CORNWALL GUNDOG CLUB – 27.09.26

Thank you so much to the Officers and Committee for my invitation to judge at your lovely show. So sad I never got to meet Joy Baguley, but I made sure I wore a pink jacket in her memory.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries and the chance for me to go over your lovely dogs and a big thank you to Will Hoskin for stewarding for me today.

Critiques for Flat coated retrievers

Puppy (6,1a)

1 Morgan’s Pibboli Morveren of Morvah – 8 month old bitch, this puppy oozed breed type to me in a mixed class of puppies. She was more substantial in build than some but I couldn’t take my eyes of her. A lovely moulded head with brown eyes. A good reach of neck into correctly angulated shoulders. She has a good forechest and ample heart room. Good bone on straight forelegs, muscle tone excellent throughout, feathering on well set on tail which was carried perfectly whilst standing and on the move. Moved around the ring true fore and aft, best in the class – such a shame she didn’t stop for BPIS. BP

2 May’s Covenstead Whistleblower at Lussac – 6 month old dog, proportions just right for his age. Moderate broad head, correct eyes, well set on ears. Excellent reach of neck leading into a level topline kept whilst standing and on the move. Enough bone on straight forelegs and nice round feet. Feathering to come but muscle tone coming nicely and moved well round the ring.

Special Yearling (4,1a)

1 Jones’ Braemist Chase the Stars – 12 month old bitch, she stood out for me as soon as I saw her. She has a lovely moulded head with correct eyes giving a soft expression. Well balanced with a good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Front and rear angulations were correct which showed in her sound movement around the ring. Level topline , moderate turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Presented in excellent condition. BOB

2 May’s Covenstead Whistleblower at Lussac – Repeat from puppy class

Graduate (1,0a)

1 Holden’s Fairwinds Flowertot – 2 year old bitch, classic moulded head with brown eye, strong moderate length of neck leading into a level topline kept all the time. Enough bone and neat round feet. Enough coat with feathering on the tail which was carried a little high at times. Well let down hocks and moved well around the ring.

Limit (4,2a)

1 Cooves’ Benvellyn Nyanga at Draketor – 3 year old bitch, moulded head with brown eyes and well set on ears. Good reach of neck leading to a level topline. Tail just off the croup which I’d prefer a little higher. Enough forechest, round feet with well let down hocks. Moved the best out of the 2 in the class. RBOB

2 Mccammick’s Montegrino pied piper for Saffdales – 3 year old bitch, balanced in outline with better tail set than 1. Well moulded head, good strong neck leading to a level topline kept all the time. Good amount of bone with straight forelegs but front movement today let her down. Turn of stifle more than moderate but had well let down hocks and round feet.

Open (2,1a)

1 Cooves’ Pajanbeck I have a dream by Draketor – 6 year old bitch, moulded head, good reach of neck, level topline kept on the move too. Tail set a little low but carried well on the move. Fine boned, good heart room, just enough coat today. Moderate bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Moved well with its handler. Would benefit a tad more weight.
