Pointer Club

Many thanks to The Pointer Club committee for inviting me to judge their Open Show, my hard working stewards, and the exhibitors for such a good entry on a busy show weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed myself judging one of my favorite breeds, and there was a very friendly sporting atmosphere during the day.

1 Stilgoe/Fox’s Teisgol Snow Princess. Very promising 5 month old O/W babies. Littermates, and you could see the family resemblance. I liked their heads, length of neck, and bone. Princess just slightly steadier on the move than her brother. Both so outgoing and well-schooled for their age.

2 Saunders/Newton’s Teisgol Snow Prince Charmin.

1 Matthews’ Sonham Brimstone. B/W 6 months old, attractive in outline, showing good angulation and balance front and rear. Nice head, correct earset, lengthy neck flowing into shoulders. Good bone and depth through brisket. Moved with enthusiasm but tending to throw his front legs. Well set on tail.  

2 Senior’s Riowood Cherry Bomb. Very slightly older O/W but larger pup all through and will take more time. Handsome head with good stop and dish to muzzle. Enough depth at this stage and strong bone, sloping pasterns, well arched toes.

3 Earl/Wheldon/Jones’ Caithpoint Gie It Laldy.

1 Mason’s Freebreeze Noel Coward. 9 months O/W a little rangier than the others today, he had a masculine head, wouldn’t want him and broader in skull, good pigmentation. Excellent neck and front angulation, just needs to balance up in rear, very well muscled but could use a little more weight to advantage. Harsh coat, depth to elbows and well ribbed back. Correctly set tail and used actively on the move. BPD.

1 Rayner/Spinks/Pringle’s Collholme Mr Brown with Spinray. L/W 17 months, good head properties, slight dish to muzzle and good stop. Thin ear leathers, pointed at tip. Eye colour ok. Arched neck into well laid back shoulders, and excellent depth of brisket. Would like more bend of stifle. His sound and steady movement took the class.  

2 Saunders/Newton’s Corotine Velvet Tuxedo. 14 month B/W Handsome head, developing well, with good stop and muzzle shape. Excellent lengthy neck blending into shoulders, ribs sprung well and ribbed back. Sloping pasterns and oval feet. Tending to fall away over croup, markings don’t help so I needed to look closely. Not as settled in movement here.

3 O’Neill’s Tenshilling Hello Stranger

1 Siddle/Mazzeo’s Wilchrimane Cereal Killer. 19 month B/W. Smart boy, not the biggest but still masculine. Nicely shaped head with good stop and dish to wide nostrils. The lengthiest of necks, well balanced front and rear. Tail was correctly set, but held a bit high on the move.  

2 Booth/Oddie’s Lundgarth Fly The Flag JW. O/W 20 months, good pointer type, good stop, but find his skull a bit broad in balance at this stage. Lengthy neck, and good depth to brisket. Correct tail and used well. Driving soundly behind.  

3 Angus/O’Neill’s Tenshilling Catch The Wind.

1 Walton’s Meadowpoint Jack O’Lantern at Pointmoor. Class of varying type and movement. 2 year old O/W Liked his outline, and masculine typical head, good pigmentation and eye. Good forehand and depth. Sloping pasterns, oval feet. Topline and tailset good. Moved the soundest in the class today.  

2 Millett’s Laveto Remember When. 16 month B/W giving a bit away in maturity, but well balanced and good bone. Nice headpiece but wouldn’t want his muzzle any shorter. Slightly sloping pasterns with oval feet and well arched toes. Level back falling away at loin. Just not as tidy in front movement. 3 Saunders/Newton’s Teisgol Calendula JW.

1 O’Neill’s Tenshilling Shboom JW. 2.5 year old B/W. So much to like, strong with good bone, Straight front and excellent angulation. Attractive well balanced head and eye, arched neck, shoulders well back. Depth of brisket to elbows, well sprung ribs. Clean in underline. Would prefer a less steep croup. Covered some ground in profile using his tail well.

2 Stilgoe/Fox’s Teisgol Magic. Similar age B/W Nice head shape and earset, good pigmentation and soft expression. Arched neck leading into well angulated shoulders, excellent depth of brisket. Would like more angulation in rear to balance. Nice short hocks, moved soundly.  

3 Allen/Betts’ Hawkfield King’s Ransom.

1 Stilgoe/Fox’s Teisgol Sweet William JW JCh. Just 2 O/W. Free from exaggeration but still stylish. Handsome head and expression. Good stop, slight dish to muzzle and kindly eye. Strong and lengthy neck flowing cleanly into well laid back shoulders. Good spring of rib, topline and tailset. Well- muscled and it showed in his correct footfall and lengthy stride around the ring. RBD.

2 Marsh’s Alozia Zealandia for Ratchda JW. Almost 3 L/W Very balanced in outline and angulation. Good head proportions, and fine medium length ears to pointed tip. Strong straight bone, slope at pasterns and oval feet with arched toes. Well bent stifles and short hocks. Moved accurately and with style. Close decision and 2 quality males.

3 Millett’s Riowood Orange Twist.

1 Gordon’s Davigdor Flanders Field. 4 year O/W. Standing alone, mature and with a curvy outline and good angles. Attractive head, dark eyes and good pigmentation. Ears set high, lying close to head. Arched neck leading into well laid back shoulders, plenty of lung room and depth. Excellent topline, good quarters and short hocks. Moved with enthusiasm here, and I liked his lashing tail action. Just not in the condition of the bitches today. BD

2 Allen/Betts’ Hawkfield King’s Ransom. 3 Year old O/W. Looking a bit rangier and taller than 1st. Handsome head, clean throat and good length of neck. Good rear angulation, but would prefer more in front. Correct harsh fine coat.

3 Hall’s Jilony Columbo at Dalhallpals.

1 Booth’s Lundgarth Finch. 8.5 year old O/W. Looking well and in excellent condition. Correct in head proportions, kindly eye and expression, pleasing arch to neck. Would prefer a bit more depth thru body but well angled quarters. Short active tail. Moved in profile ok and very sound going away. BVD.

1 Oddie’s Riowood Cherry Jubilee at Sharnphilly. 7 month old O/W. What a lovely pup. Full of pointer type in her outline. Feminine, but still strong enough in bone, sweet head and expression, dark eyes, quality arch to neck, depth of brisket coming, well ribbed back. Correct topline and tailset. Excellent angulation through rear with short hocks. Moved out well for one so young, shall watch her career with interest. BPB & BPIS.

1 Nelis’ Freebreeze Carla Lane. 9 month B/W nothing exaggerated, pleasing in outline. Still developing in head and would prefer slightly more stop and depth of muzzle. The lengthiest of necks leading smoothly into her shoulders, stood on good shaped feet. Balanced angulation fore and aft, with well set tail used actively on the move.  

2 Oddie’s Sharnphilly Euphoria for Riowood.13 month O/W Nice typy puppy. Liked her head piece, eye and she had good pigmentation. Excellent angulation and depth. Strong straight bone in forelegs with a slope to pasterns. Tailset a little low. Just needs to grow into her skin, but plenty of time.

3 Macmanus’ Freebreeze Gertrude Stein at Luneville.

1 Collins’ Collholme Honeysuckle. 17 month L/W Correct eye colour and pigmentation, Good stop and depth of muzzle, leathers set on high and lying close to head. Good length of neck into reasonable front angulation, good depth of brisket, and well arched toes. Not quite the angulation presently through rear and second thigh. Would prefer a slightly less steep croup, but moved well to take this class.

2 Gordon’s Hawkfield Bewitched. 14 month O/W. Lovely shape to her head, very pretty. Excellent neck and well angled front, good pasterns and feet. A little long in loin, but not helped by her lack of condition today. Well bent stifles and short hocks. Not as clean in front movement as 1st.

1 Booth’s Lundgarth Ticket To Fly JW. 2.5 years B/W quality young lady, not the biggest but balanced and typy. The darkest of eyes, and sweet expression, perhaps a little more length of muzzle for balance. She has a lengthy neck going smoothly into well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. Good depth of brisket, decent pasterns and feet. Correct topline, well bent stifles and short hocks. Moved out soundly using her well set on tail.

2 Matthews’ Sonham Just A Pretty Belle (AI) JW. Just 2 L/W, again, a nice type with some similar attributes. Slightly taller but still a good size. Well shaped head, Good arch to neck, not quite the front angulation as 1st, and would prefer a little more slope to pasterns and more oval feet. Has the depth of brisket and well sprung ribcage. Excellent topline and tailset. Looked good in profile when moving.

1 Matthews’ Sonham Just Good Friends (AI) JW. Litter sister to Pretty Belle L/W. Still maturing in body as to be expected. Head shape ok, but would prefer a slightly darker eye. Very nice arched neck leading into shoulders and enough chest width. Good topline and tailset, best of tails. Balanced quarters and short hocks.    

2 Millett’s Laveto Tennessee Whiskey. 2 years O/W. Preferred her head, very feminine with dark eyes, slight dish to muzzle and well set ears. Balanced both front and in rear angulation. Ribs well sprung and well back. Just not as clean in front movement today.

1 Robson’s Codnorhawk Dinky Stta at Bradgate. 6 years B/W Mature girl with good depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Nice dark eyes, wide nostrils and well set ear leathers. Would prefer more angulation for balance. Held her topline on the move.

2 Hall’s Jilony Beautiful Dream at Dalhallpals. 5 year B/W. Sweet head and expression, good length of neck into shoulders. Good bone. Would prefer more width of second thigh. Tending to pull away from her handler on the move, making assessment difficult.

1 Stilgoe/Fox’s Teisgol Rose Campion JW JCh. Almost 2 O/W. Typy and not overdone in any way and balanced. Feminine head, dark eyes and soft kind expression. Slight dish to muzzle, and pronounced occiput. Long neck leading into good front angulation. Elbows tight, slight slope to pasterns and oval feet. Correct harsh coat. Well sprung ribs and strong across loin. Muscular quarters and short hocks. Excellent tail. Moved with style and a good stride holding her topline. BB & BIS.

2 Gates’ Sharnphilly Dizzy Blonde at Linosa.2 Year O/W Slightly larger all through than 1st but still feminine and of good type. Perhaps a little more depth of muzzle to balance skull, but the darkest of eyes, ear leathers thin and perfectly shaped. Clean thru throat and long lean neck. Excellent angulation and depth. Correct topline and tailset. Well-muscled and good width across quarters, short hocks. Moved very precisely, driving from behind with good reach in front to take RBB & RBIS.

3 Nelis’ Freebreeze Special Effects JW.

1 Blowers’ Fowington Lar Ti Dar at Deadaway SGWC. 6 year O/W in her prime and looking well today. Liked her curvy outline and everything flowed. Head of a different type to the main winners but balanced with all the essentials. Excellent angles and clean underline. Good depth to brisket, sloping pasterns and good feet. Good bend of stifle and very well muscled with short hocks. Moved out well in profile using her bee sting tail constantly. Just not as clean coming towards me today, but close up to top awards.    

2 Booth’s Lundgarth Everest JW. 5 years on the day, O/W Feminine girl, nice type with good lines. Pretty head with dark eyes, well set and shaped ear leathers laying close to head. Good body properties. Moved very well using her tail, just preferred quarters of 1st.

3 Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times JW.

1 Collins’ Collholme Angelique. 5 year O/W Unplaced in the strong limit class. Pretty well shaped head, lengthy neck and shoulders well laid back. Would prefer a little more angulation through rear and a less steep croup.

1 Mason’s Morgan Van Freebreeze (imp NLD) ShCEx. 7 years O/W larger, and more substantial in bone, but of good type. Excellent angulation in front with depth to elbows, straight forelegs and the slope required of pasterns. Well arched toes. Ribs well sprung and enough rear angulation. Moved well for BVB & BVIS.

2 Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy. 7 year Lemon. Happy indeed. My notes say ‘what a character!’ In a smaller mould than the first but liked her overall shape and angles. Well bent stifles and width of second thigh, short hocks. Excellent topline and tail she used really well on the move. Just not as precise in front movement.

3 Robson’s Bradgate Until Dusk.

Brace D/B 4(1) All braces showed well and moved in unison. Matching types too. Well done.
