Sealyham Terrier Breeders Association Open Show Critique

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge your open show and to my stewards who helped run the ring efficiently and created a friendly atmosphere for the exhibitors. Club shows held in conjunction with championship shows have a lot of benefits but can also make for a very long day for the dogs and exhibitors. I really appreciate all of the exhibitors who entered and stayed to support.

Minor Puppy Dog or Bitch (1, 0 Absent)

1. Oulton & Coetzee’s Whooperhill Love Story. 8 month old bitch, very promising puppy well presented in good coat. Of correct size for her age. Clean head with a dark eye, good ear set and correct dentition. Balanced front and rear angulation and neat elbows which was reflected in lovely movement in profile with a level topline and correct tail set and carriage. Best Puppy in Show. 

Junior Dog (1, 0 Absent)

1. Hampsons’ Kamryan Meraviglioso Mario. 14 months old and still needs time to mature in body and coat but plenty to like about this dog. Good length of head with a strong jaw, dark well set eye and good ear set and shape. Good reach of neck into a level topline. Good depth of chest, would like more width throughout but this should come with age. 

Novice Dog (1. 0 Absent)

1. Hampsons’ Kamryan Meraviglioso Mario. 1st in Junior. 

Graduate Dog (1, 0 Absent)

1. Salmons’ Obi Wan Kenobi Of Kindergarten At Seasmolt (Imp HUN). Well presented in good coat. Moderate size with enough bone. Would like a bit more length of head but balanced with a strong jaw. Level topline and correct tail set and carriage. Ribs well sprung with good depth and width throughout. Moved well all ways. 

Open Dog (1, 0 Absent)

1. Franassovici’s Whooperhill Kings Ransom. Mature, masculine dog. Presented in excellent coat. Well muscled which was reflected in powerful movement with plenty of drive. Pleasing head and expression with dark eye and good ear set. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Good bone, excellent front and rear angulation with chest well let down and ribs well sprung. Medium length body with a level topline and good tail set. Best Dog, Best in Show. 

Veteran Dog or Bitch (4, 2 Absent)

1. Evans’ Ch Nileda Our Mutual Friend. 9 year old dog showing no signs of his age and still in excellent condition. Moved with plenty of drive and could easily keep up with the youngsters. Just a bit out of coat on the day. Long, clean head with a slightly domed skull and strong jaw. Good depth and spring of ribs and correct angulation throughout with plenty of forechest. Ribbed well back and tail set in line with back. Reserve Best Dog, Reserve Best in Show, Best Veteran in Show. 

2. Courtney-Warren’s Bullbrit Shady Lady Of Nunneley. Feminine and of moderate size with good bone. Straighter angulation than the winner but balanced. Level topline and well sprung ribs. Moved well, would just prefer a slightly higher tail set. 

Junior Bitch (2, 0 Absent)

1. Oulton & Coetzee’s Whooperhill Love Story. 1st in Minor Puppy Dog or Bitch. 

2. Salmons’ Seasmolt Raspberry Ruffle. Feminine head, dark eye and good expression. Strong neck and level topline with good spring of rib, just preferred the angulation and tail set of the winner. Coat of good texture and well presented. Moved well when settled. 

Graduate Bitch (2, 1 Absent)

1. Courtney-Warren’s Magembay Muchova Of Nunneley. Clean head of good proportions, dark eye, correct dentition and good ear set and shape. Enough bone and ribbed well back with a level topline. Balanced front and rear angulation and moved well with good tail set and carriage. 

Limit Bitch (2, 0 Absent)

1. Mersen’s Magembay Monnet. Clean, feminine head with a dark, well set eye. Muscular neck into well laid shoulder. Good bone and depth of chest. Neat elbows and ribs well sprung with a strong topline. Good breed type in profile, both in standing and on the move. Reserve Best Bitch. 

2. Flower’s Dionaha Winnie. Head of good length with a strong jaw and medium-sized ears set well. Good length of neck with well laid shoulder and level topline. Tail set well. Well sprung ribs but preferred the depth of the winner and elbows could be neater. 

Open Bitch (3, 1 Absent)

1. Oulton & Coetzee’s Am Ch Whooperhill American Celebration (Imp USA). Another beautifully presented dog from this kennel in excellent coat. Head of good proportions with slightly domed skull, strong jaw and correct bite, would just prefer slightly cleaner cheeks. Strong neck of adequate length and well laid shoulder with correct topline and tail set. Good bone and plenty of forechest, of moderate size and length. Moved with plenty of drive. Best Bitch, Best of Opposite Sex. 

2. Bell’s Ch Whooperhill Serendipity For Letara JW. Lots to like about this bitch, she could easily swap places with the winner but was being a typical stubborn terrier on the day and a bit unsettled on the move. Feminine, clean head with a dark well-set eye and a strong jaw. Muscular neck and level topline but preferred the shoulder of the winner. Good spring and depth of ribs, straight forelegs with good bone and powerful hindquarters. 

Junior Handling Aged 6-11 Years (1, 0 Absent)

1. Enya. Very promising handler. Displayed kind and gentle handling of a young, strong dog. Stood her dog well on the table and showed the bite correctly. Followed instructions well. Knew her dog’s age and moved her dog well in the correct patterns. Best Junior Handler.
