Open Show 1st August 2026

I would like to thank the committee of the Colne, Nelson & District CS for inviting me to judge pastoral breeds at their show and to the exhibitors for their entries. I would also like to thank my lovely stewards who worked tirelessly without a break throughout the day. When it came to the Pastoral Groups, I had some super quality dogs to choose from. Pastoral Group 1 was the most impressive Briard Fostebrie Black Thunder JW who later went on to win BIS. G2 went to the eye-catching Smooth Collie Ch Coldelee Eternal Sunshine JW, G3 was the lovely Bearded Collie Irisaddition Victorious With Ellishar JW and PG4 went to the charming Shetland Sheepdog Ch Ristine Emerald. Best Pastoral Puppy was a most enchanting Samoyed Dynar Lady Slipper to Arcticuno who was also awarded RBPIS. PG2 went to the handsome Australian Shepherd Trijem Bad Moon Rising at Hattiehoula, PG3 was the lovely Border Collie Bryning The Pretender JW and PG4 went to the delightful Briard Fostebrie Eva Diva.

Collie (Rough)

Junior (1) 1. Mills – Lemivee Connie’s Songbird. 1 y/o S/W female who stood alone in this class but instantly appealed for her overall shape and correct breed type. Nicely balanced head with flat skull and correct amount of stop. Lovely dark eye and correct ear carriage giving the most appealing expression. Well-constructed both front and rear with good tail length. Moved effortlessly round the ring.  Beautifully presented and one who I feel has a bright future ahead of her. BOB 

Limit (4) 1. Mills – Lemivee Connie’s Songbird. 2. Rose – Uffspring Ultravox For Coloratura. Appealing 7 y/o tri female of jet-black colour. Well-constructed throughout with good bone and substance. Correct eye shape and placement giving a sweet expression. Good reach of neck and nice overall shape. Moved well. 3. William - Essanjay Heartbreaker 

Open (4,1a) 1. Mills – Lemivee Connie’s Songbird. 2. Rose Beldones Clementine Avec Coloratura. This most appealing S/W female really caught my attention, and it was a very close decision between her and the winner. I just preferred the underjaw of the winner. She has such a melting expression with lovely dark eye, correct head planes and well-placed ears. Good reach of neck and level topline. Nice overall shape. Beautifully presented and moved well.  3. Boyle - Barrenclough Heart Of Gold JW ShCEx OSW VW

Bearded Collie 

Puppy (2) 1. Jenkinson – Tybury’s Arya’s Legend for Ellishar. Lovely 11 m/o blue female who is so well constructed with excellent layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Feminine in outlook with broad flat skull and balanced head proportions. Good reach of neck and nice eye giving a lovely soft expression. Movement was effortless with good reach and drive. BP 2. Ayrton - Briarsfield Little Swan at Aoibh. Another very nice 11 m/o old blue female with lovely outline and correct head proportions. Sweet, feminine expression and good reach of neck.  Good angulation front and rear and moved out well.  Very close decision between these two but just preferred the front construction of the winner.

Open (2,1a) 1. Jenkinson - Irisaddition Victorious with Ellishard JW. Feminine slate female who is just coming up to 4 years of age.  Appealed for her lovely outline and correct length to height ratio Broad, flat skull soft appealing eyes and strong muzzle. Nice arched neck leading to correct shoulder placement and good depth of chest. Moved effortlessly round the ring maintaining her topline. BOB & G3.

Pyrenean Mountain Dog 

Puppy (1) 1. Cave - Lisjova Crowning Glory at Casiann. Just coming up to a year old, this young female is a nice type but just needs time to develop. She has a lovely dark eye and excellent overall pigmentation. Well placed ears and strong neck. Good length of back and nicely rounded ribcage. Balanced medium angulation and good length of tail. Well-presented and moved freely. BP & BOB

Briard 

Puppy (1) 1. Foster - Fostebrie Eva Diva. Super 7 m/o black female who instantly appealed for her lovely outline. Well-proportioned head with appealing dark eyes, strong muzzle and good underjaw. Nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulders. Good body proportions and balanced angulation front and rear. Nice level topline and moved effortlessly round the ring. BP. When it came to the group, she decided she would rather have fun, but still merited G4.

Open (1) 1. Wilkinson & Foster – Fostebrie Black Thunder JW. Most impressive black male who is just coming up to 2 years of age. Correctly proportioned head with strong, square muzzle. Lovely dark eye and excellent overall pigmentation. Muscular arched neck leading to well-laid shoulders and firm, level topline. So well-constructed throughout with medium spring of rib and good depth of chest. Well-muscled hindquarters and excellent overall balance. Movement was effortless, with good reach and drive. BOB & GI. Delighted to learn that he was later awarded BIS

Junior (1) Drinkwater - Artig Take A Chance On Me. Very promising 11 m/o old male.  Correct wedge-shaped head with well-defined stop, lovely dark eye and mobile prick ears giving an appealing expression. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribs with short, strong loin. Well-muscled neck and good layback of shoulder. Good bone and substance.  Lovely free flowing movement with good drive from behind.  BP & BOB.

Open (2,1a) 1. Giles - Csulli Come On Teddy at Kanetia. Sturdy 5 y/o grey male who presents a lovely square outline. Pleasing long head with required muzzle to skull ratio. Correctly placed dark oval eye and well coated, erect ears, neatly tipped. Nicely arched neck and well-muscled forequarters with moderate rear angulation. Level topline and high set tail with the required curl over the back. Moved well with lively, short stepping action. BOB

Limit (1) 1. Smith - Ancksunamun Host Of Goa’uld with Yecartracey. 1. Very appealing 20 m/o male tri with brindle points.  Masculine head with good width of skull and dark, expressive eyes.  Ears large and set well apart with nicely rounded tips. Good length of body with well sprung ribs. Shoulders strong and muscular and good wraparound of forelegs. Well-muscled hindquarters and correct bushy tail.  Moved well with good thrust from the rear. 

Open (1) 1. Smith – Ceranda Gower Diamond JW. Appealing 4 y/o brindle female who was feminine in outlook. Nicely balanced head with the correct proportions between skull and foreface. Good width between the ears which are large and set well apart with nicely rounded tips. Good length of body and spring of rib with balanced front and rear angulation. Expressive eyes which were set well apart giving that alert, watchful expression. Moved well while maintaining her topline. Very close decision between her and the limit class winner. BOB

Puppy (1) 1. Smith - Twinan Roses Are Red with Yecartracey. Very attractive 6 m/o sable female who is still very much a baby. Broad flat skull, moderate stop and correct length of foreface in proportion to skull. Well set eyes giving alert, foxy expression. Good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. Shoulders well laid and good bend of stifle. A very happy puppy who moved well and had the most appealing expression. BP & BOB

Border Collie

Puppy (3,1a) 1. Holtappel – Bryning The Pretender JW. So much to like about this blue and white male who is just coming up to 12 months of age.  Nicely balanced head with well-defined stop. Correct eye shape and placement giving the most appealing expression. Lovely reach of neck and good front and hind angulation. Moved well showing good reach and drive while maintaining his topline. BP & PG3. 2. Webb - Thwaitlake What I Want. 9 m/o black and white female who was quite unsettled today and it was difficult to assess her. Nicely balanced head with good eye shape and placement. Didn’t have the front angulation and movement of the winner and tended to cross over when coming towards me. Needs more time to settle. 

Junior (3,2a) 1. Holtappel – Bryning Psychedelic Kisses JW. Just loved the overall balance and outline of this 18 m/o black and white female. She has a lovely feminine head with balanced skull and foreface proportions, well-defined stop and dark oval eye set wide apart, giving a keen, alert and intelligent expression. Good reach of neck and so well constructed both front and rear. Ribs well sprung and correct length to height ratio. Her movement was smooth and effortless. Although she was a little unsure today when going over her, I forgave this due to her super qualities and lovely breed type. BOB

Open (3) 1. Buckley - Amkamel Half Blood Prince JW. 3 y/o black and white male who appealed for his overall shape and balance.  Masculine head with distinct stop, ears set well apart, and oval shaped dark eye giving keen, alert expression. Good length of neck and well laid-back shoulders. Muscular thighs with well-turned stifles. Movement was free and easy. 2. Webb – Borderbrook Fire And Flame ShCEx. 7 y/o black and white male. Pleasing outline with well-muscled shoulder and hind quarters. Good reach of neck and balanced body proportions. Masculine head, well-defined stop and dark well-placed eye. Moved well but preferred the front movement of the winner. 3. Charlesworth - Wizaland Time For Change at Ginnylands JW.

Limit (2) 1. Hughes – Shadowess If I Can Dream at Cochochr. Well-presented 20 m/o sable/white male. He has a lovely wedge-shaped head with obliquely set dark, expressive eyes and neat well-placed ears, the whole combination giving the most appealing expression. Good reach of neck and excellent front and rear angulation. Ideally would like a tad less length of body to balance his outline. Nice level topline and good length of tail. Moved effortlessly round the ring. 2. Gamble Balidorn Olympic Star with Solyric JW. 2 y/o sable/white male who has the most beautiful wedge-shaped head, lovely dark eye and well-placed ears. Sadly, he was really unsettled today by his surroundings and wouldn’t use his ears to advantage, which spoilt his expression. Nice overall shape and level topline but ideally would like more angulation in front. Good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. So much to like about this boy, just a shame he wasn’t happy with his environment today.

Open (2,1a) Welford – Ch Ristine Emerald VW. It’s impossible to ignore this striking 8-year-old, tricolour female with appealed for her beautiful balanced outline.  She is so well constructed throughout, with a good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. Super moulded head, with well-rounded muzzle and nicely tipped, neat ears. Most appealing, dark, almond-shaped eyes. Lovely bone and substance. Beautifully presented in excellent condition. Her movement was smooth and effortless. Loved her. BOB & G4

Limit (2) 1. Amis & Stanley - Droyales Present Verdandi JW. 2½ y/o sable male who was well-presented by his handler. Strong, masculine head with well-placed eye and erect ears. Well-muscled with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Nice reach of neck leading into good layback of shoulder and length of upper arm.  Well-muscled hindquarters and good bend of stifle. Nice level topline and correct tail set. Moved effortless round the ring with good reach and drive. BOB. 2. Landgren & Towning -Yakasimba Bianca. Another beautifully presented 2 y/o long coat female who has so many of the attributes of the winner and similar comments apply. She is well-constructed throughout with good bone and substance. Appealing feminine head and dark well-placed eye. So much to like about her and very difficult to choose between her and the class winner.

Open (1) O’Neil - Kidaforce Corin of Dunningwell.  Very shapely female just coming up to 7 years of age. Strong, feminine head with medium dark eye giving a keen expression. Good reach of neck and nice flowing topline. Balanced angulation front and rear with good bone and substance. Moved well.

Limit (1) Reid - Galliagh Alya With Milagre. Super fawn female who is just coming up to 4 years of age. Powerful head with broad, slightly rounded skull and well-developed jaws. Short body, with moderate angulation and well-muscled front and hind quarters, showing great overall strength. Nicely furnished, low-set tail. Her conformation is excellent and this showed in her free and easy, yet powerful movement. It was so difficult to choose between her and the open class winner but, she has maturity on her side and was just that bit steadier on the move. BOB

Open (1) Reid & Haslett - Lad’s Unesco Da Estrela. Very sturdy 18 m/o fawn male with black mask who is top size but of lovely breed type exhibiting strength and power. Well-proportioned, strong head with appealing oval eyes giving the desired intelligent expression. Super bone and substance and well-muscled throughout. Excellent conformation with well-sprung ribs and correct body proportions with correctly set well-furnished and feathered tail. Still a young dog who can only get better as he matures. Effortless, free flowing movement.

1. Rosslyn - Balidorn Golden Amber ShCEx (Shetland Sheepdog). Glamorous 7 y/o golden sable female who instantly appealed for her lovely overall shape and balance. She has the most appealing expression, lovely dark, obliquely set eye, correctly placed, and neatly tipped well-set ears. Super reach of neck and nice level topline leading to a gently sweep over her croup and good length of tail. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Correct, balanced angulation front and rear.  Presented to perfection and moved effortlessly round the ring.  Loved her. 2. Rose Uffspring Ultravox For Coloratura (Rough Collie) 3. 1.  Ch Coldelee Eternal Sunshine JW.  Super, eye-catching 4 y/o sable/white female Smooth Collie whose movement was a joy to watch as she moved so smoothly and effortlessly round the ring.  She is so well constructed with balanced front and rear angulation, lovely arched neck and level topline. She has a beautifully balanced head with parallel planes, slight stop and flat skull. Super dark, almond shaped eye and well placed, nicely tipped ears giving the most appealing expression. G2
