Firstly, I would like to thank exhibitors for my fabulous entry of 67 at this well-established and prestigious show. I was absolutely delighted. To those of you who travelled quite some distance to be there, thanks again.

It was such a pleasure to go over your lovely cockers and the time and effort that you put into getting your dogs ‘show ready’ did not go unnoticed. Thank you for accepting my decisions with good grace and for being so sporting with and supportive of your fellow exhibitors, that also didn’t go unnoticed and it was good to see. You all did our wonderful breed proud. There were some close decisions but I was delighted with my 3 main winners.

I’m pleased to note that I found no incorrect bites and teeth were clean. I’m also pleased to note that tails, in the main, were as they should be, merry and carried level.

Finally, thanks to Officers and Committee of Royal Cheshire for the opportunity to judge at this well-organised and well-run show. Not forgetting my super stewards Tina and John who did a great job and ensured that the ring ran smoothly on the day. It was a pleasure to work with you.

1st Saunders, Mrs S - AYLESMEAD JUST THE TIKKIT AT OXFORDOGS (D) 10 months LB/R 

A very appealing boy who entered the ring full of confidence and swagger for one so young. Well balanced and square with a level topline. Lovely head with a square muzzle and distinct stop. Gentle expression with a hint of mischief. Full of promise. So merry and true on the move. Delighted to award him Best Puppy. 

2nd Mason, Miss J - SANDLAUGA BAILEY’S ON ICE (B) 7 months LB/R&T

Such a sweet girl with tan markings in all the right places. Pleasing outline when stacked. The richness and symmetry of her tan eye pips framed her headpiece which gave this youngster added appeal and complimented her melting expression. Like 1, full of promise. Very merry on the move with an ever-wagging tail. She was slightly out-shone today by the exuberance of the winner.

1st Walton, Mrs S - CHATAWAY LET’S JIVE JW (D) 17 months B

Much to like about this youngster. He immediately caught my eye on entering the ring as he was full of lively energy and joy with a ‘look-at-me’ touch of sparkle. He was wearing his best jacket which was gleaming in the sunshine. It was hard to take my eyes off him. Well balanced and square when stacked with a level topline, giving him a very pleasing outline. A lovely head with a square muzzle and a distinct stop. He had a most endearing expression, with a glint of mischief. He did not disappoint when going over him and on the move. Delighted to award him Best of Breed and even more delighted when he was later awarded Reserve Best Gundog under Judge Frank Whyte.

2nd Thomas, Mrs P J - CRINCOED HIGHER LOVE (B) 13 months LB/R

A delightful girl that took my eye when she entered the ring, just as the winner did. She was brimming with confidence and wagging her tail merrily with a whole-body expression. Well balanced and square, giving her a lovely outline when stacked. She has a most appealing feminine head with a soft sweet look. Straight, well boned legs, good spring of rib and super level topline. Much to admire at this stage and full of promise. Unlucky to meet the class winner today.

1st Hirst, Mrs P - MANLINSON DOTTY DOT (B) 21 months DB/R

Lots to like about this lovely girl who caught my eye in the line-up. Balanced and square with a super level topline. Good front and rear angulation. Very appealing head and soft expression. Was not disappointed when going over her. Well presented with a flat silky coat in good condition. Merry and true on the move, maintained her level topline and correct tail carriage.

2nd Morris, Miss C - RIONDEL MASQUERADE IN BLU (B) 19 months DB/R

Another lovely girl, close up to the class winner. Balanced, square and compact outline. Square muzzle and distinct stop, soft appealing expression. Sturdy with plenty of bone and substance, ribs well sprung and well-rounded hindquarters. Sound on the move with a true gait. Just preferred the winner’s head and length of neck.

Lots to like about this lovely girl. Well balanced, square and compact outline. Such an appealing head, very feminine, well-proportioned with a square deep muzzle and a soft melting expression. Good front and rear angulation. Beautifully presented today, her coat in tip-top condition. Merry and true on the move. Whilst currently giving away a bit of hindquarter development to the class winner, this lovely youngster is maturing nicely and is full of promise.

This eye-catching girl entered the ring confidently with a keen demeanour and an ever-wagging tail, clearly at one with her handler. Pleasing square and balanced outline when stacked. Feminine head with a square muzzle and a soft gentle expression. Sturdy and compact body with well-sprung ribs and a firm level topline. Well presented in lovely coat and condition. Moved with a merry, typical driving action maintaining her topline.

2nd Leyland, Miss M - CRANKWOODS QUICK STEP JW (D) 2 years B

Close up to the class winner, this handsome boy also had a very pleasing outline when stacked. Well balanced head and gentle expression. Sturdy and muscular with a firm level topline, held on the move. A merry cocker with his ever-wagging tail. Moved with reach and drive. Presented in lovely condition. The winner’s keen demeanour tipped the scales in her favour on the day.

A sturdy and compact girl with good front and rear angulation. Very feminine head with a gentle appealing expression. Good width all through with well-sprung ribs and well-rounded hindquarters. Firm neat feet. Moved straight and true coming and going with an ever-wagging tail, plenty of reach and drive.

2nd Hughes, Ms A - GLANTRAETH SEA BREEZE (D) 2 years 7 months B/R

Sturdy, well balanced and square outline when stacked. A handsome masculine boy with a lovely head, square muzzle and distinct stop. Slightly longer neck than the winner. Muscular hindquarters and short below the hock, giving him plenty of drive. Super level topline and correct set-on of tail. On the move today, he was clearly proud of his tail. For me this spoilt his outline and balance.

3rd Walker, Miss S - RYALLCOURT ANGELICA PICKLE AT SPINDLESWAY

A very handsome boy that made an impression when he entered the ring with his eager busy attitude and ever-wagging tail. Whilst up to size, he was well balanced and square, with a level topline when stacked. Lovely masculine head with a square muzzle, distinct stop and gentle expression. Beautifully presented with a flat silky coat and well feathered in all the right places. Moved with drive and purpose.

2nd Beever, Mrs J - DANDYJAN DARK DEFENDER (D) 3 years 11 months B/R

Lovely boy with a pleasing, well balanced and compact outline when stacked. Soft-natured with a masculine head, square muzzle and expressive eyes. Moderate neck and good spring of rib. Matching front and rear angulation. Well rounded hind quarters, short below the hock. Preferred the overall demeanour and movement of the winner on the day.

A striking boy that took my eye when he entered the ring, wagging his tail merrily. When stacked he was balanced and square with good front and rear angulation. Beautifully presented with a flat silky coat, in lovely condition. Masculine head, square muzzle and a soft expression with a hint of mischief. Sturdy and strong with plenty of bone and substance. Shoulders sloping and fine, well sprung ribs. Muscular, well rounded hind quarters and short below hock giving him power and drive on the move. Had a busy and eager gait and was at one with his handler. Oodles of personality which won him the class. Delighted to award him Reserve Best of Breed today.

2nd Remington, J & S - ROZAMIE BLACK PEARL JESSREMJUL ShCEx (B) 4 years 11 months B

Such a lovely girl with a compact, well balanced and square outline when stacked. Pleasing head with a square muzzle and distinct stop framing her soft gentle eyes giving her an irresistibly sweet look. Sturdy with good spring of rib. Sufficiently short, well boned straight legs and neat firm feet. Muscular hindquarters and short below the hock. Presented in super condition with a beautiful flat silky coat that had a sheen which really caught the light. Moved true and merry holding her level topline. A picture of elegance in the ring.
