Harrogate & District Canine Society

My first judging appointment was for this Society 20 years ago in February 2006, so very many thanks to the Committee for my invitation to return to where it all started, albeit a different venue and breed. Many thanks also for my lunch, and anniversary mug and bag. My grateful thanks to my steward for keeping things organised and special thanks to the exhibitors for their entry and for turning out on a wet morning, not the best of conditions for our hobby. Dachshund Miniature Long Haired Junior (2,0) 1st McNulty’s Daniello Felix Star at Abbykeira D. Appealing black and tan boy only just out of puppy but maturing nicely. Balanced lad with a nice head, good prosternum and ground clearance, standing on strong feet. Level topline with gradual rise to underline. Well angulated fore and hind quarters. Moved well out and back and strode out nicely in profile. 2nd McNulty’s Unlocked Heart at Abbykeira B. Pretty cream bitch with a balanced head and nice expression. Well sprung ribs with good prosternum and carried well back to short, strong loin. Moved well away but a little untidy back today, and ok in profile. Open (4,1) 1st & BOB May’s Scrumptious Red On The Dot JW D. Judged this lad as a puppy and see he now has his JW, congratulations. He has matured into a lovely quality boy with type and balance. Still has good proportions and a nice head with a gentle expression. Well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm setting his elbows close to his well sprung ribs, carried well back. Nice top and under lines leading to well constructed hindquarters. On the move he was sound out and back and showed reach and drive in profile with free and easy strides. Pleased to award him BOB today. 2nd McNulty’s Daniello Felix Star at Abbykeira (See Junior) 3rd McNulty’s Unlocked Heart at Abbykeira (See Junior) Dachshund Miniature Smooth Haired Post Graduate (1,0) 1st & BOB Richardson’s Teckeltown Elton John D. Three year old red dog. Good balance between his muzzle and skull with a nice expression. Good return of upper arm and correct placement of forelegs with good ground clearance. Nicely constructed hindquarters. Short, dense coat. Moved very well away, ok to and in profile. Dachshund Miniature Wire Haired Post Graduate (3,1) 1st Corner’s Carcorn Raphael’s Racer D. Nice lad, just over 3 years old with a good head and nicely constructed forequarters with good width. Well ribbed back to short, strong loin and good ground clearance. Level topline and gentle rise to underline. Nice harsh coat. A little untidy to and fro today but ok in profile. Would just prefer a slightly lower tail carriage. 2nd Paipala’s Alanea Sweet Honey at Rogansrock B. Feminine 2 year old also with a nice head, dark eye and good beard with bushy eyebrows. Preferred the width of front and ground clearance of 1 today. Moved close out and back today but very nicely in profile with free, easy strides. Open (1,0) 1st & BOB Paipala & Holgate’s Ridanflight Rosabelle with Alanea B. Quality, balanced and feminine red girl with nice type and good proportions. Lovely, conical head with brow ridges. Strong neck into well laid shoulders with good upper arm setting her elbows well under and close in. Prominent prosternum, good bone and standing on well padded feet. Just out of coat today. Level topline held well on the move. Straightest of movers out and back and showed free easy strides in profile. Dachshund Long Haired Post Graduate (3,1) 1st Lumley’s Swansford Diadora B. I have judged this girl before and my notes are very similar to last time. Typey and strong but feminine girl in gorgeous coat. Nice head and strong neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Prominent forechest with good ground clearance and well sprung ribs. Standing on neat, strong feet. Level topline and well ribbed back into short loin. Moved a little close today and steady in profile. Pushed hard for BOB. 2nd Wedge’s Dolan Summer Time Blues B. Feminine red girl with a nicely constructed forequarters and a good prosternum. Good ground clearance and lovely topline with slight arch over the loin. Moved very close out and back but well in profile. Just preferred the movement and underjaw of 1 today. Open (2,0) 1st & BOB Lumley’s Dagastren Martha My Dear B. Another bitch I have judged before from this kennel. Lovely, feminine and typey red bitch with good proportions, and a good head and expression. Nice clean, front construction with elbows tucked in close to her ribcage and prominent prosternum. Standing on good feet. Level topline with slight arch over her loin leading to well muscled hindquarters. Moved straight out and back and steady in profile. Another close call between these two girls, she just beat her kennel mate with her tidy out and back movement today. 2nd Wedge’s Tears Of A Clown D. Handsome, masculine 5 year old lad. Balanced head and strong neck into good prosternum and good ground clearance under. Well presented coat. Moved very close out and back today but strode out very nicely in profile. Preferred the underjaw of 1 today. Dachshund Smooth Haired Puppy (1,0) 1st BPIB & BOB Renton’s Jenivon’s Sweet Symphony at Thistlehound B. Lovely, feminine and balanced red 7½ month old girl with good proportions. Nice head although would prefer a little more underjaw. Strong neck into clean shoulders and good upper arm. Good ground clearance leading to well made hindquarters. Moved a little untidy away but very well back and in profile. Dachshund Wire Haired Puppy (1,0) 1st BPIB & BOB Corner’s Dollydash Liberty Of The Sea at Carcorn Very smart, balanced and strong but feminine, wild boar, 10 month old bitch. Nicely proportioned with a balanced head, well set and carried ears. Strong neck into well laid shoulders and good upper arm with elbows nicely tucked in. Excellent bone and feet. Good ground clearance leading to well constructed hindquarters. Good, harsh coat. On the moved she toed in slightly behind but sound coming and strode out well in profile.
