South East Of England Dobermann Club

SOUTH EAST OF ENGLAND DOBERMANN CLUB

OPEN SHOW 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026

It is always an honour to be asked to judge by a breed club. Meeting such a friendly, hard-working committee made the day much more enjoyable and put me at ease on arrival, with plenty of tea and homemade cake! My two stewards were a godsend: they were very efficient and kept me in order throughout the day. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who stayed for the afternoon show; it was much appreciated, and it was an honour to judge your Dobermanns.

All exhibits were presented to me in excellent condition and had correct mouths. Most moved well, although two were lame on the day, which was most unfortunate. Some also flew around the ring, which may look flashy but is not appropriate.

BABY PUPPY DOG (2,0) 1. MORGAN SUPETAS GWYDION. Four-month-old black with a super, alert temperament. Very balanced in outline, with correct height-to-length proportions. Well-set front with good width and depth already. Excellent depth of brisket, equal to the height of the foreleg. Correct length of upper arm and shoulder. I like to see a defined wither when I run my hand along the full length of the neck and body, with only a couple of fingers between the scapulae—a sign that the elbows will be tucked in and the front reach tight and sound. Excellent quarters, with promising width to the second thigh. Strong, well-set hocks. Correct, tight, cat-like feet with short nails. Strong, short back. Well-set tail, carried well on the move. Strong, elegant, well-set neck. Gorgeous head in proportion to his body, with good length of foreface and correct head planes. Slight stop, as required, with well-set, alert ears. Clean through the head, with no excess wrinkle. Correct, dark, almond-shaped eye, well set. Excellent mouth and correct scissor bite. Moved well once settled, covering the ground efficiently while keeping his outline. Presented beautifully to the judge. A little darling, I’m sure. Very promising, Best Baby Puppy in Show. 2. PUTTNAM ROSEBEBE GOLDEN EMBER. Slightly older than 1 and another promising black. Well off for bone and substance, and a larger type than 1. Well-set front with good length of shoulder and upper arm. Strong back, with a straight topline and well-set tail. Very promising head with good length of foreface. Excellent mouth and bite. Alert, expressive eye of the correct shape and colour, and well set. Moved well. I just preferred the more balanced outline of 1.

BABY PUPPY BITCH (2,0) BEST BABY PUPPY BITCH. 1. EVERLEY MANZART LIKE I LOVE YOU. Five-and-a-half-month-old brown with lots of potential. Beautifully balanced and square in outline, as required by the standard. Elegant and feminine, yet with excellent size, substance and bone. Well-placed front with excellent length and lay of shoulder and upper arm. Strong, short, firm back with a well-set tail. Strong rear quarters with perfect angulation and good width to the first and second thighs. Strong, straight hocks. A beautiful, classic head developing in proportion to the body. Excellent, alert and showy temperament. Excellent parallel head planes, with good length of foreface. Slight stop and a clean, flat skull free from wrinkle. Excellent bite, excellent pigmentation and well filled under the eyes. Correct almond-shaped eye that is not too deeply set. Neat ears of the correct size, well set. Elegant, strong neck. Neat, well-arched feet and tidy, short nails. Correct eye shape and colour. Moved well for one so young. She just needs to grow into her body and fill out in front. A promising future, I’m sure. 2. EVANS AMAZON BLACK KAVIAR. Another promising puppy at an awkward stage of growth. Well balanced in body, with a correct square outline. Developing a beautiful head that is long and clean throughout. Excellent shoulder placement, with excellent lay and length of shoulder and upper arm. Beautifully presented, as always, by this kennel. Another I will follow with interest.

Excellent rear angulation, with good width to the first and second thighs. Well-set hocks. Strong, elegant neck. Classic head with the required wedge shape when viewed from above and from the side. Excellent length of foreface and well filled under the eyes. Excellent almond-shaped eye of the correct colour, not too deeply set. Slight stop, as required, and a clean, flat skull in proportion to the foreface, with no excessive wrinkle or loose neck skin. Well-tucked-in elbows. Excellent mouth with large, well-spaced teeth.
