Westmorland County Show
Open Show

10th September 2026

Judge: Mark Andrews (Ledgands)

Idyllic location nestled amongst the rolling countryside and fields divided by dry-stone walls, on the edge of quaint picturesque villages, and with easy access to the M6. Run as part of the County Show, which is a must for any visitor, my regret was not going up a day earlier than I did so I could have taken in everything the show had to offer. The dog show was well run and very professional, with a great set up of large rings, some inside, some out. A great, friendly crowd of exhibitors, very sporting and lots of applause for the winners. Thank you to the dedicated and hard working committee for inviting me to judge.

Labradors

Class: 125 – Puppy (2/3)

1st – 266 – Flyenpyg Swynona Ryder – C.M. Smith – 8 month old black bitch, pretty feminine head with a kind eye and well placed ears, strong neck flowed cleanlily into her shoulders and a level topline, nice amount of barrel to her ribs, and a short strong loin, nice amount of bone and tidy feet, good turn of stifle and expanse of thigh, proper otter tail which she used well on the move, ever so slightly higher than desirable but she was an excitable puppy enjoying her day out and I would rather see that than one being dragged around the ring. BPIB & PGrp 3.

2nd – 249 – Claychalk Costa Genna – Lawrence & Scrimgeour – 8 months old Black bitch, much slower maturing than the winner, she only looked just 6 month old, pretty head and a nice eye, nice ear size and shape, which were well placed. Good length of neck, nice bone, not so together on the move as the winner today.

Class: 126 – Junior (5/6)

1st - 254 – Bruadarach Ballachulish – Mrs Parker – 12 month old Chocolate dog, strong masculine head of good proportions, well placed ears, thick, clean and strong neck, good amount of bone and width to front, well sprung barrel ribs, short strong loin, good turn of stifle, great expanse of thigh, short hocks, thick otter tail in constant use, not always together on the move yet but I was able to see enough to see he had correct placement.

2nd – 255- Seatallan Ebony – Miss K. Powell – Black bitch just 17 months old, pretty head with a kind eye of good colour, great, barrelled ribs, short loin, excellent turn of stifle and tidy feet, preferred the tail of winner.

2nd – 264 – Flyenpyg Agatha Crispy – C. M. Smith – just 8 months old black bitch, just a baby for this class, very feminine pretty head, kind eye and expression, nice amount of bone, good turn of stifle, moved well for a puppy.

 Class: 128 – Post Graduate (6/8)

2nd – 252 – Seatallan Damson – Mr & Mrs Mullett – 3 year old black dog, very strong masculine head, just a little too strong across the brow for me and short in muzzle in proportion to skull, kind and expressive eye, well placed ears, good length of neck and nice amount of bone, would like a little more width to the front, ribs were more well sprung than barrelled, and a slight arch over the loin where I would prefer it a little leveller, good turn of stifle and short hocks and a nice tail.
