PREMIER Open Show 18 June 2026

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge my original Terrier breeds, some of the Gundog breeds and the Gundog Group. I had a fabulous day with wonderful dogs, full of quality. Thanks so much to the exhibitors who entered their dogs under me, and to my stewards who kept things running well which contributed to the society having a relatively early BIS.

I was delighted with the quality throughout the entry and several of my principal winners went on to achieve further success later in the day. Thank you all for your support and for presenting your dogs in such excellent condition.

Border Terrier Puppy

1st, BP Rose’s Ardenholm Prince of Thieves Promising young male of 10 months of lovely make and shape who presents a pleasing workmanlike outline. Perhaps a shade longer in body at present, although still very much developing. Good through head with a typical expression, dark eye and well set ears. Clean through neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Correctly spannable with balanced depth to height and length ratios. Good bone throughout with neat, compact feet. Moved out well, maintaining a firm topline and correct outline, showing the positive, purposeful movement I was looking for to secure the class and Best Puppy.

2nd Vaughn’s Holteal Sixpenny Worth Attractive young bitch who is 1 yr old tomorrow who also appealed greatly in head, with a feminine expression, dark eye and well set ears. Good through body and of correct substance for her age. Well balanced overall and presented a pleasing picture. Moved out soundly enough but lacked the positivity and accuracy in movement of first today. A promising youngster with much to like.

1st Nettle’s Onziemehurst the Navigator Just over 12 months old and presents a pleasing profile when stacked. Typical otter head with dark eye and keen expression. Clean, moderate length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. In good body condition and of pleasing overall balance. Moved out well, making good use of his tail and carrying it correctly, although not holding the strongest topline at times today. Nevertheless, a quality youngster with much to admire.

1st, RBOB Flowers’ Bingobongo’s Jubilee Moderately sized bitch who appealed for her balanced, workmanlike outline. Attractive head with dark eye, well set ears and typical expression. Correct bone throughout with good legs and neat feet. Correct underline and well ribbed body. Presented in a well textured coat of good quality. Tail set and carriage could be better, but she moved soundly and positively enough to win the class today and Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Hall’s Borderrush Bean and Gone JW 2 ½ yr old bitch who was not quite as typical in outline as first and lacked her overall balance. Shorter in muzzle and showing a more pronounced tuck up. Nevertheless, she held her topline well and moved as expected, showing herself steadily throughout. Plenty to like but preferred the overall breed type and balance of the winner.

1st Nettle’s Onziemehurst Ms Pankhurst Young bitch of just over a year old who appealed for her overall construction in this class. Better head and darker eye than second, with a keen expression and typical outlook. Balanced throughout and presented in good body condition. Made good use of her tail and presented a pleasing overall picture. Not the strongest mover in the class but her virtues elsewhere secured her place.

2nd Tuffin’s Southash Lavender Blue at Oatberry 7 yr old bitch who is longer cast and has a lighter eye than I would ideally like. Well boned throughout with neat cat like feet and good muscle tone. The better mover of the two today, covering the ground positively and maintaining her outline. A sound, honest bitch whose movement pushed first hard.

Border Terrier Open

1st, BOB Hall’s Borderrush Rambutan JW Lovely bitch of super make and shape and such a typical Border Terrier. Presented a very pleasing workmanlike outline with nothing exaggerated. Lovely head with keen expression, dark eye and correct ears. Clean through neck and shoulders and holding a good topline with correct tail set. Correctly spannable and ribbed well back. Moved out with style and enthusiasm, making full use of her well constructed rear and covering the ground effortlessly whilst maintaining her outline. Presented in the best harsh jacket which completed an excellent picture. Delighted to award her BOB.

2nd Tuffin’s Hartswelin Veritas with Oatberry 8 yr old male whom I liked a great deal. Appeals throughout for type and balance and presents a very honest picture. Typical head and expression, good construction and correct substance throughout. Moved out soundly enough but could not match the drive and positive movement of first today, being a shade close behind at times. Nevertheless, a quality veteran who fully deserved his placing.

Cairn Terrier Puppy

1st, BP Saich’s Lindcoly Beautiful Zuri Lovely wheaten bitch of 11 months who is maturing nicely and presents a pleasing overall picture. Perhaps a shade longer in body at present, although she is still developing and has time on her side. Appealing head with lovely dark eye, good ears and the typical keen expression of the breed. Good bone and substance throughout with correct feet. In the process of losing coat today but what remains is of the correct harsh texture. Moved well enough for her age, covering the ground positively and showing plenty of promise for the future. Delighted to award her Best Puppy.

Cairn Terrier Special Yearling

1st Saich’s Lindcoly This Is the One Attractive red bitch of 16 months who presents a more typical outline than the puppy winner. Lovely head and expression with a dark eye, correct furnishings and keen outlook. Well balanced throughout with good substance and body condition. A powerful mover who covered the ground well, although not always completely together today. Good tail set and carriage and shown in a lovely harsh coat which completed a very pleasing overall picture. A quality youngster developing well.

1st, BOB Saich’s Lindcoly Here Comes Oh Shi 4 yr old dark brindle bitch who immediately appealed for her overall balance and typical outline. Correct head, well furnished, with dark eye, well set ears and alert expression. Good through neck and forehand flowing into a firm topline. Correct depth of chest with good spring of rib and short coupled body. Well boned throughout with powerful legs and correct feet. Moved true both coming and going, maintaining her shape and showing the free, positive movement called for in the breed. A very typical Cairn presented in excellent order and an easy choice for Best of Breed.

1st, RBOB Saich’s Lindcoly Let It Be 4 yr old grey brindle bitch who presents a correct and balanced outline. Perhaps carrying a shade more weight than ideal if being particularly critical. Good harsh textured coat and typical alert expression with dark eye and well carried ears. Well constructed throughout with good legs and feet. Moved out cleanly and positively, maintaining her outline and showing herself well to secure Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Saich’s Lindcoly Ocean Dream 5 yr old bitch with many qualities and much to admire. Typical in head and expression and of pleasing overall type. Unfortunately today she seemed rather disinclined to move with any enthusiasm and was a little close behind, making it difficult to fully assess her virtues on the move. She did brighten up somewhat towards the end of the class and showed more of herself, but by then first had already established the stronger performance.

Cocker Spaniel Puppy

1st, RBOB, BP, PG2 Proudler’s Kimapa Kuromi Karrot Heading a particularly strong puppy class, this 9 month old orange roan bitch is one I have judged before and done well by, and today she shone again. Maturing nicely and presenting a very typical outline for her age, with her coat developing as expected. Classic in head with a lovely dark eye, well balanced proportions and the sweetest expression. Clean through neck flowing into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Well boned throughout and compact in body with correct depth to chest, good spring and length of rib, short strong loin and a well rounded rump. Correct tail set and carriage. Balanced angulation fore and aft and standing on neat, well padded feet. Moved round the ring with drive, panache and the happiest, merry Cocker action you could wish for, never stopping showing. Delighted to award her Best Puppy, Reserve Best of Breed, and to later award her Puppy Group 2.

2nd Taylor-Kistner’s Frieljoanipa Enya Dreams Attractive black bitch of 7 ½ months who was thoroughly enjoying her day. Appealed in outline and, on going over her, everything was where it should be and developing as expected for her age. Nicely balanced throughout with good substance and bone, neat feet and a pleasing overall shape. Moved out well, making good use of her tail and displaying the happy, merry temperament so typical of the breed. Another promising youngster with much to like, but just unable to match the overall finish and ring performance of first today.

1st Wildman’s Wilanorah Perfik Scoundrel at Chanmalo Blue roan male who secured this class through his positive, true movement and typical breed type, although there was very little between the first two. More balanced in head proportions than the second placed exhibit, with a beautiful dark eye and correct, gentle expression. Clean through the front assembly, with a firm topline and correct tail set. Compact, well muscled body with good depth and width throughout. Well boned legs, good feet and excellent width to first and second thighs. Moved out positively and accurately, maintaining his outline and using his tail to advantage, which ultimately secured him the class.

2nd Brothwell’s Annilann Da Business at Wissant JW Another quality exhibit with many of the same virtues as the winner. Correct through body with the expected substance, bone and coat for his age. Well balanced overall and moved out well, maintaining a firm outline and carrying his tail correctly. Preferred the head of first, which was more typical in proportion and expression, and this proved the deciding factor today. A shade wide going away at times, but still much to admire.

1st Proudler’s Kimapa Kwackers Kwtch Attractive liver roan bitch of 2 yrs who won this class on her positive, accurate movement. Typical in compact outline and very much all of a piece. Classic in head with a lovely dark eye and soft expression. Well clothed in a well kept coat of correct length and texture. Good through forehand with clean neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Particularly liked her depth and spring of rib, carried well back to a short strong loin. Rear angles nicely balanced with the front and she carries the correct amount of substance and muscle throughout. Well set on tail which she used to advantage. Moved around the ring with a true, typical merry Cocker gait, maintaining her outline throughout and securing the class.

2nd Keely & Ekstrand’s Oakbeach Crash Boom Bang into Alhambian (Imp SWE) Blue roan bitch rising 3 yrs and another I liked a great deal for type and overall construction. Lovely dark eye, balanced skull and correct expression. Moderate neck flowing into good shoulder placement and return of upper arm, with well boned legs and neat feet. Correct through topline with good ribs, short loin and balanced rear assembly. Moved out well, maintaining her outline and using her tail correctly, but was just outmoved by first today. A quality exhibit who pushed the winner hard.

1st, BOB Woods’ Plaiglen Biker Babe to Helenwood JW Beautiful black bitch of 2 ½ yrs and in absolutely spanking condition. She typifies everything I look for in a Cocker Spaniel. Most appealing head, so balanced, with dark gleaming eyes and the sweetest expression. Presented to perfection in both body and coat condition. Clean through neck flowing into excellent forehand construction, with everything fitting together exactly as it should. Compact through body with good depth, spring and length of rib, short strong loin and well rounded rump. Correct tail set and carriage. Balanced angulation fore and aft and standing on excellent feet. Then she moves, powering round the ring with precision, purpose and a true merry Cocker action whilst maintaining her outline throughout. A lovely bitch who was an easy choice for Best of Breed.

2nd Keely’s Sh Ch Oakbeach Dare to Dream Big with Alhambian (Imp SWE) Another beauty and this blue roan bitch is a worthy champion who is clearly from the top drawer and only just into her veteran years. Very similar comments apply regarding her overall quality, balance and breed type. Lovely head and expression, excellent construction throughout and presented in first class condition. Moved out with drive and positivity, making good use of her tail and showing herself well. Today she was a shade close behind at times and that proved the deciding factor both in the class and later for Reserve Best of Breed. A quality bitch whom I greatly admired.

Irish Setter Puppy

1st, BP, RBOB, PG3 George’s Dazycutter Fire Dancer Lovely 9 month old bitch of excellent type and presenting a very pleasing outline. Good make and shape throughout and already showing many of the qualities I admire in the breed. Appealing head with a melting expression, good work through the skull and foreface with pleasing chiselling below the eyes. Lovely low set, lobular ears which were well covered and framed her head beautifully. Neck of correct length flowing cleanly into well laid shoulders. Good prosternum and developing nicely through the body with sufficient depth, spring and length of rib for her age. Clean through neck, shoulders and topline with a well set and correctly carried tail. Good width to first and second thighs with short, strong hocks allowing her to move with drive and panache, covering the ground freely whilst maintaining her outline. A promising youngster whom I was pleased to award Best Puppy, Reserve Best of Breed, and Puppy Group 3.

Irish Setter Open

1st, BOB Davis’ Pawsword Prairie Wind with Alanasett JW 10 yr old male who was clearly having a wonderful day out and was full of joy, fun and mischief throughout. A lovely ambassador for the breed and a credit to his owners. Presented in super body condition and carrying a beautiful coat. Classic head with a kind, melting expression, dark eye and lovely low set ears. Reachy neck flowing into well laid shoulders and continuing through a balanced topline. Good forechest with depth and length of rib, strong loin, good bone and neat feet. Well muscled throughout, particularly in the rear quarters, allowing him to drive positively from his short hocks whilst maintaining correct tail carriage. Moved with enthusiasm, style and purpose, covering the ground with the easy, flowing action so typical of the breed. His owners should be immensely proud of the condition in which he is presented. A thoroughly deserving Best of Breed winner today.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppy

1st, BP, RBOB Watts’ Oakmarsh Mischief Maker Just on 6 months and this lovely youngster really shone today. Attractive headpiece with pleasing balance and expression. Powerful neck fitting cleanly into well laid shoulders. Good depth of body and sufficient spring of rib for her age, with ample bone and good feet. Well muscled throughout, particularly in the rear where she already displays good width to first and second thighs and straight hocks. Moved out positively, showing the correct reach and drive and making full use of her construction. A very promising youngster with much to like and certainly one to watch for the future. Delighted to award her Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed.

1st Turner’s Oakmarsh Haunting Melody (AI) 6 yr old bitch of excellent substance and carrying a good coat of correct texture. Head of pleasing proportions with good eye and correctly placed ears. Muscular neck flowing into a sound forehand assembly. Well boned throughout with good substance. Not always holding the firmest topline, tending to sink into herself when relaxed, but nevertheless presenting a balanced picture overall. Good rear construction with muscular thighs and a well set tail. Moved out with drive and purpose, although a little loose behind at times today. Nevertheless, she displayed power without coarseness and carried a typical weather resistant coat.

1st, BOB Watts’ Oakmarsh Little Acorn JW RATN 2 ½ yr old bitch presenting a lovely profile and immediately appealing for her balance and overall breed type, clearly capable of a day’s work. Typical in head with good proportions, well placed dark eye and correct ear set. Strong neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Well boned legs standing on good feet. Correct depth and spring of rib extending well back to a powerful loin. Firm topline and well carried tail completing the outline. Straight and true on the move, making full use of her sound construction and powerful hindquarters to cover the ground efficiently. A quality bitch who combined type, balance and movement, and a super correct coat, making her an easy choice for Best of Breed.

1st Watts’ Ch Oakmarsh Freedom SGWC RATN 8 yr old bitch who certainly is not showing her age and was presented in good hard condition with a quality coat. Good balance through the head with a dark eye and correctly placed ears giving a typical expression. Good forechest and well boned legs. Depth to chest with well sprung ribs carried well back, providing the strength and substance called for in the breed. Correct topline, although I would prefer her tail set slightly higher. Well muscled rear quarters allowed her to drive round the ring positively, maintaining her outline and showing herself well throughout. A lovely veteran who remains a fine representative of the breed.

Curly Coated Retriever Special Yearling

1st, RBOB Pavitt & Whitehead’s Foxriever Fire Cracker (AI) 19 month old male who presented a pleasing profile and was shown in a coat of tight, crisp curls. Classic wedge shaped head with balanced proportions, dark eye and well set ears. Correct length of neck with good musculature flowing neatly into well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm placing his well boned forelegs correctly under the body and standing on neat feet. Level topline with a well set tail completing the outline. Deep through the chest with well sprung ribs carried back to a short, strong loin. Moderate turn of stifle and muscular thighs provided the power behind and he moved out steadily, maintaining his shape and showing himself well throughout. A worthy Reserve Best of Breed winner.

Curly Coated Retriever Limit

1st, BOB Sutton & Whitehead’s Foxriever Immortal Spirit JW 2 ½ yr old black male who immediately appealed for his substance and overall balance. Certainly a substantial lad, although I would not want him any larger, and importantly he remains balanced throughout. Correct wedge shaped head with pleasing proportions and a dark eye. Strong neck flowing into a firm topline, with well laid shoulders and well boned legs correctly positioned beneath him. Good depth to chest with moderate forechest and ribs extending well back to a short, strong loin. Rear assembly matched his forehand, giving the balanced angulation called for in the breed. This was evident on the move where he covered the ground with a correct driving action, holding his outline at all times. His combination of type, substance and sound movement secured Best of Breed.

1st Sutton & Whitehead’s Foxriever Grey Ghost SGWC Liver male of 4 ½ yrs who was determined not to make life easy for either his handler or myself today. Presented a good profile and shown in a correct coat with well defined, tight curls. Another of pleasing size, substance and balance. Classic head with good proportions, dark eye and typical expression. Clean through neck flowing into well laid shoulders, firm topline and deep, well sprung ribs carried back to a short loin. Well muscled rear quarters and a correctly set and carried tail completed the picture. His movement was somewhat erratic for much of the class, making him difficult to assess fully, but when he settled he showed the reach and drive his construction suggested and moved with the free, purposeful action expected of the breed. A quality dog who was not giving his handler an easy time of it today.

1st, RBOB Dunnett’s Hoedun Does It Matter Attractive 12½ month old bitch who immediately pleased in profile, presenting the classic flowing outline so characteristic of the breed. Beautifully moulded headpiece with dark eye and correct, well set ears giving a typical kind expression. Good strength to neck flowing into well laid back shoulders with balanced return of upper arm, placing her straight forelegs correctly beneath her body. Well boned throughout and standing on neat, well kept feet. Correct flat rib developing into slight spring behind the elbow, with good length of rib and short coupling. Well muscled rear with good width to thighs developing nicely for her age. Shown in a beautiful glossy coat which enhanced her outline. Moved with drive and purpose, carrying her tail correctly throughout. A quality youngster who was a worthy Reserve Best of Breed winner.

2nd Eggington & Davis’ Pajanbeck Hold My Halo 17 month old bitch who also appealed greatly in head and expression. Well constructed throughout, well bodied and muscular and presented in lovely condition. Not quite the front assembly of first, which ultimately gave the winner the edge. Held her topline well and moved out positively, although carrying her tail a little high at times and just a touch close going away today. Nevertheless, a very pleasing youngster with much to admire.

Flat Coated Retriever Limit

1st, BOB McQuade’s Maddouse Dimonds R’Forever Most attractive 2 yr old bitch who excelled in breed type and overall balance. A lovely feminine exhibit with everything fitting together as it should. Beautifully moulded head with the darkest of eyes and the typical soft, intelligent expression. Clean through neck and shoulders with excellent forehand construction and forechest. Correct ribbing extending well back, firm topline and short strong loin. Presented in super condition and carrying a beautiful quality coat. Made correctly throughout and this was reflected on the move, where she covered the ground freely and efficiently, driving from her moderately angled and correctly muscled quarters whilst maintaining her lovely outline. A very complete exhibit and an easy choice for Best of Breed.

2nd Parmee’s Everblack Enjoying Life Substantial male who carried plenty of quality and was presented in excellent muscular condition with a super coat. Appealed in head and expression and was well bodied throughout. Not quite the balance of the winner today, carrying a little more forehand than rear, which affected the overall picture for me. Nevertheless, a sound and positive mover who showed well throughout and fully deserved his placing.

3rd Eggington & Davis’ Pajanbeck Hold My Halo

Flat Coated Retriever Open

1st Eggington & Davis’ Pajanbeck Hold My Halo Repeat of second placed exhibit from Special Yearling. Pleased to see her settle much better in this class, allowing her many virtues to show to greater advantage. Maintained her topline well and moved with greater confidence and accuracy here, using her tail correctly and producing a more fluent overall performance to secure the class.

2nd McQuade’s Gemswin River of Dreams Fully mature bitch of almost 5 yrs who was more substantial throughout than the winner. Correct head with dark eye and well set ears producing a typical expression. Well bodied with balanced angulation, good legs and feet and plenty of substance. Her topline was a little loose on the move today and she was not as steady either coming or going as first, making her movement more difficult to assess. Nevertheless, much to like and presented in good order.

Golden Retriever Puppy

1st, BP Seamons & Beeson’s Messano Sweetness and Light Attractive 9 month old bitch who immediately appealed for her correct outline and overall balance. Lovely head with balanced skull and foreface, dark soft eye and correctly pigmented nose, all combining to give the typical gentle expression of the breed. Good length of neck flowing into correctly laid shoulders. Well boned throughout with good legs and neat, well padded feet. Deep through the body with ribs carried well back to a short, strong loin. Held her topline well both standing and on the move and carried her tail correctly. Moved steady and true, covering the ground well and maintaining her shape throughout. A very promising youngster with much to like. Pleased to award her Best Puppy.

2nd Woodhouse’s Lamancha Voyager 11 month old male at that slightly in-between stage of development and not quite as together as the winner today. Good for substance and presented in beautiful condition. Classic head and expression with a dark eye and kind outlook. Clean through neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Well boned throughout with good depth to chest and ribs extending well back to a short loin. Good width through thighs and correct moderate angulation. Moved out well but not quite as true as first today, and although his tail was correctly set on, he carried it a shade high at times. Nevertheless, a quality youngster with plenty of promise.

1st Poile & Blackboro’s Cherrimar Electra 18 month old bitch who presented a typical, balanced outline. Attractive head with a lovely gentle expression, dark eye and good pigment. Powerful neck flowing into correctly laid shoulders, ensuring correct placement of the forelegs beneath her body. Well boned and well bodied throughout, standing on good legs and feet. Held her topline at all times and presented a pleasing overall picture. Moved better in profile than coming towards and going away today, where she was not quite as accurate, but nevertheless a quality bitch with much to like.

1st Wheeldon & Hurray’s Dewmist Dolce Vita with Catnnels (Imp SWE) JW Another 18 month old bitch who won this class on her positive and accurate movement. Good in profile, showing the type, balance and substance, I was looking for. Correct head with a kind expression, good neck and forehand assembly and a firm, level topline. Well boned legs and neat feet. Correct ribbing with sufficient spring and depth, carried well back. Well muscled rear quarters with good width to thighs, short hocks and correct turn of stifle. Moved out positively and accurately, making full use of her construction and maintaining her outline throughout, which ultimately secured her the class.

1st Poile & Blackboro’s Cherrimar Electra Repeat of Junior Having been in the previous 2 classes, she appeared more settled here and moved with greater fluency and accuracy. Combined with her condition and presentation, this secured her the class win.

2nd Fleet’s Waterbabies Kalakuta to Eastbury (Imp ITA) Beautiful bitch who unfortunately was carrying more weight than I would ideally like today, which impacted somewhat on her outline and overall balance. Nevertheless, she possesses many quality attributes. Classic head with the lovely gentle expression so typical of the breed and good pigmentation throughout. Presented in a lovely coat and standing on well boned legs with neat, well padded feet. Moved fairly well and carried her correctly set tail to advantage. On another day, in slightly fitter condition, she may well have pushed harder.

1st, RBOB Poile’s Thornywiat Starshine at Cherrimar Fully mature bitch showing excellent breed type and overall balance. Nothing exaggerated and everything fitting together as it should. Correct through head with a soft expression, good neck flowing into well laid shoulders and a strong, level topline. Well bodied with correct depth of chest and ribs carried well back, short coupled and muscular throughout. Good width through first and second thighs and shown in a lovely coat and condition. 2nd Fleet & Webb’s Waterbabies Sonic Boom to Eastbury and Hectson (Imp ITA) 4 yr old male who was heavier throughout and did not present quite the balanced profile of the winner today. Good head with the correct kind expression and pleasing breed type. Held his topline standing and on the move. Fore and aft angulation were well matched, and he carried good substance throughout. Moved soundly enough despite the warm conditions and showed himself well but could not match the overall balance and movement of first.

1st, BOB, BVIG, RBVIS Roper’s Catnnels Inside Story for Brensham SGWC VW What a pleasure it was to judge this wonderful 11 yr old gentleman today. He really pulled out all the stops and showed many of the younger dogs exactly how it should be done. Quite clearly neither showing nor feeling his years, he was in absolutely superb form throughout the day. Beautiful head with the darkest of eyes, still carrying excellent pigmentation and retaining the kind, gentle expression so typical of the breed. Presented in really good coat and outstanding body condition. Put together so well throughout, his construction exemplifies balance and soundness. Like a well oiled machine, everything fits together and works together. Strong muscular neck flowing into correctly laid shoulders, good forechest, ample bone and neat, well padded feet. Deep through the body with well sprung ribs carried well back to a short, strong loin. Well muscled quarters with excellent width to first and second thighs, low hocks and balanced angulation fore and aft. He moved as though he could happily go on all day, covering the ground with effortless accuracy and purpose whilst holding his outline at all times. Straight and true coming and going, with drive from behind and correct tail carriage, he never stopped giving his all. Owners should be immensely proud of the condition in which this lovely dog is maintained. A tremendous ambassador for the breed and fully deserving of his Best of Breed, Best Veteran in Group and ultimately Reserve Best Veteran in Show awards.

1st, BP, RBOB Tyler’s Sassjend Jessica Rabbit 6 month old liver bitch at her very first show and what a promising youngster she is. Presented a lovely balanced outline, helped greatly by being shown in excellent condition and not carrying excess weight. Attractive head with defined stop, correct ear and eye placement and pleasing balance between skull and muzzle, with sufficient flew. Clean neck flowing into long, well laid shoulders, with corresponding return of upper arm placing her forelegs correctly beneath her body. Well boned throughout with round, compact feet. Chest of correct depth and width for her age, already showing good spring of rib. Level topline and a well developed rear assembly, with a correctly set otter tail which she carried well. Good turn of stifle and low hocks allowed her to move out positively with drive and a pleasing side gait. A very promising youngster and one to watch for the future. Delighted to award her Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Seymour’s Gallybob Xanthus 8 month old yellow male who also appealed greatly in outline and overall balance, being presented in fit condition. Good width to skull with correctly placed eye and well set ears giving a typical Labrador expression. Strong neck flowing into well laid shoulders, ensuring his legs were correctly positioned beneath him. Correct bone and good feet. Well ribbed with good spring, level topline and a short strong loin. Well developed rear quarters with good muscle and balanced angulation. Moved out well, although a little close behind today and carrying his tail slightly higher than ideal at times, despite it being correctly set. A quality youngster with much to admire.

Labrador Retriever Limit

1st Shakeshaft’s Sandhaven Caribbean Queen 2 yr old yellow bitch who presented a fairly balanced picture overall. For me, carrying a little more condition than ideal which detracted slightly from her outline and balance. Nevertheless, she has much to like. Appealing head with the kind expression so typical of the breed. Good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, level topline and correct rear assembly with well set tail. Deep chest with well sprung ribs carried well back. Balanced angulation fore and aft and moved out soundly, maintaining her shape throughout.

Labrador Retriever Open

1st, BOB Davis’ Rochevale Palm Reader JW Quality black bitch who, through her excellent weight and hard condition, presented the best overall outline in the breed today. Beautifully balanced head with dark eye, defined stop, good muzzle and sufficient flew, all combining to give a typical Labrador expression. Powerful neck flowing into long, well laid shoulders with equal return of upper arm, allowing the forward reach called for in the breed. Excellent depth and width throughout the body, with well sprung barrel ribs extending well back to a broad, powerful loin. Strongly muscled rear quarters with angulation in balance with her forehand, low hocks and well boned legs. Moved with balance, power and precision, covering the ground efficiently whilst maintaining her topline and using her otter tail correctly. Her combination of breed type, condition and sound, accurate movement made her a very worthy Best of Breed winner.

1st, BP Keely’s Alhambian’s Sally Traffic Attractive 10 month old bitch who appealed immediately for her compact, balanced outline. Coat in good condition and developing well for her age. Good head with the beginnings of the work and quality expected in the breed, slightly rounded skull with fluting between the eyes and good balance between skull and foreface. Eye still darkening but already giving a pleasing expression, complemented by good lobular feathered ears. Good length of neck with a slight arch flowing into sloping, well laid shoulders. Well boned throughout with tight, compact feet. Good depth to chest and spring of rib for her age and holding a strong, level topline both standing and on the move. Moderate rear angulation with muscle developing well through first and second thighs. Correct tail set and carriage. Moved out with the free, positive and typical Springer action I was looking for. Delighted to award her Best Puppy.

English Springer Spaniel Special Yearling

1st Briggs’ Dexbenella Believin A Dream 21 month old bitch who presented a pleasing, balanced outline. Not quite the balance in head of the Puppy winner, being a little longer in muzzle, but nevertheless a typical Springer with much to admire. Good through neck and shoulders with well boned legs and compact feet. Held her topline fairly well throughout. Correct depth to chest with good spring and length of rib carried back to a strong loin. Angulation fore and aft nicely balanced. Unfortunately paced for much of the class as she was being moved at a slower speed than suited her, meaning she never quite settled into her typical gait. Nevertheless, her overall construction and breed type are pleasing.

English Springer Spaniel Limit

1st, RBOB Proctor’s Forgespring Nobody’s Fool at Blissenbea JW 2 yr old bitch whom I liked a great deal and found to be very typical throughout. Presented the outline expected of the breed, with good balance of skull and muzzle, pleasing work in head, dark eye and correct ears. Shown in a good coat with the correct feathering. Muscular neck flowing into well laid, sloping shoulders. Well boned, straight forelegs and good feet. Well ribbed with the correct spring and short coupled body. Rear well muscled and balanced to the front assembly. Moved with good reach and drive in a typical Springer gait, carrying her tail correctly throughout. A quality bitch who was a worthy Reserve Best of Breed winner.

1st, BOB, Group 1 Keely’s Khaleesi De Les Tres Llacunes with Alhambian (Imp Esp) Really liked this bitch and found her very typical in all aspects. Nothing overdone, everything moderate and fitting together exactly as it should. Beautiful in head with good eye, ears and muzzle producing a classic breed expression. Clean through neck flowing into a sound forehand assembly with well laid shoulders. Excellent balance of depth and length to body, with correct ribbing and loin giving the compact outline called for in the breed. Moderate rear angulation complementing the front assembly, with sufficient muscle throughout to allow effortless movement. Moved freely and accurately, maintaining her outline and producing the easy, flowing action I was looking for. Her combination of overall breed type, balance and sound, effortless movement made her a worthy Best of Breed winner and ultimately a convincing winner of the Gundog Group.

2nd Osbourne’s Tiroen Typically Braego (KCJ) Another appealing bitch with much to like. Good through head, neck and shoulders with a typical expression. Slightly lighter in bone throughout and just a little throaty when compared with the winner. Balanced angulation fore and aft, in excellent body condition and presented in a lovely coat with good feathering. Good rear assembly and a correctly set and carried tail. Moved well and showed herself to advantage but could not quite match the overall balance and breed type of first today.

1st, BOB Fisher & Burchmore’s Lenamore On the Rocks with Fonntanelli (AI) Lovely bitch of almost 2 yrs who is maturing beautifully and presents a very typical picture. Shown in a fabulous flat silky coat of rich red and pearly white with clean, attractive markings. Loved her outline, balanced throughout and presenting the compact proportions called for in the breed. Attractive head with slight dome to skull, defined stop and good chiselling below the eyes. Balanced foreface, dark eye and small, well placed ears completed the typical soft expression. Muscular neck of good length flowing smoothly into well laid shoulders and a firm topline. Good forehand assembly with well boned legs and neat round feet. Balanced body proportions with deep chest, well sprung ribs and a muscular loin, all contributing to her compact outline. Rear well muscled with good width to first and second thighs and angulation matching her forehand. Moved with a smooth, flowing action, covering the ground effortlessly whilst maintaining her shape throughout. A quality bitch whom I was pleased to award Best of Breed.

Welsh Springer Spaniel Limit

1st, RBOB Bennett’s Gilstonia Wreck It Riley for Flyboron Just over 2 yr old male who presented a pleasing outline and a very typical overall picture. Classic head with dark eye and soft expression. Balanced throughout and shown in lovely coat and condition. Good through neck and shoulders with correct forehand construction, ample bone and neat feet. Well bodied with good depth to chest, ribs carried well back and a strong loin. The better mover of the two in this class, covering the ground positively and maintaining his outline. Although he could not quite match the reach and overall flow of the Best of Breed winner, he fully deserved Reserve Best of Breed today.

2nd Cooper & Mullin’s Gilstonia Maggie May 2 yr old bitch who was not quite as typical in outline as the winner, appearing a shade higher in the rear. Nevertheless, she had much to admire. Lovely head with a pleasing expression, shown in a super coat and excellent condition. Well bodied and of good substance throughout. Unfortunately, she was a little wide in front and close behind on the move today, which affected her overall performance. A quality bitch with many virtues.

Welsh Springer Spaniel Open

1st Cooper’s Gilstonia Snow Moon 5 yr old bitch and, on checking the catalogue, I see she is the mother of both exhibits in the Limit class. Very much the family likeness evident in head and expression. Lovely head with good chiselling and a soft, typical expression. Reachy muscular neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Well boned throughout with neat cat-like feet. Similar topline to her daughter, being slightly higher over the rear. Balanced height to length proportions giving the compact outline required in the breed. Good rear assembly with muscular thighs. Moved a little close behind at times but covered the ground well and showed herself steadily throughout.

1st, RBNSC Lagotto Romagnolo Goodchild’s Arcticbreeze Kiss N Tell at Kingsfleet Lovely 14 month old bitch presenting the square outline so typical of the breed. Shown in a coat of correct woolly texture which was pleasingly not over presented. Balanced throughout with correct proportions. Head of good breadth and length with the slightly shorter muzzle called for in the standard and a large well developed nose. Well developed brows, eye of good shape and colour and correctly set ears of good size all combining to give a typical expression. Muscular, fairly short neck with slight arch flowing into laid back shoulders and an equal upper arm. Good legs, correct bone and round feet. Body proportions in balance, with height to length ratio correct, topline gently falling towards the croup and correct tail set. Brisket reaching elbow with slight tuck up. Rear quarters well developed with good width to thigh and long second thigh. Carrying a shade more rear angulation than fore and slightly longer rear toes than ideal. Moved out well showing plenty of drive and purpose. A very promising young bitch and worthy of Reserve Best AVNSC.

AVNSC Limit

Italian Spinone 1st Munro’s Talpalupo Monello White and orange bitch of 4 yrs who presented a very typical picture of the breed. Attractive head showing the correct divergent planes, with pronounced occiput, visible median line, large spongy nose and good depth of flew. Large expressive eyes and low carried ears completing the characteristic expression. Strong, well muscled neck flowing into well laid shoulders which were correctly set apart. Equal return of upper arm ensuring correct foreleg placement beneath the body. Strong oval bone with well defined tendons and large round feet. Correct, unexaggerated topline with the slight rise over the loin that is characteristic of the breed. Deep chest with good prosternum and well sprung ribs carried well back. Muscular thighs, correct bend of stifle and strong pasterns. Moved with the typical effortless fast trot of the breed, maintaining her outline and covering the ground well.

Irish Red and White Setter 1st, BNSC, Group 2 McDonald’s Sh Ch Roanjora Cremant D’Alsace JW 3 yr old bitch who appealed greatly for her overall type and balance from the moment she entered the ring. When stacked she presents the correct proportions and a very typical outline. Head of good breadth with slight dome to skull, eye of correct shape and colour and well placed ears. Balanced muzzle with sufficient flew and correct shape, all combining to give a lovely soft expression. Neck showing both strength and length with a slight arch, flowing smoothly into well laid shoulders. Well boned throughout with good feet and excellent muscle tone. Deep chest with well sprung ribs and a strong body. Good topline continuing through to the croup and correctly set tail which she carried well. Powerful rear quarters with muscular thighs, well bent stifles and short hocks. Drove strongly from behind on an effortless ground covering stride, eating up the ring whilst maintaining her outline throughout. A quality bitch, and worthy Show Champion who combined breed type, balance and movement and was a deserving Best AVNSC Gundog winner and later Group 2.

Braque d’Auvergne 1st Sladden’s Khyannes Villette at Canemamans ShCEx (Imp HUN) 7 yr old bitch who presented a lovely, balanced picture and was shown in super fit condition, wearing a glossy short coat that enhanced her outline. Attractive head with the slight divergence between skull and muzzle called for in the breed. Skull just a little longer than muzzle, moderate stop, good nose and large oval eye of pleasing colour. Well set ears with good leathers completed a typical and appealing expression. Neck of good length with slight arch and correct dewlap, flowing into muscular shoulders with good layback and corresponding return of upper arm. Well boned throughout with strong legs and neat oval feet. Correct proportions, being slightly longer in body than tall, with depth to chest approximately half her height. Brisket reaching the elbow, ribs extending well back with moderate spring and a slight rise to the underline. Strong topline held level from withers to croup, which fell away correctly to a well set and carried tail. Well angulated behind with muscular first and second thighs and short hocks. Moved straight and true in both directions, making full use of her construction and maintaining her outline throughout. A quality example of the breed presented in excellent condition and showing herself to advantage at all times.

Good head with correct length and breadth, prominent occiput, deep stop and well developed brow. Muzzle of correct length with sufficient depth of flew. Well placed eye of good colour and large ears of correct shape, well furnished and framing the head nicely. Powerful neck flowing into sloping shoulders. Well boned, muscular forelegs of correct length standing on large round feet. Long body with deep chest and well sprung ribs extending well back to a muscular loin. Rear already developing well with good width through the thighs, correct bend of stifle and short hocks. Presented in a beautiful coat of straight silky texture with appropriate feathering to chest and legs. Moved out with precision, driving from the rear and covering the ground with a true, steady action. A very promising youngster who must surely have a bright future ahead of him. She absolutely typifies the merry nature of the breed and never stopped showing herself. Well developed skull with distinct stop, dark eye carrying a cheeky glint and good chiselling beneath. Square muzzle of correct proportions and low set lobular ears, well covered with long silky feathering, completing a typical and appealing expression. Good length of neck with ample muscle flowing into well sloping shoulders. Well boned legs of correct length standing on thickly padded feet. Compact through the body with a strong topline, deep brisket and well sprung ribs carried back to a short loin. Rounded rump and correctly set tail, which was in constant motion throughout. Well bent stifles, muscular thighs and short hocks completed the picture. Moved around the ring with drive and enthusiasm, covering the ground effortlessly with the typical merry Cocker bustle that is so characteristic of the breed. Her continually wagging tail and obvious enjoyment of her job ensured she caught the eye throughout. A lovely veteran and a credit to her owner.

Clean through neck flowing into well laid shoulders with corresponding return of upper arm. Good depth to chest with ribs developing well and carried back to a short, strong loin. Wide, well muscled thighs with good bend of stifle completing a balanced picture. When she finally decided to cooperate on the move she showed the power, drive and effortless ground covering action I was looking for. I understand this award completed her Junior Warrant, so congratulations to all concerned. She certainly made her handler work hard for it today.
