Bridgwater & District Canine Society

Breed: Beagle

Bridgewater & District Canine Society Open Show – 22nd March 2026

Judge: Jane Whitton (Haggatty)

Thank you very much to the Bridgewater & District Canine Society committee for inviting me to judge when Group judge Jane Eyeington was unable to judge the breed. Pleased to see my BOB and BP all gain good placings in the group as well!

Beagles

Thank you to all who entered under me. I was spoilt for choice as in the Junior class I was given a superb selection of babies across the ages that it made selection difficult and wish I could have split into a Puppy and Junior class. In Open as well I was presented with very worthy Hounds who all showed the wide variations of type that we have within our breed meaning I was presented with dogs who could have all been winners on any given day as all had their own excellent qualities to bring to the table.

JUNIOR (6,0)

1st – Bell-Thomas’s Amorpapaver Copernicus

13mth old Tricolour dog. He caught my eye immediately when he entered the ring. He has the softest of expressions to draw you in, a handsome, not overdone head, good length of neck and a superbly level topline. His leg/body balance is spot on with him posessing a lovely front and chest, good ribbing and an excellent back end. Good bone and tight feet along with correct tail set. Once this boy matures settles and learns to show off his movement more, I think he could do very well. RBOB

2nd – Daniels Michelroy Earl Grey

12 mth old (on the day) very dark blanket tricolour dog. I’ve seen this dog from a distance for a while now and pleased to finally have a chance to go over him. He is up to size, and I would hope he won’t grow in height too much more but continue to fill out as he has been. This young male presents a pleasing frame that looks to be developing well. His long low set ears lead into a flowing neck, and he has a lovely melting expression. Stood up, he is showing a strong frame with very good front and forechest and decent angulation behind which he used to good effect when moving. A lot of maturing still to come but he’s very promising. BP and pleased to know he finished off his puppy career with a PG3.

OPEN (4,1)

1st – Scarlett’s Vanitonia Enchanted Over Michelroy JW

One I have judged before. Smart 2.5yr old Tricolour bitch who presents a fit, athletic figure built to do the job. Her lines are clean and flowing, with a good front, level topline and excellent hind angulation. She is a tad long but in a bitch that can be forgiven as she is balanced overall. Excellent feet and powerful, free movement. Pleased to award her BOB and to hear she later went HG4.

2nd – Breeze’s Parkbreeway Wyseman JW

4yr old male tan & white who is undeniably all male and of a totally different mould to the first. Loads to like about him, from his low set leathers and kind expression to his excellent topline and angulation. He is a powerhouse of a dog who uses that to drive around the ring. To be critical I would like to see a bit more balance to his leg/body ratio but he uses himself correctly and so it evens out. Close call in this class as I really like him overall but the winner just had the edge on him.
