Shropshire Gundog Society

Breed: Irish Setter, Gordon Setter & GWP

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this beautiful venue, the hospitality was superb and the weather was very hot and sunny. Thanks to my very capable stewards Jane & Gayle who kept things moving along nicely. Thanks also to the exhibitors who firstly entered and those who came on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far, your support to the society as well as the judges is appreciated.

Irish Setter Open

1st & BOB Harrison’s Clonageera Summer Dreams at Millpoint JW Appealing 2 year old bitch who presented a super outline. Classic long lean balanced head with lovely depth to muzzle. Dark soulful eyes and lovely low set ears . Muscular neck with slight arch flows into sloping shoulders. Good legs and bone down to neat small feet. Depth to chest and ribs carried well back to short loin. Topline slopes correctly from withers to tail which was well set and carried. Drove round the ring with a flowing easy stride. Wrapped in a lovely rich coat of moderate length.

2nd & RBOB Butler’s Anlory Sovereign at Rubymoon. Lovely boy and a close decision between him and the lovely bitch placed third. Presents a nice profile, good work in head and gentle expression. Didn’t flow quite as smoothly from neck into shoulders when stacked today. Good bone, good feet, deep chest and ribbed well back, correct angulation. Not quite the action of the winner today, possibly feeling the heat.

3rd Heather’s Sh Ch Sixoaks My Fair Lady JW

German Shorthaired Pointer Junior

1st & RBOB Gimbert’s Kazanpaul Parmaviolet 13 month old bitch, on the taller side but still balanced and well muscled throughout. Good in head with a pleasing expression, though I would prefer a little more forechest at this stage. Stood on neat feet, with good rear angulation. Moved well enough, although toed in coming towards and was a little close behind today, which detracted slightly.

Open

1st & BOB Thomas & Taylor’s Pingarypoint Puzzled at Knabynnus 6 year old bitch who presented a balanced, workmanlike outline. Good in head with well set ears and a pleasing expression. Well developed chest, with balanced angulation front and rear, and moved out well covering the ground. If I am being critical, she is perhaps a shade longer cast than ideal, but she made the most of herself today to take BOB.

2nd Whitehouse’s Kazanpaul Prawn Cracker AWB 5 year old bitch who was not quite the same in head qualities as 1st and a little finer in bone for my preference. Nevertheless, she was in good body condition with excellent muscle tone and has a good rear which she used well on the move.

Gordon Setter Open

1st & BOB Butler’s Sh Ch Red Admiral by Rubymoon JW A lovely male who was clearly feeling the heat today which affected his performance, and he was crabbing a little on the move so not showing himself to advantage. When stacked he presented a real picture of power, with super substance and lovely quality bone. Shown in a cracking coat with clean markings. Appealed in head with good ears and dark eye. Excellent depth of chest with good forechest, ribs well sprung and carried back to a short loin, and a correct tail completing the outline. Plenty to like here.
