North Of England Dalmatian Club

I was extremely pleased to receive this very late invitation to judge as a replacement at this very prestigious club show, even if it was only 2 hours before judging was due to start and did not allow me any preparation time. It was a great honour to be given the opportunity to judge Dalmatians, a breed I have admired for a long time, and whilst the entry was not mine, I had some super quality dogs to be able to assess, especially in the line ups for Best Dog & Best Bitch and both the BIS & RBIS had all the qualities I was looking for. The ring was a good size which allowed the dogs to move freely and generally movement was ok. I noticed a considerable variation in heads from either being too wide or too narrow, and spotting on some dogs lacked clear definition and placement. A special thank you goes to all the exhibitors, for the very sporting way they accepted my decisions, the atmosphere round the ring was super, and to my hard-working steward, Lisa Marley for her support during the afternoon.   

 Veteran Dog (2) 

1. Whincup’s TAMILANDA AIR FORCE ONE, he is 7 years old very alert and on his toes for his age. In profile he presented a very balanced picture, elegant, well-muscled with ample round bone and even spots. He has a clean head with good length and width, close high set ears with a very watchful gaze. His neck is a good length with muscular shoulders, strong straight forelegs and a level back. He has ample depth of chest with well sprung ribs, sufficient tuck up and a strong tail. His hindquarters are well angulated with muscular thighs, a good turn of stifle and strong hocks. He excelled on the move, free and easy and very straight. There was much to like about him, I did consider him for RBD but was very pleased to award him BVIS.       
2. McVicar’s DALFIN ALMOND SLICE, a 9yr old male who was very heavy in appearance, muscular and strong boned. For me he was carrying too much weight but at his age but you can probably make an allowance for this. He has a very broad head, a good length body and sufficient fore and hind angulation. His movement was very steady, but I would have liked to have seen a longer stride and certainly in the open class he could not compete with any of the other dogs on movement.  

Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch (1) 

1. Goodswen’s TAMILANDA GOLD MAGIC BY ALPHADAL, for 4 months of age this young lady has everything and what a little stunner. She is very well balanced overall; her head is in proportion to her body which is a good length, very well-muscled for her age with ample bone, correct fore and hind angulation, and very evenly spotted. She is very outgoing and full of life; she loved being in the ring and moved with so much ease and freedom. She certainly has an exciting future ahead of her. BBPIS. 

Minor Puppy Dog (2) 

1. Short’s WINFLASH JACQUEMUS AT ZAKAYTIA, he is 8m old well developed for his age and all in proportion. His head is balanced with sufficient width and depth; he has very expressive eyes, a sufficiently arched neck with a good length body, a firm back and muscular shoulders. He has ample depth of chest and rib for his age with good round bone; his hindquarters have sufficient muscle with an adequate turn of stifle. He was able to move round the ring with ease, very free with a good stride.  
2. Petersen’s KELEVRA SOLE MATE FOR DAEDALUS, a 6m old finer in build to 1 and different in type. His head and body are in proportion for his age with ample spring of rib, depth of chest and correct fore and hind angulation with sufficient bone and muscle. Whilst he was able to move round the ring, he was very loose in the front which hopefully will tighten up as he develops.  

Puppy Dog (2) 

1. Whincup’s TAMILANDA STARLIGHT, 10m old with so much to like about this boy. He is very balanced with a proud stature, a clean appearance, and still much more to come as he matures. His body is nicely marked with liver spots, he has a quality head with a strong muzzle and sufficient stop, with good ear carriage set close to his head and a very alert calm expression. His neck is a good length set on muscular shoulders, ample forechest with strong forelegs, tight elbows and sufficient bone. He has a good length body not overdone, with a level back firm at the withers with a deep chest, well-placed ribs and a strong underline. His forequarters are sufficiently angulated, powerful with hard muscle and strong hocks enabling him to drive round the ring with ease and absolutely no effort. Both the dog and handler made the prefect team. BPD and a very well deserved BPIS. Also 1st in ND & GD. 
2. Lockhart’s SALVADORADA MISCHIEF MAKER OF LOCKDALM, he is 11m old and a good example of the breed who was unfortunate to come up against the class winner today. Overall, he is very balanced with a muscular body and well developed for his age. His head is broad with a flat skull and a strong muzzle; his neck is clean set on muscular shoulders with a good length body, a good depth of chest and strong forelegs with sufficient bone. His hindquarters have good angulation, muscular thighs and adequate turn of stifle. His movement was free and easy, and I am sure given a bit more time he will have a lot more to offer.    

Junior Dog (3) 

1. Croft’s MAPPLEWELL ROLEX WITH KOROYZA, he is a 16m liver male who I liked from the moment he entered the ring, elegant and balanced. Whilst he is still not the finished product, he displayed all the qualities I was looking for in my Best Dog and subsequent Best in Show. His body is very evenly marked with clean liver spots, he has a strong head of good depth and width with a strong muzzle, his ears are wide and high set, and his neck is muscular. He is well developed at the withers; his shoulders are well defined and laid back, strong at the withers and his forelegs are straight and strong boned with his elbows tight to his body. His back is of sufficient length, nicely rounded and his ribs are deep and well placed with sufficient tuck up. His hindquarters have good angulation and are well muscled with a good turn of stifle; he has strong straight hocks, and a good length tail thick at the root. He presented a very balanced picture on the move, very clean in outline with ample reach and drive. BD and he just had the edge over the BB to take BIS.

Novice Dog (3, 1) 

1. Tamilanda Starlight. 
2. Austin-Render's PERDITAS BRICE NAF TAF, 16m old, longer in the body than 1 and finer build but all in proportion for his size. His head is a good length with sufficient width, his body is well developed with sufficient muscle and bone, his chest has ample depth, and his ribs are well sprung with a clean underline. His hindquarters are well developed with muscular thighs, sufficient turn of stifle and he moved very freely and straight. Also 3rd in SBD.  

Graduate Dog (5, 1) 

1. Tamilanda Starlight. 
2. Dewcroft’s JOUBELLO HEAVEN SENT, in profile he presented a very balanced picture, well-proportioned and muscular with a clean outline and very alert. He has a strong broad head which is in proportion to his body, ample length of neck, with clean well-laid shoulders, a broad chest and sufficient spring of rib. His forelegs are very straight with strong bone, and his hindquarters have good angulation with well-muscled thighs and short strong hocks. His movement was free and easy with good reach and rear drive. Also 1st in SBD.   
3. Leak’s TAMILANDA CONTINENTAL ICON. Also 2nd in SBD.

Post Graduate Dog (5, 1) 

1. Richardson’s PORTUNES St JIMMY AT EXAYEEX JW, this dog is very balanced and powerfully constructed, he has good ring presence and was alert and on his toes. He has a strong masculine head, very expressive, with close set ears and even spots overall. His body is a good length, muscular, strong flowing shoulders with well boned forelegs, a deep chest and a good spring of rib. His hindquarters are powerful with good angulation and hard muscle. On the move he looked balanced, strong with ample reach from the front and very straight.      
2. Kaal’s SCHUNIKKA IFOR DREAM JW, I liked this boy very much but unfortunately his movement let him down, despite me encouraging his handler to run faster, which is such a shame. In profile he presented a powerful picture, muscular and balanced with a very strong masculine head and body with a level back. He has excellent fore and hind angulation with well-muscled thighs. His movement was very slow which detracted from his overall appearance.

Limit Dog (7) 

My class of the day with all 5 exhibit’s super examples of the breed and a credit to their owners.   

1. Barry & Goddard’s DALBERRY THAT BOY IS MINE, he presented a very balanced picture, powerfully constructed with a very dignified look and lots of ring presence. His head is of a good length with a deep muzzle and wide ears carried nice and high. His neck is muscular set on well-defined shoulders, he has ample forechest, straight strong well boned forelegs with his elbows set close to his body which is a good length, with a firm straight back and well sprung ribs. He has good fore and hind angulation, his hindlegs are muscular with a well-defined second thigh and good turn of stifle. His body has well dispersed spots with good tail carriage. He drove round the ring with ease, very straight with a strong striding action. There was a lot to like about this dog.  
2. Wilkins SALVADORADA HEADS WILL ROLL JW; this dog is very similar in type to the class winner with not a lot to differentiate between them. He was very alert and attentive and is very balanced and well-proportioned. His head is very masculine and strong giving him a clean look, with a good length neck, muscular shoulders and a well-developed body with a deep chest and ample rib. His forelegs and nice and straight, a good length with ample round bone and his hindquarters are well developed and muscular. He also excelled on the move, effortless with ample reach and strong drive.  
3. Croft’s JAXSONDAL CREME DE LA CREME AT KOROYZA.

Open Dog (5) 

1. Whincup’s TAMILANDA VINTAGE GOLD JW, this dog is an excellent example of the breed, not overdone in anyway presenting a balanced picture with good muscle tone and very athletic. He stood well very focused on his handler; his head is very clean in outline with a good length and width, a deep muzzle and wide close-set ears and an alert expression. His neck is a good length; his shoulders are well defined and laid back, clean withers with strong forelegs, tight elbows and ample forechest. He has a well-developed body with a firm level back, his chest is deep with well sprung ribs, strong in the loin with a clean underline and a good length tail thick at the root. His hindquarters are muscular with well-developed thighs, good angulation and strong hocks. He moved with purpose with good reach and strong rear drive. His spots are well defined and evenly placed. I was pleased to award him RBD.  
2. Croft’s SOPHTSPOT MIDAS TOUCH FOR KOROYZA, he is another quality example of the breed, very powerfully built and masculine in appearance with even spots. He was on his toes and raring to go. His head is very strong with a good width; it is in proportion to his body and was held nice and high on the move. He has a muscular body which is well developed, his shoulders are well defined, and his forelegs are strong and straight with ample round bone with compact feet. His body is a good length with a level back, a good depth of chest and ample spring of rib with a strong underline. He has good hind angulation with muscular thighs and straight hocks enabling him to drive round the ring with ease. 
3. Newton’s WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET PASSIONATE ABOUT YOU FOR CHIZZMIC (IMP BEL) JW.  
4. Crookes DALBERRY THE STARBURST. 
5. Dalfin Almond Slice. 

Special Beginners Dog (4, 1) 

1. Joubello Heaven Sent, also 2nd in GD.  
2. Tamilanda Continental Icon, also 3rd in GD, smaller in size than 1 but still well-proportioned and balanced for his size with sufficient muscle tone and bone. He moved well very free and easy. 
3. Perditas Brice NAF, TAF, also 2nd in ND.         

Veteran Bitch (2, 1) 

1. Dewcroft’s DVOJICA COUNTESS CALEDONIA VW, what a credit this lady is to her owners 10 years old, very fit and still in excellent show condition. She has a super head, flat at the top with a deep muzzle, well-set ears and a very soft expression. Her neck is a good length, nicely arched with well laid shoulders, a good length back with a muscular body, deep ribs with a strong underline. Her forelegs are well boned, and her hindquarters are still muscular with a good turn of stifle. She has a good length tail with clean even spots all over her body. She was still able to move round the ring with ease, very strong and straight. BVB & BOSVIS.   

Junior Bitch (5, 1) 

1. Gill’s JEMBLEWOOD STORK OF SOLACE FOR EMBERGILLY, a super young lady just 12 months old with much more to come, very elegant in appearance and beautifully marked with even spots. She was very alert and focused on her handler. She presents a very balanced picture; her head is feminine and very clean with a moderate stop and strong muzzle. She has a good length lean neck set on a muscular body, well laid shoulders with good definition, strong at the withers with a firm back, ample chest and a strong underline to the loin. Her forelegs are well developed, straight with strong round bone and compact feet. She has good hind angulation with well-developed thighs for her age, sufficient turn of stifle and strong straight hocks. Her movement was graceful, very free and unrestricted. Also 1st in NB, SBB and very pleased to award her BSBIS.  
2. Newton’s SALVADORADA LIGHT IT UP FOR CHIZZMIC, she is 15m old and not to dissimilar in appearance to the class winner with many of her qualities. She is very balanced in appearance and well developed for her age with ample muscle tone and strong bone. Her head is a good length and width, it is in proportion to her body and she has a very gentle expression. She has a good length body with a strong straight back, sufficient forechest and well sprung ribs. Her hindquarters are well angulated with muscular thighs and short straight hocks. On the move she covered the ground well, very straight with ample reach and drive.  
3. Lockhart’s SALVADORADA LEGALLY BLONDE FOR LOCKDALM.  
4. Quayle & Beaumont CUBALIBRE TRIPLE HAZY. Also 2nd in NB.  

Novice Bitch (6) 

1. Jemblewood Stork of Solace for Embergilly. Also 1st in JB. 
2. Cubalibre Triple Hazy, there is a lot to like about this young lady who was spooked in the previous class by the wind and the ring tape flapping. This time she was more settled and able to stand. At 1 year old she is very balanced overall, she has good muscle tone, ample round bone with good angulation and a strong head, which is one of her pleasing qualities. Her body is a good length with ample depth to her chest, well-placed ribs and muscular hindquarters. She excelled on the move, very balanced with a strong driving motion and was placed on merit.  
3. Grant’s SALVADORADA LADY OF THE GLEN FOR BEVAHALLI.  
4. Foster’s DALLYADOR WHITE MYRTLE.  
5. Salvadorada Light It Up for Chizzmic.   

Graduate Bitch (4, 2) 

1. Dallyador White Myrtle, whilst she was reserve in NB, she excelled in this class and was placed on merit. In profile she presented a balanced picture, she is a good length with a well-developed muscular body, her head is all in proportion with good width and length and she had a very expressive gaze. She was certainly not phased; she was very alert, and her tail, which is a good length, never stopped wagging. Her fore and hindquarters are well angulated and her movement was very free and graceful. Also 2nd in PGB, VHC in LB, and Reserve in OB. 
2. Stubbins PERDITA’S AURELIA, she is shorter in length than the class winner and not as well muscled. Whilst her head is in proportion to her body, I would have preferred more width to it. She has good angulation, her forelegs are straight with sufficient bone, and she has adequate depth of chest and spring of rib. Her movement was ok, but I would have liked to see a longer stride and greater drive from the rear.  

Post Graduate Bitch (2) 

1. Donnelly’s Tamilanda Golden Leaf, this young lady was very much at home in the ring and stood well. She is well proportioned with a clean outline and dense even spots. Her head is a good length, balanced and very feminine with sufficient depth of muzzle and a very soft watchful expression. She has a good length neck with good shoulder placement, straight forelegs with sufficient bone and firm compact feet. Her body is a good length with ample width to her chest, well sprung ribs and a clean underline. She has good hind angulation with well-developed thighs and moved very well around the ring with little effort. 
2. Dallyador White Myrtle. 

Limit Bitch (6) 

1. Foster’s PERDITA’S TOMORROWLAND JW SHCEX OSW, she is an excellent example of the breed, very feminine and powerfully constructed, elegant with a very clean outline. Both the dog and handler were in tandem; she stood like a rock and was very focused. She has a strong head flat on the top of the skull with a deep muzzle, her neck and shoulders are muscular, and her forelegs are straight and very solid. Her body is a good length with a deep chest, well defined loins with a strong underline, her hindquarters have good angulation, muscular thighs with a good turn of stifle and strong straight hocks. She has evenly placed spots which are well defined and a strong tail. She was one of the better movers, free and unrestricted with a nice long stride. I was pleased to award her a very well-deserved RBB.       
2. Whincup’s Gold Standard AT DOTSADAISY, another lovely example of the breed who was not overdone in anyway and is evenly marked. She is very balanced and focused all the time on her handler. Her head is very clean, nicely shaped, and in proportion to her body with very soft eyes. She has sufficient length of neck; her shoulders are well defined, and her back is firm and level with well-placed ribs and ample depth of chest. Her forelegs are straight with strong round bone; she has good hind angulation with well-developed thighs and good turn of stifle with compact feet. She presented an elegant picture on the move, effortless and true.  
3. Wilkins SALVADORADA HONESTLY MAYBE.

Open Bitch (4) 

1. Quayle’s CUBALIBRE STAR ATTRACTION JW, I liked the look of her as she entered the ring, very balanced in profile, elegant with a very clean outline and muscular whilst retaining all her feminine qualities. Her head is strong with a flat skull, broad at the ears with a deep muzzle and a very watchful gaze. She has a good length of neck, shoulders muscular and well defined, firm at the withers, with very strong straight forelegs and elbows close to her body. Her body is a good length not too long, her chest is deep with well-placed ribs, her loins are well defined, and she has a strong underline. She has very muscular hindquarters, nicely rounded with strong hocks, compact feet and a good length tail. Her spots are clean and evenly spaced. Her movement was very graceful and free with ample reach and strong drive. She stood out for me in the challenge for BB, and I was very pleased to award it to her, followed by BOS & RBIS. She is a credit to her owner.     
2. Wilkins SALVADORADA HOPES N’ DREAMS, another who was very much at ease in the ring and stood well for her handler. She is very balanced overall, well-proportioned with a muscular body and strong bone. Her head is a good length and width; her neck is nicely rounded set on well-defined shoulders, and she has good fore and hind angulation. She has ample depth to her chest; her ribs are well sprung and spacious and her loins are well defined. Her hindquarters are muscular enabling her to drive round the ring with ease, very straight and true.
