Judge Mrs J-A Samantha Goldberg

It very much enjoyed judging at the venue even though parched in this drought, thank you to the Society for inviting me and welcoming me-the cakes were excellent! The exhibitors were very sporting and I thank them for their sportsmanlike behaviour both to me and fellow exhibitors in the ring. All hounds had good mouths and were shown in clean condition.

AVNSC Hound

Puppy (2,1)

1st Tress’ Treskha Veuve Clicquot-Norwegian Elkhound. A very bonny wedge head with neat erect ears, dark slightly oval eye and bold attitude. Well curved ribs and strong loin. She moved effortlessly around the ring on tight feet and when she has fully matured should have a lot of fun. BPAVNSC

Junior (3,1)

1st Moore’s Tangaer Jump for Joy-PBGV. An attractive well-balanced dog who carried herself well around the ring. A feminine head with clearly defined stop and strong jaw. Strong neck leading to a well laid shoulder and rib cage extending well back under a level topline. A strong muscular thigh and well angulated hind end that drove her movement.

2nd Osbourne’s Beaujons Sophie avec Braego-PBGV. A heavier overall build than 1st but most attractive head framed by narrow fine ears and well covered with long hair. Deep chested with rounded ribs and body covered with a thick harsh coat. Carried herself well around the ring but not quite the angulation of 1st

3rd Hills’ Rangali Anna with Shimmeree-Basset Fauve de Bretagne

Post Graduate (2)

1st Spring-Arnold’s Hyndsight Changes-Deerhound. Caught my eye when she first went around the ring with an easy, graceful stride. Feminine head with dark eye, neat folded ears and strong jaw. Straight front and well knuckled feet. Well laid shoulder and long rib cage which leads to a strong loin and excellent hind quarters. BAVNSC and short listed in the Group

2nd Moore’s Probert Calypso-PBGV. Atractive head and expression with a dark eye and ears gracefully framing head. Very good profile movement and body well ribbed back. Would prefer a slightly longer tail.

Open (7,4)

1st Osbourne’s Beaujons Wayne Sleep with Braego-PBGV. This exhibit tried his owner with fidgety feet but won the class on his stylish, driving profile movement with a correct topline. Masculine head with intelligent expression leading to a strong neck and well laid shoulder. Fore-chest with definite sternum, rough coat and excellent hind quarters.

RBAVNSC

2nd Ashby’s Regina Alessandra-Pharoah Hound. I loved the outline of this Hound but just felt she could lose a couple of pounds. She has a well chiselled head with definite wedge. Used her ears to advantage when viewed from in front. Straight front and well knuckled feet. Free flowing, ground covering movement with well held topline.

3rd Collier’s Ch Jayanel Alfabeti Spageti

Bassett Hound

Puppy (1)

1st Jones’ Clanwillow Love and Dreams. Masculine clean, head with defined occiput, strong flews and low set framing ears. Eye shape lozenge with tight lids and dark in colour. Well laid shoulder and matching good hind angulation. Clean over the body with just enough wrinkle for the breed. He moved parallel both ways with drive. BP and PG3

Junior (1)

1st McLean’s Lauralee Dreams of Magic at Stookewood. Liked her clean obviously feminine head with strong flews. A determined exhibit who checked the ground for interest all the way around. Good forechest and strong neck. Shoulder well laid and excellent spherical hind quarters. RBOB

Post Graduate (2)

1st Jones’ Clanwillow Kiss the Girl. Two very different exhibits in this class and 1st 1 felt was more likely to stay working in the field. Good head balance with low set ears. Muscular neck and supple skin. Excellent ribcage and round “apple” hindquarters. Moved out well.

2nd Lane’s Goldenessence Deep Impact over Lanebern (Imp Prt). A stronger dog with longer neck and not quite the muscular hindquarters of 1st. He moved out very well around the ring and did cover ground with ease. A bit looser in eye than 1st and felt he didn’t quite have the width of chest in front of 1st.

Open (3)

1st Jones’ Clanwillow Fire and Ice JW. Really liked this exhibit. Clean head and eye with a small amount of wrinkle at the side. Pronounced occiput and strong flews. His coat gleamed and his white areas were a creditable very white. Well laid shoulder and tight elbows, strong boned forelegs leading to padded, knuckled feet. Angulation both ends matched well and he moved around with a strong topline and free action. Pleased to award him BOB and G2

2nd Allchorne’s Nelgus Golden Nugget. This exhibit makes a lovely outline stacked up. He has a strong neck and well laid shoulder with excellent topline and quarters. Unfortunately he wasn’t feeling so confident today and although he moved out well struggled to get his tail well up.

3rd McLean’s Switherland Gabriella at Stookewood

Greyhound

Post Graduate (1,1)

Special Open Racing/Lure Coursing (2)

1st Barber’s Barley Locket. Feminine head with correct dentition, small rose ears and well chiselled. Deep chest leading to a well cut up underline. Shown in lean muscle condition which showed when she moved covering ground well with a slightly arched powerful loin, bringing her hindquarters well under to propel forward. BOB

2nd Prince & Ballentine’s Westview Puddles. Long muscular neck and well muscled body with super deep chest. A set back shoulder and good spring of pasterns to well arched feet. Today not quite the drive of 1st in the heat. RBOB

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Puppy (1,1)

Junior (1,1)

Open (3,2)

1st Collier, Collier, Collier & Cox’s Carlincox Knock Ya Socks Off. Masculine head with defined stop, deep muzzle and high set ear close to the head. Strong neck and sloping shoulder down to compact feet. Ridge correct. Well muscled in body and super outline but not feeling it today and pacing on the move. I gather he is missing his usual handler. BOB

Whippet

Puppy (1)

1st Peek & Hatcher’s Beetelian Remus Lupin. The exhibitor and puppy’s first ever outing and they did a great job. This puppy has a neat head with rose ears and strong underjaw. A muscular neck and yet still feminine. She went forward with good flow of her straight front and parallel both ways.

BP

Junior (3)

1st Searle & Rawlinson’s Majestrian Lavender Haze for Whipsearle (Imp Ita)-An attractive feminine head and strong neck down to ribs with a good depth. Moved out well in profile and straight in front, would like a little more positivity behind.

2nd Hunter’s Katiesue’s Attraction at Salatini. Pretty head with neat rose ears. Muscular neck leading a flowing topline and to excellent hindquarters. Moves well in profile with excellent drive, decent depth of rib and cut up, although pinning a little coming towards me today.

3rd Burton’s Wincarton Ode to Oto

Graduate (3)

1st Thomas Bowdonia Elphaba JW-I liked her for flowing movement from the first go around. An eye catching outline with flow from strong muscular neck along to a great width of thigh. Good depth of chest and straight front. RBOB

2nd Searle & Rawlinson’s Majestrian Lavender Haze for Whipsearle (Imp Ita)-see previous

3rd Trigg’s Rosalie Beth

Post Graduate (2)

1st Skinner’s Whitesquall Mionetto-well proportioned head and muscular neck. Straight front and well let down chest with sharp cut up underline. Well muscled and marked rise over loin. Could carry a pound less but moved with drive and purpose.

Limit (3)

1st Samson’s Zoraden Orange is da New Blue at Romaclove-pretty feminine head with a straight front and good depth of ribcage and cutting up in a curve underneath. Shoulder well laid and curvy topline . Shown well muscled and moved out well.

2nd Thomas’ Bowdonia Sky Full of Stars JW-another with excellent quarters, straight front and well knuckled feet. Moved well but not quite the depth of ribcage of 1st.

3rd Searle & Gonzalez Tirado’s Reffton Elian (ATC B032388ESP)

Open (4)

1st Thomas’ Brochinbelle Ooh La La at Bowdonia-this exhibit stood out in the class for her outline and driving movement. Pretty feminine head, reachy neck and excellent lay back of shoulder, standing over ground on the stack and drawing the eye. She flowed around the ring with excellent angulation both ends and in the Group pulled out the stops to win, never flagging in the heat.

BOB and G1

2nd Searle & Rawlinson’s Reffton Tibalt at Whipsearle JW CW25 (Imp Esp)-another exhibit that I liked with a masculine head and curvy outline on top and underneath. Muscular hind quarters and well let down hocks. He didn’t quite have the enthusiasm of 1st on the move today but a worthy 2nd in this class.

3rd Beagle Webster’s Rossut Vizier for Houndscoast. A very masculine hound with soft expression and clean head. Well off for bone and good spring of rib. Held his profile well on the move, parallel both ways and with strong drive. Correct tail set completing a very pleasing outline as he went around.

4th Smooth Dachshund Taylor’s Bulldaxit’s Armani My Way. A super outline caught my eye on the move with a reachy neck and well laid shoulder, correct proportions of height to ground clearance. Good fill of forechest and front legs wrapping well around ribcage.

Hound Puppy Group

1st Beagle Leader’s Davricard Artemis. What a super balanced puppy of good size, and body condition just right. Pretty head with correct head proportions, defined stop and dark eye. Low set graceful ears and melting expression. Shown in well muscled condition and flowed around the ring, parallel both ways and tail set spot on She is a little cheeky with her owner leaning forward on the stack but delighted to give her PG1 and see her go BPIS3.

2nd Dachshund (Mini Wire) Irshad Shampi De Vale D’Arca (Imp Prt)-Super outline, correct ground clearance with depth of chest and improved in poise as he went through variety classes. Head balance excellent and dark eye with ears dropping to cheeks. Parallel movement both ways and very well muscled thigh.

4th Wire Haired Dachshund Rodwell’s Tendrow Don’t Turn Around. A really good outline and well off for bone in front legs. Balanced head with pronounced eyebrows and beard to the right amount. Good width and depth of forechest and excellent ribcage. Super hind quarters propelled him around the ring.

2nd Whippet Searle & Gonzalez Tirado’s Reffton Elian (ATC B032388ESP).-more settled than in the previous breed class and showed off his good profile on the move and parallel up and back movement. I am sure he will drive more as his confidence grows. Excellent depth of chest and rise over the loin.

Veteran (14,6)-super class of older hounds.

1st Beagle Webster’s Michelroy Pimpernel with Houndscoast JW VW. This exhibit strutted around the ring as if she owned it. Soft feminine expression with a well proportioned head. Reachy neck and well laid shoulder. Shown in good muscled condition which was used well on the move showing off her balanced angulation and level topline.
