Norwegian Buhund

Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge Norwegian Buhunds at this lovely show. Huge thanks also to the exhibitors for bringing such quality dogs for me to go over, it was an absolute pleasure.

Junior (2, 2)

Post Graduate (2.1)

1. Knytshall Ragged Robin (Mr M & Mrs J & Mrs N Cobb & Cobb & Kent)

2 year old black male, very pleasing young boy of correct size and proportions giving good square outline. Beautifully balanced with correct angulation fore and aft. Masculine head, good length of neck, level topline, straight front legs and neat feet. Tight double curled tail set high. Coat in lovely condition although lacking a little undercoat, as is normal for the time of year. Moves well, straight coming and going. Lightly built, in fact I wouldn’t mind a little more of him, which like his confidence in the ring I’m sure will increase with maturity.

Open (3,1)

1. Ch Blackcombe Bodil at Tapui (Imp Aus) (Mrs K Irvine)

Beautiful 4 year old wheaten bitch in stunning condition, somehow even having a decent coat in a heatwave. Lightly built but with good bone and muscle, well balanced and square, without exaggeration. Feminine head with dark eyes and well used ears contributing to an intelligent expression, level topline, high set tail with double curl. Impeccable movement, she didn’t put a foot wrong today, very attentive to her handler and happy to be there. Delighted to award BOB and to see that she was later shortlisted in the Pastoral Group.

2. Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall (Mr M & Mrs J & Mrs N Cobb & Cobb & Kent)

I have admired this dog ringside for several years so it really was a treat to get hands on him. At 9 years old, this fabulous wheaten male is still an exceptional example of the breed, in super condition: from his masculine wedge shaped head through to the tip of his double curled tail, there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said many times before, he is the breed standard personified. That said, today he decided it was more fun to play the clown, so lost out to 1. More than happy to have had the opportunity and award him RBOB.
