Excellent head with good stop, well-placed ears, and a lovely round eye with a soft, melting expression. Correct scissor bite. In excellent coat and well handled. Class 14 Limit Bitch 1st Mills’s Lairdship Lickety Split A lovely pepper bitch of excellent breed type. Lovely head with a strong skull, well-placed ears, and a lovely eye giving a melting expression. Correct scissor bite. Good front and rear construction. Correct topline and tail set. Presented in excellent coat and handled well. Class 15 Open Bitch 1st Davies and Kettle’s Ch. Calmarlin Memento Vita JW 2.5 years mustard bitch of excellent breed type. Lovely head with a well-defined stop and a good eye with soft, melting expression. Strong neck, with good front and rear construction and a lovely length of body. Presented in excellent coat and condition and handled well. Pushed hard for Best in Show but on the day was not quite as neat in front as my winner. BB. Class 16 Veteran Bitch 1st Sleight’s Mishahda Where It All Began VW Eight-year-old pepper bitch with a good head and correct scissor bite. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Moved very soundly, holding a balanced outline. Very well handled. 2nd Bainbridge’s Ceilmear’s White Star Beauty Nine-year-old mustard bitch in excellent coat and condition for her age. Good head with a lovely eye and melting expression. Correct scissor bite. Handled well and enjoying her day. 3rd Mills’s Cloverwood Sparkly Shoes
