It was a pleasure to judge at this excellent well run show.

AV Hound Veteran

This was such a lovely class full of exceptional hounds; some high class veterans failed to make the cards. 1, Allchorne’s Basset Hound, Nelgus Thyme Flies ShCex, tan/white 8 y/o, what a lovely balance of type and activity; noble head with clean eyes and splendid leathers, in spanking condition and carried himself proudly with free elastic strides; 2, Parker’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch Kiromol As You Like It with Azuli JW, another lovely hound with such a nice feminine head, flat skull, strong jaw, nicely arched neck into good shoulder, well ribbed up, held topline well on the move, clean footfall; 3, Lewis’ Otterhound, Ch Olphae Charman VW.

PBGV

J (3) 1, Guernari & Dane’s Soletrader Basil Fawlty, a most appealing young hound with an impeccable outline, masculine had with strong jaw, good furnishings. I loved his clean, not overdone front and tight feet, good strong well angulated rear providing plenty of drive, pin sharp in front, BOB and shortlisted in a strong Group; 2, Moore’s Tangaer Jump for Joy, petite and feminine, pretty head with sweet expression, good ear and eye, strode out really well in profile; 3, Wood’s Beaujons Susannah.

PG (3) 1, Holt’s Cynetkoy River Phoenix, substantial male with a very nice outline, pleasing head with short muzzle, good angles both ends, level topline, strong loin, decent feet, nice harsh coat, moved pretty well, RBOB; 2, Moore’s Probert Calypso, different type, feminine head with dark eye and correct ear length, good lay of shoulder, nice strong rear and moved pretty well especially in profile. Feet poor and she is in her nightie at the moment; 3, Bishop’s Jamar Miss Skylar.

O (4) 1, S Basil Fawlty; 2, Holt’s Nykarth’s Under Wraps, nice houndy head, good furnishings, good shoulder, and decent feet, moved OK if a little untidy in front; 3, Wood’s, Beaujon’s Leading Lady JW.

Basset Hounds

J (2) 1, Mclean’s Lauralee Dreams of Magic at Stookewood, t/w youngster with a lovely head and outlook, nicely made all through, excellent feet, level topline, moved well when she settled with plenty of freedom, RBOB; 2, Vaughan’s Clanwillow Goddess of Love Odinschild, 11 month old puppy, very nice head and leathers, well constructed both ends with an excellent framework to build on as she matures, boisterous but did enough to show she could move well and freely; still quite raw but so clearly enjoying herself, lovely to see BP & PG3

PG (1) 1, Cooper’s Houndsbay Vito Andolini, well balanced skull with dark eye, good strong jaw and teeth, decent front, strong rump, moved well enough. Would prefer a slightly drier head.

O (1, Allchorne’s Nelgus Golden Nugget, 3 y/o t/w male of excellent type, super houndy head, good length of neck into well-laid shoulder, well-balanced proportions all through, lovely active driving movement, no exaggerations. Just needs a little more confidence in the ring. BOB; 2, McLean’s Switherland Gabriella at Stookewood, 5y/o t/w, pleasing head and well laid shoulder, excellent front and forechest, good topline and tail carriage, moved pretty well with a runner.

Beagles

J (2,1) 1, Poulter’s Rossut Imogene Queen at Bethelite, very pretty feminine 11 months youngster with excellent balanced angulation, soft expression, good earset and shape, carried stern well, moved very well and soundly as one would hope from her conformation. Just a bit on the leg at the moment. BP & PG2; 

PG (2,1) 1, Whitton’s Alibor Genesis of Haggatty, compact well-balanced feminine tri, good length of neck into well laid shoulder with a clean line from occiput to tailset; short back with strong loin, excellent feet, strong quarters with plenty of reach behind the stern, super little mover with lovely clean footfall, BOB & G3.

O (4) 1, RBOB, Roberts & Spearing’s Linkenlees Lyric ShCM ShCEx VW, what a laster this bitch is, at 10 ½ she has lost very little of her joie de vivre. Pleasing expression, excellent forehand with good return of upper arm, firm topline, good stern carriage, in super fit condition that belies her age, RBOB; 2, Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince JW, beautiful head on this masculine boy, very pleasing expression. Good feet and forehand, short back, lots of ring presence, moved pretty well but would like a bit more hound behind the stern; 3, Whitton & Edge’s Jalhar the Wonder of You ar Haggatty.

Deerhounds

PG (2,1) 1, RBOB, Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight High for This, 2 y/o with a lovely feminine head, good length of neck into excellent forehand, curvaceous outline with good length and strength of loin, well angulated quarters. Tendency to rush when moving. RBOB

O (2) 1, Lucas& Dargonne’s Packway the Enigma, a very elegant, graceful girl with a lovely expression, dark eye and well shaped ear. Balanced outline with good turn of stifle, moved cleanly with light floating gait. BOB; 2, Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight We Can Be Heroes, upstanding male with refined but masculine head, good front assembly, good depth and length of brisket, well balanced angulation. Not making the best of himself on the move, 

Irish Wolfhounds 

J (2,1) 1, Taylor & Lynch’s Pretty Dogs First Chester (Imp NLD), tall wheaten youngster, nice typy head, balanced angulation, good feet, plenty of scope, moved pretty well all round. Just needs time to fill into his substantial frame, RBOB.

PG (2) 1, Read’s Snuggletooth Cup Cake, attractive 3 y/o brindle bitch with plenty of substance,, good front with ample forechest, deep brisket carried well back, strong loin and powerful quarters, clean mover, BOB. 2, Bell-Ashe’s Haziannes Knights Crusader at Oeolyca, substantial wheaten male, very nice head, good length of neck, moved OK. Still quite immature, and rather straight in upper arm and stifle for my taste.

Portuguese Podengo

PG (1) 1, BOB, Sampson’s Morialta Tavira, pretty feminine rough coat, nice make and shape, pleasing head, well balanced outline, in good coat, moved very well with brisk strides. Just needs a little more confidence.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks

J (3,2) 1, Whitney’s Voorlooper Raadi Mosi, quality youngster of 13 months, head masculine but not overdone with good planes, decent length of neck into good layback, plenty of scope and with very good depth of brisket for his age, moved well when he settled. Just need to firm in pastern a little.

PG ( 3, 1) 1, Parker’s Asharaa’s She’s Magic to Azuli, petite but well proportioned girl with such a pretty feminine head and charming expression, no mistaking her gender. Sound and clean mover all ways and beautifully handled to make the best of herself. Would just like a touch more return of upper arm. RBOB; 2, V Raadi Mosi.

O ( 2) 1, Hicks’ Nuthouse Going for Gold JW, red wheaten that I liked as a puppy and has developed very nicely. Quality head with dark eye and flat skull, very good forehand and feet, good length and depth of ribbing, holding topline both stacked and moving, scored on the move with good drive and extension, BOB; 2, Mitchelson’s Amahle Red Hot Zephyr at Voortrekker, handsome masculine dog, bit strong in head for my taste; with good front and feet, correct overall proportions, ample bone and angles match front and rear. Nice type but a bit unruly and could not match 1 on the move.

Salukis

PG (2) 1, BOB, Jowitt’s Barleymoon Zala, light framed cream, nice head with veining and dark eye, correct proportions, good depth of chest, well ribbed up with nice tuck up, moved OK especially in profile; 2, RBOB Ulyatt’s Yamadan Kn Aijaz Haalim (imp USA), a youngster of nice type with a good head, eye and ear, decent feet, everything in proportion but yet to fill in front, hopefully this will come with time.

The Keith Wright Memorial AV Puppy Stakes

P (28, 10) 1, Greenwood’s Scottish Terrier, Petmon Black Russian, this cracking youngster headed a class full of super puppies; beautifully presented, plenty of attitude, lovely head and expression, good tail carriage, moved with verve, very typy and quite finished for age, one to watch; 2, Welch’s Pointer, Quinnery Betsy Trotwood at Hookwood, pleasing head, sound all through, excellent front and feet, very stylish and elegant, some maturing to do but most promising; 3, Phillips’ Wire Dachshund, Tendrow Amazing Grace.

Hound Group

One of the best groups I have judged and some quality hounds went unrewarded.

G1, Boggia’s Whippet, Boughton Buddleia, a picture of elegance; so very shapely with a feminine head, excellent forehand with the cleanest of fronts, plenty of fill, good angulation both ends, a sweeping line from poll to tail, good depth of chest, moved so very well with precise footfall and covering plenty of ground, a lovely bitch and delighted that she went on to BIS; G2, Akehurst’s Wire Dachshund, Tendrow Down To The Wire at Bramdach JW, another class act, houndy masculine head with excellent harsh furnishings, good front and prosternum, strong rear with rounded rump, well ribbed up, tail carried well, free active mover, really well presented; G3, Beagle, A Genesis of H; G4, Oorloff’s Basenji, Convica Fast and Furious, lovely head on this young r/w, short muzzle, plenty of wrinkle, small ears set high, almond eyes; good front and short back, fine coat of rich red colour, moved very well both in profile and coming and going; high set tail. Would just like tighter feet.

Hound Puppy Group

PG1, Hope’s Wire Dachshund, Tendrow Makes His Mark, most appealing youngster, well balanced and with correct proportions, head developing very well and with good furnishings already, a little boisterous but when he behaved he moved very well; PG2 Beagle, R Imogene Queen at B; PG3, Basset Hound, C Goddess of Love O; PG4, Whippet, Butcher’s Lolani Master of Recipes, pleasing head, good general outline, with enough scope and good angulation, moved quite well behind and in profile. Just turning toes in in front.
