Torquay & District Canine Society

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Wire Haired)

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge the Hound breeds. My gratitude also goes to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for providing an excellent lunch, and to my efficient steward, Tracey Hill, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. While I did not encounter any significant faults, I did feel that the general movement of some Beagles and Dachshunds could have been improved. However, I was generally delighted with the high standard presented.

Dachshund (Miniature Wire Haired):

PG (3,0) 1 KILROY’S, JANACOP SWEET CHILD OF MINE, 9-month-old SHADED RED D, An outstanding puppy who was difficult to fault and presents excellent Miniature Wire type. Moderately long in proportion to height with sufficient ground clearance and withers and quarters of approximately the same height, giving a balanced outline without exaggeration. Good forequarters with correct shoulder placement and strong bone. Body well muscled and compact. Hindquarters strong and well developed. Moved with great freedom and drive, maintaining a firm topline. Coat excellent for age, dense and harsh in texture with correct furnishings. Only just beaten for Best of Breed on maturity on the day. RBOB & BPIB. Really pleased to see this puppy go on to take HPG2, really well deserved! 2 COLES’, ROZAMIE REPUTATION, 10-month-old WILD BOAR B, A pleasing youngster with good proportions and adequate ground clearance, showing correct miniature balance. Hindquarters good and body compact. Movement showed some tendency to narrow in front at times which affected overall front action. Coat acceptable in texture and presentation. With continued development she should strengthen and improve in front movement. O (2,1) 1 KILROY’S, ROZELLE ROSALIE AT JANACOP JW, 2 year old RED BRINDLE B, A really impressive exhibit with excellent general appearance and true Miniature Wire type. Lovely head and skull with correct proportions; slightly shorter in muzzle but still balanced and in proportion to the skull. Good neck running cleanly into well placed shoulders and strong forequarters. Moderately long in proportion to height with sufficient ground clearance and withers and quarters of approximately the same height, giving a well balanced outline without exaggeration. Hindquarters strong and well muscled. Moved with fantastic freedom and drive, maintaining a firm topline. Coat excellent in texture, dense and harsh with correct furnishings. BOB. 2 ROSE’S, MERRYLINE MARTHA WITH ROSENCRANTZ JW, 20-month-old WILD BOAR B, A pleasing bitch with a nice head and skull and balanced outline. Slightly taller in height but with good body length and overall proportion. Forequarters adequate and body well muscled. Movement sound and free. Coat not quite as harsh in texture as preferred for the wire variety, which detracted slightly from overall finish, but still a quality exhibit.
