Spaniel Breeds

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee of the Tay Valley Gundog Association for inviting me to judge today.

Secondly, a huge thank you to all the exhibitors who entered and supported my appointment. My sincere thanks also go to my stewards, who kept everything running so smoothly throughout the day.

Finally, thank you all for your excellent sportsmanship, gracious acceptance of my decisions and for creating such a wonderful iatmosphere around the ring. It was a pleasure to judge you all.

Cocker Spaniel

Puppy (8,3)

1st LYNWATER STARS SPANGLE AT LUANSHYA BPIB A well-balanced 10-month-old dog which is well constructed and developed for his age. He has a masculine, well-proportioned head with clean lines, a well-defined stop and dark, expressive eyes, giving a gentle expression. He has balanced fore and hindquarter angulation, good muscle tone, a well-developed forechest and well-sprung ribs. His topline is firm and level, which he maintained on the move. He moves freely and purposefully, with good reach in front and strong drive from behind, covering the ground well.

2nd INVERELLA EMERALD TIES A 7-month-old bitch with a beautiful, feminine head and the most expressive eyes. Her ears are set low, level with her eyes. She has a neatly set neck flowing into sloping shoulders. Her topline is level and well maintained on the move. She is well boned both fore and aft, with good bend of stifle and firm, cat-like feet. Moved well around the ring with good rear drive.

Graduate (2,1)

1st WHINBURN DEARG AURORA A 2½-year-old dog who stood alone today but thoroughly deserved his win. He has a lovely masculine head, with a square muzzle and distinct stop, giving him a soft, melting expression. On the stack, he is well-balanced, with a firm, level topline, creating a very pleasing outline. Good width throughout, with plenty of bone and substance. He has good, well-padded, cat-like feet. He moved around the ring with good drive and purpose, covering the ground effortlessly.

Post Graduate (4,1)

1st LYNWATER TIANA A 2½-year-old bitch, presenting a feminine head with gentle, expressive eyes and a pleasing ear set. She has straight, well-boned forelegs and neat, cat-like feet. Good depth of chest with well-sprung ribs, a firm topline and correct tail set. Her rear quarters are well muscled with well-let-down hocks. She moves effortlessly, with a free, ground-covering stride, showing good drive from the rear.

2nd TOTENKOPF DANCIN ON CEILING A 2½-year-old dog who pushed my class winner hard today. He presents a well-balanced outline, with a masculine head softened by kind eyes. Good stop, and a square muzzle of pleasing depth and width. Clean neck of good length, flowing into well-laid shoulders, with good depth of chest. Forelegs straight and well-boned, leading to neat, cat-like feet. Well sprung ribs carried well back to a wide, short, strong loin.

Limit (9,4)

This was by far the toughest class I judged today, with some absolutely stunning exhibits that really showed their socks off! On any other day, I’m sure the placings could easily have been different. A fantastic class with very little between them! 

1st ANNILANN MISTER BOO BOB A 4-year-old dog with a most handsome head and a kind, intelligent expression. Skull and muzzle are well balanced and in good proportion, with dark eyes of correct shape, size and placement, enhancing his gentle expression. He has a moderate, muscular neck leading into a chest of good depth. Forequarters are straight and strong, with good bone and well-padded, cat-like feet. He has a compact, strong body, well muscled throughout, with well-sprung ribs carried well back and good width of loin. Hindquarters are strong and sound, with good muscle tone and well-balanced angulation, complementing the forequarters. He moves soundly, covering the ground well with good drive.

2nd SHOOGSEA HEIR JW A 3-year-old male of good masculine type, presenting a masculine head with dark, gentle eyes and low-set ears. He has a muscular neck leading into a level topline, which he maintains well on the move. His tail is correctly set and carried with a lively action, wagging continuously. He is well muscled throughout, with well-sprung ribs, well-bent stifles and good, well-padded feet. Presented in a lovely coat and excellent condition, he moves well with a lively, positive action.

1st SHOOGSEA BIBIDI BOBIDI BOO BVIB A lovely 8-year-old veteran bitch, looking and showing in superb condition. She was presented beautifully, with an excellent coat and overall condition. She has a pretty, feminine head with a lovely dark eye, and a muscular neck flowing into a good front assembly. Her topline is level and was maintained well on the move. Good depth and width of chest, well-sprung ribs, and a short, muscular loin. She clearly enjoyed her time in the ring, showing great enthusiasm and presence. She moved out very well, with accurate footfall, good reach and drive, completing a very pleasing performance.

2nd SHCH PEARKIM POKÉMON AT LUANSHYA JW, VW Another beautiful veteran in a quality Open Class. This 9½-year-old male has a masculine head, kind eyes, a strong, square muzzle of good length, and correct stop. His strong, muscular neck flows into a well-laid front assembly, with good shoulders and a level topline. Muscular hindquarters with good width through both thighs and well-bent stifles. He moved effortlessly around the ring, with ground-covering movement and good drive, belying his years. Pushed my class winner hard today.

1st DONARDEN MISTY SHORE BOB/BPIB A 7-month-old bitch who is still very raw. She has a feminine, balanced head with kind, expressive eyes and ears of good length. Good length of neck, free from throatiness, leading into a level topline, which she held well on the move. Well-sprung ribs for her age. Moved around the ring with a free, easy action.

Welsh Springer Spaniel

1st ZARA FLORENCE OUR LOYAL WELSH AT EDINCRAW (IMP NDL) BOB An 8½-year-old bitch who certainly belied her age. Beautifully balanced throughout and presented in superb coat and condition. She has a lovely head with a kind, expressive eye, and a clean neck flowing elegantly into well-laid shoulders. Her topline is level and was maintained well on the move. She has correct rear angulation and is well muscled throughout. She moved smoothly around the ring, displaying good power and drive.

Clumber Spaniel

1st KNOCKHALON SPOOKTACULAR OF TARANSTIGH BOB A 3 year old dog with a pleasing masculine head, correctly set ears and kind, gentle expression. He has a long, strong neck leading into a well-muscled body with a level topline, which he holds well on the move. He moves around the ring with effortless drive, showing good strength and purpose. He has a deep chest and large, round feet, all contributing to a pleasing overall picture.

1st IR SHCH/LUX CH/IT CH MALBECMOGS LADY OF THE LAKE AT KLANHALLION BOB A lovely bitch who, although standing alone, thoroughly deserved her win. She has a feminine, correct and well-balanced head with a kind expression. Well balanced when stacked, she has a long, strong neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Her chest is deep and well developed, with good substance throughout. Moving with the characteristic roll of the breed, she covered the ground with strength and purpose, maintaining a level topline.
