Perthshire Open Show 2 May 2026

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this well run and friendly show. The lunch options and the beautiful, personalised gift were greatly appreciated. Thanks also to my super, efficient steward Alicia Wilson for keeping things moving along, and to the exhibitors who entered and allowed me to judge their gorgeous charges.

Cairn Terrier Post Graduate

1st & BOB Gardner’s Lentrica Look to the Future with Aberforth - A lovely 9 mth youngster who appealed for her overall type and balance. Presented a beautiful harsh coat and compact well put together body. Correct head with keen expression, dark eye and neat well set ears. Good bone and shows promise throughout. Particularly liked her rear which is strong and well made, good tail set and carriage. Moved out positively, covering the ground well and holding her shape. A very promising youngster who was not to be denied today.

Open

1st Munro’s Birselaw a beautiful Dream - A 6 yr old mature bitch of good type who presents a well bodied picture. Appealed in head with a dark eye giving the correct expression, and she retains a good harsh coat. Moved OK today although a little close behind which detracted slightly from her performance. An honest, sound bitch with plenty to like.

2nd Gardner’s Lentrica New Beginnings for Aberforth - Litter mate to BOB and many of the same qualities apply, presenting a lovely make and shape and overall balance. Today she was just not as forward as her sister and wasn’t for co-operating, which made her harder to assess, particularly on the move. Nevertheless, a quality youngster who should come into her own in time.

Border Terrier Post Graduate

1st & BPIB Webb’s Elderthorne Dawns Artiste - A very appealing exhibit who presented the best movement in the class, clean and accurate both coming and going. Beautiful make and shape with lovely overall balance and proportions. Displayed a super harsh coat and a classic head, very typical. Presented a really pleasing, workmanlike picture both standing and on the move, which secured the class.

2nd Grassie’s Sandyfaulds Finn McCool - A male of good make and shape who appealed for his overall balance. Well constructed with good bone, enough substance, and balanced angulation throughout. Really liked him and he presents a pleasing, workmanlike picture. Just pipped on movement by the youngster today.

3rd Grassie’s Howthwaite Firedance at Sandyfaulds

RES Lawrence & Scrimgeour Comalegy Lady of the House with Fiadhaich

Open

1st & BOB Grassie’s Ravenside Run to Me at Sandyfaulds - A gorgeous male who really appealed for his overall make and shape and presented a very typical, workmanlike outline. A close call between him and 2nd. Fully mature and all of a piece, he has a lovely otter like head with a dark eye and small well carried ears giving the correct keen expression. Good length of neck flowing cleanly into well laid shoulders, and he held his topline well both stacked and on the move. Well bodied with good rib and firm loin, good muscle throughout. Balanced angulation fore and aft allowed him to move out soundly and with purpose. Good bone throughout with neat feet, and finished in a super harsh, dense coat to complete the picture.

2nd Webb’s Elderthorne Dawns Artiste – 1st Post Graduate

3rd Lawrence & Scrimgeour Comalegy The Countess with Fiadhaich JW

RES Grassie’s Valicetarn Vienna Eclipse at Sandyfaulds

Welsh Springer Spaniel Post Graduate

1st Knox & Mole’s Jennifer Our Loyal Welsh at Edincraw (Imp NDL) - 5 year old bitch who presents a pleasing, balanced outline. Good in head with correct proportions between skull and muzzle. Clean through neck flowing into well constructed shoulders, with sufficient forechest. Stands on good legs and feet and held her topline well both stacked and on the move. Moved in a steady, methodical manner, covering the ground efficiently. An honest, sound bitch.

2nd & BPIB Tillett’s Just for You Fan’t Detica (Imp NDL) - 7 month puppy dog with plenty of promise. Good head already showing masculinity and well marked. Still very much a baby and a bit full of himself today, which made movement hard to assess, and rather proud of his tail at times. However, he has all the basics in place and should develop into a nice boy given time.

Open

1st & BOB Knox & Mole’s Zaza Florence Our Loyal Welsh at Edincraw (Imp NDL) - 8 year old bitch who presents a lovely profile and was good to go over, being in excellent body condition and muscle tone. Correct proportions and very typical. Appealed in head, clean through neck into well laid shoulders, and shown in great coat. She excelled on the move, holding a strong topline throughout, with correct tail set and carriage, covering the ground with ease.

2nd Tillett’s Glory Road Fan’t Detica (Imp NDL) - 2 year old male who unfortunately was not enjoying his day and did not want to move or show himself off, which made assessment difficult. Not quite the same overall balance in outline as 1st, being a shade longer in body. That said, he is a beautifully conditioned boy with a super coat and clean markings, good bone and balanced angulation, and there is much to like.

English Springer Spaniel Post Graduate

1st & BOB Stevenson’s Spuffing Daiquiri at Gaolachcara JW - 20 month old bitch who I have judged previously and liked, and I see no reason to change my opinion. She is maturing and developing well and presents a lovely, balanced outline. Appealing in head showing correct fluting between her dark eyes, correctly set feathered lobular ear with good balance of skull and muzzle. She flows nicely from neck through shoulder, topline and tail, giving a very pleasing overall picture. Well ribbed with good bone throughout and in excellent muscle tone. Balanced angulation front and rear allowed her to move with a correct, flowing and precise action to take BOB.

Open

1st Stevenson’s Peasblossom Brogan at Gaolachcara - 3 year old mature male who presents a balanced outline and is very typical. Good in head with correct furnishings, balanced proportions, good eye and well set ear. Well bodied and muscled, with correct neck flowing into good shoulders and a firm topline. Moved out with drive and purpose. A difficult decision between these two, but the bitch’s steadier and more precise movement just gave her the edge today.

Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Open

1st & BOB Garden’s Leiborschy Theano - 2 year old bitch who presented a nice, balanced outline and is well proportioned throughout. Good in head with correct balance, well set ear and eye giving a typical expression. Clean through the neck into shoulders and maintained a firm topline. Enough forechest and stood on good legs and feet, with adequate return of upper arm. Moved out well enough, carrying her tail correctly. Shown in a good coat of correct texture to complete the picture.

Bracco Italiano Post Graduate

1st & BOB Bowley’s Gunsyn Superstitious - 2 year old orange and white dog who presented a balanced outline with good depth of chest and correct topline. Typical in head, which I liked very much, with lovely eye and ear, good chiselling below the eye, deep flew and a lovely large nose. Powerful neck flowed into long, muscular shoulders. Stood on good legs with defined tendons and good feet. Well sprung ribs extending well back to a short, wide loin. Strong, well muscled rear with long thighs and correct bend of stifle. Moved steadily and accurately to secure BOB.

Open

1st Bowley’s Sh Ch Gunsyn Gineva - Mature bitch of 5½ years who appealed in head and expression, showing balance in skull and depth to muzzle, with a great nose and lovely ears. Powerful neck into long, well laid shoulders, correct topline, good spring of rib and depth of chest. Stood on good legs and feet and moved out well with drive. A close decision between two lovely dogs.

Thanks to the LMC for the supported entry at the show today.

Large Münsterländer Junior

1st Logie’s Albadhu I’m Addicted to You - 13 month old bitch who is developing well and presents a balanced picture. Good in head with a dark eye and correctly set broad ears. Adequate forechest for her age, with good bone and upper arm. Spring of rib developing as expected and body and musculature coming along nicely. In profile looked good on the move, although a little untidy coming and going which should improve as she matures.

Post Graduate

1st Logie’s Albadhu I’m Mad About You - Another 13 month old bitch, heavier in build throughout. Good in head. OK front, good legs with correct bone. Not quite the strength in topline of the Junior winner and a little less angulation, but nevertheless a sound exhibit who moved well enough.

Limit

1st Uherkovichova’s Ulys Du Pic Des Berlanches Avec Exelby (Imp Fra) - Male in super coat and condition who appealed greatly, particularly in head. Good neck flowing into a firm topline and sufficient forechest. Stood on good legs and feet with depth and spring of rib carried back to a short loin. Would prefer a little more rear angulation and second thigh, but he moved well and made a pleasing overall picture.

Open

1st & BOB Braidwood & Logie’s Sh Ch Albadhu Pawsitive Vibes JW - 7 year old bitch in lovely coat and condition. Good in head, neck and shoulder construction, and held her topline well both stacked and on the move. Balanced enough in angulation which matched fore and aft. Good depth and spring of rib. Well bodied and good muscle tone throughout. Moved out well, just a shade close behind today, but still did enough to secure BOB.

2nd Logie’s Sh Ch Graf III Vom Busshof at Albadhu ShCEx - 2½ year old male with a pleasing overall outline. Correct head and skull, Strength to neck and good forechest and balanced angulation, well ribbed with a short loin. Not holding the strongest topline today and not as positive in rear movement, which cost him against the winner.

Italian Spinone Post Graduate

1st & BPIB McGrory’s Javal The Same Old Scene - 9 month old bitch who was the most forward in this class. Lovely balanced head with correct divergent planes, good eye and ear and a lovely large nose. Showing some strength to neck, with good shoulder placement and return of upper arm. Stands on oval bone with defined tendons and large feet. Correct topline, with good depth to chest and spring of rib for her age, leading to a short loin. Balanced angulation and moved well for her age. Shown in a lovely harsh coat.

2nd Mackay’s Testaverde Deal Or No Deal - 3 ½ year old male who did not present quite the same typical outline, tending to a more level topline. Nevertheless, he appealed in head, stood on well boned legs with good feet, was well bodied and muscled with a lovely harsh though slightly shorter coat and moved out well.

3rd Ciesielski’s Javal Love Is The Drug

Open

1st & BOB Duncan’s Diggermere Tiger Swallowtail JW ShCEx OSW - Lovely mature male who presented a very typical outline and was well balanced throughout. Correct head with divergent planes, good eye and ear, depth of flew and good balance through muzzle and skull. Short, strong neck into well laid shoulders with corresponding return of upper arm. Correct topline with slight rise to the loin, deep chest and long ribs carried back to a short, strong loin. Balanced angulation and well muscled throughout, moving out with ease and covering the ground well to secure BOB.

2nd Ciesielski’s Javal Gangsta Boo - Bitch rising 2 years with a lot to like. Lovely head and expression, super through neck and body, in lovely condition, well boned and with balanced, correct angulation. Moved out well. Lovely coat. A very close decision between two quality exhibits.

SKC Junior Handling 6-11 Years

1st Konan Maver handling a Vizsla. Konan paid close attention to his dog and engaged well with it. Presented his dog to advantage, unobtrusively placing the feet and lead correctly and ensuring it was always looking good, regardless of when I looked in his direction. He followed the instructions given to him, ensuring straight lines and tight corners and presented and moved his dog at the correct pace, being aware of my position at all times. Very well done.

2nd Evie Bryson handling a SCWT. Evie is a well schooled handler and also paid attention to her dog and my position, she also had quite neat lines and corners. I just felt she was not quite as engaged with her dog.

3rd Layla Duncan

RES Jackson Kirkwood-Emery

12 – 16 Years

1st and BJH Karson Maver handling a Cocker. Karson was the handler who was most in sync with his dog. He spoke to it quietly and reassuringly, encouraging it in the class and sheltering it from the sun whilst still ensuring he never came between the dog and my line of sight. It was responsive to him and his requests and they make a great team. His lines were straight and his corners were tight and neat, his dog was moved at the correct pace and always looked good. Close decision but his rapport with his dog won him BJH. A very polished performance.

2nd Chloe Black handling a Papillion. Another accomplished handler here, presented her charge well and was unobtrusive in her handling, ensuring she was aware of my position and moved her dog at a steady pace appropriate for the breed.

3rd Kira Dunbar
