Plymouth and District Kennel Association – Toy Critique

Thank you to the Committee for inviting me to judge the Toy Group at this show. It was lovely to have the toys in the rear hall, especially for the new promising youngsters coming up. Thank you to the exhibitors for your entry and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a pleasure to judge this group. 

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Puppy 3/2a

1st Lewis’ Carleeto Ginger Rogers BP

Beautiful ruby puppy with level topline and well set tail. Pleasing head, well filled below the eyes, fairly flat between the ears which have good fringing for age. Moved confidently around the ring. 

Post Graduate 4/2a

1st Hawkin’s Loxody’s Legacy 14m old Blenheim male, very masculine in appearance, well proportioned head, with lovely dark eyes, giving the typical expression. Moved well round the ring, would like to see him firm up behind. 

2nd Lewis’ Carleeto Red Velvet JW Well constructed ruby bitch, pleasing head with round dark eyes. Ears well fringed. Moved well in front. 

Limit 2

1st Lewis’ Carleeto Black Velvet JW RBOB Lovely black and tan bitch, with good topline and tail set. Head well proportioned, eyes dark and well set. Good length of muzzle and correct stop. Good length of neck correctly set into the shoulders. Moved well. 

2nd Hawkin’s Lexody’s Serenity 14m Blenheim bitch, my notes say delightful head, correctly proportioned. Struggled to she her moved today as she bounced round the ring!

1st Lewis’ Vina Minnelli Du Chateau Noblesse Mit Carleeto JW(Imp DEU) BOB 3 year old ruby with the prettiest of heads, very feminine, lovely dark eyes well set in the skull. Good length of neck correctly set in her shoulders giving a lovely outline. Excelled on the moved from all angles. 

Japanese Chin Graduate 1

1st Skinner’s Somergemz Mister Tibbes BOB 14m b/w male. Head large in proportion to body, shoulder well set and carried well. Eyes well set, with typical expression, ears correct, nose turned up, moved well round the ring. 

Pug Graduate 2

1st Kelsall’s Kelbrend Mister Marmalade JW RBOB 20m cobby fawn male. Moved with typical rolling gait, ribs well sprung, topline maintained on the move. Movement was positive. 

2nd Kelsall’s Flaikwell Damson Jam Smaller 6yo bitch, pushed hard for this class, but she was out moved by her kennel mate. Lovely neck into well laid shoulders, and maintaining a level topline on the move. Good head with large nostrils 

Open 2

1st Kelsall’s Kelbrend Dreamy Duchess BOB 3yo fawn bitch with good spring of rib and correct gait. Head well proportioned, with large round eyes, giving a lovely expression, nostrils well open. 

2nd Kelsall’s Kelbrend Peach Conserve, hard to go over on the table. Head in proportion to her body. Moved with correct gait, but I could hear her breathing. 

Miniature Pinscher Graduate 2/1a

1st Crouch’s Hawksflight Seeing Stars BOB/BP PG3 10m Well balanced little dog with correct jacket and correct hackneyed action. Well balanced elongated head, oval eyes and correct pigmentation. Good neck into maintained level topline and correct tail set. 

Chinese Crested Open 2/1a

1st Lock’s Chestnutcres Beam Me Up BOB Head of good proportions with flat and broad muzzle, almond eyes. Ears placed in line with the eyes and held erect. Moved well from all directions. 

English Toy Terrier Graduate 2

1st Frances’ Witchstone High Spirits of Peopleton Larger boy, well proportioned, with long neck , good topline and moved with the action of a horse in extended trot. Head, long and narrow, almond shaped eyes and correct ears. 

2nd Dicker’s Neerodan Last Crusade smaller with less exaggerated movement. Moved parallel fore and aft. Ears well set and correct shape. Head long and narrow with shallow stop. Correct dentition. 

Open 6 The largest class of the day and of good quality. 

1st Dicker’s Neerodan Thyme Bomb BOB & G3 Well proportioned dog of correct size, with lovely extended gait. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Topline maintained on the move, tail carried correctly. Head long and narrow with good dentition, ears correctly set and candle flame shaped. 

2nd Warren’s Pedara The World is Mine RBOB I wish this 8year old had been in the AV Veteran Class as would have won it on movement alone, was very close between 1 and 2 and much the same could be said. Just lost out in the final stand. 

3rd Philip’s Ettology Worth the Wait BP 

Chihuahua (long coat) Graduate 3/1a

1st Conibere’s Frapachi Going for Gold at Adama 10m old with correct dome to head, well set dark eyes. Good neck and shoulder and maintained topline on the move. Moved with a brisk gait.

2nd Skinner’s Chantaydan the Legacy 6m old baby, very raw, good head with dome. Eyes correctly placed level with stop. Needs time to settle. 

Limit 2

1st Skinner’s Mujerosa Miss Tooty Fruity RBOB/BP 10mi fawn bitch, with head of lovely proportions, eyes correctly set and appealing. Well laid shoulder leading to level topline. Excellent rear angulation which enabled her to move with drive.

2nd Skinner’s Mujerosa A Little Tipple 10m tri male. Good head and expression. Smaller than 1. Preferred the movement of 1.

1st Skinner’s Mujerosa Lucky For Me JW BOB 3yo fawn male who moved briskly and with purpose round the ring. Couldn’t deny him BOB, Lovely head of correct proportions, apple domed, dark eye correctly placed in the skull, well placed ears with good coat. 

Chihuahua (Smooth coat) Graduate 4/2a 

1st Stanbury’s Yorone Too Timer via Inixia RBOB/BP 11m old male of good overall proportions. Correctly domed head, good bite, eyes well set, ears erect and correctly set, correct stop. Medium length of neck in well set shoulders, topline held on the move, Moved briskly round the ring. PG2

2nd Poyner’s Anadeia Faelwyn Correctly proportioned head with good stop. Eyes well placed, ears well set. Good length of neck. Reluctant to move freely today. 

Open 4/1a

1st Poyner’s Andeia Ovation for Mikichi BOB Lovely fawn boy 4yo with pleasing overall proportions. Apple domed head with correctly set eyes and ears, good stop and correct bite. Moved briskly round the ring, maintaining level topline. 

2nd Stanbury’s Bratila Bespoke in Black for Inixia 11m Well proportioned head and enchanting expression, good bite and stop. Was a bit flat in movement today. 

Pomeranian Puppy 2

1st Lovell’s Pawsamy’s Blue For You RBOB/BP 9m old in good coat, already with good spring of rib, short coupled. Moved true with good angulation giving drive from behind. Pleasing head with dark eyes and well pigmented, good stop and fine muzzle. PG4

2nd French’s Bincombefarm The Hippogriff another promising youngster, I have seen them change places on many occasions, and all that I’ve said about 1 is true of 2, just didn’t quite sparkle as much today. 

Junior 2

1st Lovell’s Pawsamy’s Eyes for You 9m litter brother to 1st in puppy. Another quality puppy from this kennel, his brother just had the edge on movement today. 

2nd French’s Bincombfarm The Demguise 10m old bitch, correct head with fine muzzle, eyes and pigment dark. Wasn’t enjoying the hall today and this showed in her movement. 

Post Graduate 1

1st Lovell’s Pawsamy’s Hank Summer Dream 2yo with good coat. Head of correct proportions with good stop and dentition. Short coupled with a well rounded body. Moved well.  

Open 2

1st French’s Norvanik Shout Out at Bincombefarm this 17m youngster owns the ring a true extrovert. Head correctly proportioned, dark eyes and pigment, neck short and well set into shoulders, giving the typical round shape. Moved true and powered round the ring on small cat like feet. A pleasure to award him G1. 

2nd Lovell’s Pawsamy’s Rose JW 4yo bitch not in her full coat. Head correctly proportioned, set on a short neck into good shoulders. Moved well round the ring. 

ANNSC Graduate 3/1a

1st Thatcher’s Devonia’s Florence 3 year old Bolognaise. Head with wide flat skull, large, dark round eyes, high set ears. Well laid shoulders with straight forelegs. Moved with drive from well angulated rear . In lovely coat RBOB

2nd Green’s Newtonians One Who Wandered Griffon Bruxellois. 12m Good rounded head, with correct bite. Dark round eyes and high set tipped ears. Moved with drive maintaining level topline and correct tail carriage. 

Open 4/3a

1st Thatcher’s Kobabyau Pelyhes Odin with Devonia (Imp Hun) 5 yo appears square, with correct coat. Head with wide flat skull, longer than muzzle. Large dark eyes, well pigmented throughout. Ears well set. Good neck and shoulder, moved with drive. True fore and aft. BOB. 

2nd Lane’s Starleisha Prada Paws Good head with correct proportions. Dark eyes and well set ears, correct bite. Slight rise to topline over loin, maintained on the move. Well coated, with correct pigmentation.

1st Lovell’s Pawsamy’s Sweet William 4yo orange boy in good coat. Pleasing head with well set ears, dark eyes and good bite. Well-rounded body. Moved well. 

2nd French’s Norvanik Shout Out at Bincombefarm This one had a change of handler and wasn’t shown to his full advantage.

1st Lane’s Ch Starleisha Midnight Kiss ShCEx VW 7 yo Havanese, correctly proportioned head with dark eyes giving a gentle expression. Well pigmented. Moved true and with drive maintaining correct topline with rise over the loin. Tail held correctly, in fabulous coat and condition. 

2nd Skinner’s Tyssul Zafira JW ShCEx, OSW 8yo fawn long coat chihuahua, correct head with large well set eyes, good bite. Medium neck into well laid shoulders, topline maintained as she moved briskly round the ring. 

3rd Hawkins’ Pendralier Phenomenal
