GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

Thank you to the Committee for kindly inviting me to judge Golden Retrievers at their well run Open Show. The ring was of good size. I found one golden with incorrect bite. Thank you to my steward who kept things running smoothly. Lastly, a very big thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing your lovely dogs under me and giving me the opportunity of going over them.  

Puppy Dog (1 entry, 0 absent)

1. Ferguson’s SHELBREAGHA HAMCETTA 10 month pale puppy in perfuse coat. He has a lovely balanced masculine head with dark eyes and rims with a pleasing soft expression. Correct scissor bite. Free stood on neat catlike feet. Well off for bone. Would like more angulation to forechest. Good strong hindquarters with straight hocks when stood correctly. Good straight rear action. BPD

1. Bolton’s GOLDMAKER I DREAMED A DREAM AT SHIRESMILL - Pale golden in good coat and condition. Has a lovely masculine head of good proportion. Kindly expression with dark eyes, good pigment. Slightly longer in frame, but well-balanced angulations fore and aft. Deep through the heart. Level topline, straight hocks, moving the best in class. BD

2. McFarlane’s BLUEBRAES GIE IT LALDY – Darker, more compact male, lovely gentle, soft expression. Moderate clean neck flowing into correct lay of shoulder into a level topline. Good length of upper arm. Well sprung ribcage. Good bend of stifle. Moved well.

1. Wallis’ LAMANCHA ROLL ON THE GOOD TIMES – A worthy class winner although stood on his own today. Presented in super condition. He has a broad, strong masculine head with gentle expression. He has a strong, clean, muscular neck flowing into a level topline. Balanced angulation fore and aft, tight-fitting elbows, deep in body and well sprung ribs. Muscular thighs, straight hocks. Moved well, although lacked drive today.

1. Wallis’ BLUE GEMSTONE KATRINA AT CAMELLIS VW – A very happy chap who constantly wagged his tail. A mature mid-gold boy with well chiselled head. Good reach of neck leading into well laid shoulders. Good balanced angulations. Straight front with good length of upper arm. Tight elbows into well sprung ribs. Good width across the hindquarters, strong loin. Moved at ease round ring. 

Puppy Bitch (1 entry, 0 absent)

1. McFarlane’s BLUEBRAES VOYAGER – A sweet 9 month pale golden who oozes character. Balanced angulations, good clean neck onto correct lay of shoulder. Level topline. Lovely side profile action, a little loose, but sure with maturity this will tighten. BPB, BP and PG4.

1. Purdie’s THORNYWAIT BRING ME LUCK – Beautiful feminine rich gold girl in lovely condition. Nothing overdone. Lovely level topline. Good strong hindquarters, standing fore square on straight hocks. Nice straight rear action.  

2. Ferguson’s SHELBREAGHA MACALLEN – Pretty feminine head with kind dark eye and expression. Good clean neck flowing into lay and shoulder and lovely level topline. Straight front, although I’d prefer a little more chest. Nice tight cat like feet. Muscular hindquarters, straight hocks. Nice rear action but lacked the reach of 1.

1. Lochhead’s KAYLATON HEIDI WEISS – I have judged this young lady before. Much of the same applies. Mid gold girl with a sweet feminine head. Lovely reach of neck into correct lay of shoulder. Balanced angulations. Elbows fitting tightly into well sprung ribs. Maintained a level topline through to the tip of her tail on move. Moved with purpose.

1. Palmer’s LINIRGOR LADY OF CAIRNGLEN – One I have judged before and liked very much. Glad she didn’t disappoint today. Mid golden girl who is maturing nicely. Well balanced head with soft expression. Clean through neck onto correct lay of shoulder. Level topline. Nothing overdone. Good coat and condition. Moved positively round ring. BB, BOB & GP2.

2. Lochhead’s BLUEBRAES MEADOW PIPIT – Maturer young lady with a nice feminine head, dark eye and kind expression. Balanced through body, short coupled. Straight forelegs, well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room. Strong hindquarters and straight hocks. Moved out well.
