Retriever (Labrador)

I would like to thank Annandale Canine Society for their kind invitation to judge Labradors at their open show and for the exhibitors for graciously accepting placements. 

Puppy (5)

1st – Parker’s Bruadarach Ballachulish

11-month-old chocolate dog. The most mature in the class, which was to be expected given his age. Presented in good coat and in well-muscled condition. He has well sized, neat feet. Good rear angulation with sufficient second thigh. Would have preferred slightly more length of upper arm. He moved well and covered sufficient ground. He has correct scissor bite, a nice ear set and gentle expression, but slightly light in the eye. BPIB

2nd – Smith’s Flyenpyg Swynona Ryder

6-month-old black bitch. Exceptionally well-schooled and well handled. Much smaller than 1, but all in proportion. In good coat of the correct texture and a well wrapped tail. Neat feet and good bone. Very pretty head with good ear set, expression and eye colour. Correct bite. Well angulated front and good spring of rib. Would prefer a touch more rear angulation. Moved well with drive but carried her tail high on the move which detracted from her overall outline. 

3rd – Neil’s Crawcraigs Tsar with Moloko

Junior (3, 1 abs)

1st – Mitchell’s Darmilye Dialga

15-month-old black bitch. A substantial bitch of good size. Very typical head – good length of muzzle, good ear set, correct eye shape and colour – all combining to provide a very gentle expression. Good length of neck and well-set shoulders. Sufficient bone with a good spring of rib. Short coupled with good angulation fore and aft. Presented in good coat, she provided a good outline on the stand and on the move. She moved cleanly and with drive. Would prefer neater feet. BOB

Post Graduate (4, 1abs)

1st – Maclean, Mitchell & Fisher’s Afinmore Alamosa

Chocolate bitch. This girl had left most of her coat at home today but had just enough to show correct coat. A very pretty head with good length of muzzle, correct eye shape and colour and correct bite. Lovely topline and tail carriage on the move and standing. Sufficient length of upper arm and lay of shoulder in front but would benefit from slightly more second thigh in the rear. Would prefer neater feet. Good bone and well sprung ribs. Preferred her movement and overall outline to 2nd. 

2nd – Mullet’s Seatallan Damson

Black dog – Masculine head with lovely eye colour to give a nice expression. He is a well bodied dog with good spring of rib, although slightly long in loin. Plenty of coat and a well wrapped tail that never stopped. Sufficient angulation fore and aft and a sound mover who covered the ground well. Neat feet and well boned legs. 

3rd – Yellowlees’s Exelby The Sovereigns Orb

1st – Collins’s Butebrae Wren of Vabisbrae

2.5-Year-old Black bitch. A very feminine bitch of a finer, working type build. Well-handled and well-schooled, she moved at one with her handler and covered ground with clean, efficient strides. She was presented in clean and well-muscled condition. Very feminine head with a gentle expression and correct eye colour. Sufficient angulation both fore and aft and enough spring of rib for her frame. Somewhat lacking in coat on the day, but sufficient coat to demonstrate correct texture. 

2nd – Yellowlees’s Exelby The Sovereigns Orb 

2-Year-old Chocolate dog. This boy was very full of himself today and was giving his handler a hard time. Unfortunately, this meant he was difficult to assess both hands on and on the move. Very strong head. He did not move to his advantage today and was unfortunately carrying too much weight on the day. Good front assembly but would benefit from more angulation on the rear. Plenty of coat, well wrapped tail and well sprung ribs.  

Open (5, 1 abs, 1 wd)

1st – Maclean’s Afinmore Alyxia

Chocolate bitch in full coat, and in well-muscled condition. Correct rear angulation, would have preferred a touch more upper arm in front. Strong neck and lovely level topline with a well-set tail. Well sprung ribs and short coupled. Well-boned with neat feet. Good mover who covered sufficient ground with minimal effort. Held her topline well in profile and on the move. Correct scissor bite, good eye colour and shape and good ear placement in a feminine head. Just slightly finer in the head than the BOB winner. RBOB

2nd – Parker’s Bruadarach Baile Eilidh

Chocolate bitch. Unfortunately carrying too much weight today for her frame. Sufficient angulation fore and aft and she moved cleanly, covering the ground. Presented in good coat and has a well wrapped tail. Longer in loin than 1 although still with sufficient spring of rib, and not quite as balanced in profile. Neat, compact feet.,
