Sunday 16th August 

Thank you to Harrogate & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge Goldens, cockers and Weimaraner’s at their 80th Anniversary. Congratulations to the very hardworking committee for putting on such an amazing show. Massive thank you to my amazing steward “Jim with the schnauzers” who did a super job keeping the ring moving. 

Retriever (Golden) 

Puppy (5,3) 

2 super babies 

1 - Avonbrook Feel The Love (AI) - 8 month old bitch with the prettiest head and expression, dark well set eyes, good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, nice tight feet, good bend of stifle with well muscled rear for age, once settled she was so very true on the move holding her level topline. A promising baby with so much to admire. BP 

2 - Jomiagan Keep On Showing - 8 month-old dog, with many of the same comments applying as to 1. Masculine throughout, but without being overdone. Good overall balance and a pleasing outline. Moved well with good drive and soundness. I preferred the rear assembly of 1 on the day, although these are two promising youngsters and their placings could easily change as they mature.

Junior (2,0) 

1 - Ashbyglen True Colours at Emmabe JW -16 month old dog, a cracking young dog with plenty to admire. Could carry a little more weight, although I later learned that he had recently been poorly. Masculine throughout, with a beautiful head and lovely expression. Excellent reach of neck leading into a correct front assembly. Lovely tight feet and a good, level topline. Could be a little less animated on the move and would benefit from carrying his tail with slightly less pride! A super young dog with a great deal to like.

2 - Vera’s Mystery at Evenmint - 17-month-old bitch, a very sweet and pretty young lady. Lovely feminine head with a beautiful expression. Would prefer her to be stood slightly less close in front by her handler, allowing her front assembly and overall outline to be seen to better advantage. A good, honest bitch with plenty to like, who moved well once she had settled.

Post Graduate (7,5) 

1 -Cottan Golden Fleury – 4 year old bitch, everything in the right place and nothing overdone. Lovely, feminine head and expression, with correct angles fore and aft. Good topline and balance, and very sound on the move

2 Vera’s Mystery at Evenmint - as second in junior. 

Open (9, 5) 

1 – Strathlon Spirit of Ecstasy JW – 4 year old bitch. Such a pretty bitch with the kindest of expressions. A good, honest bitch with nothing overdone. Lovely, well laid shoulders, straight legs and neat, round, tight feet. Deep bodied throughout, with a lovely level topline that she maintained on the move. Well muscled hindquarters, which she used to great advantage, moving with excellent reach and drive. A lovely bitch who thoroughly deserved BOB.

2 – Lalique Lord of the Rings at Hamcar – A smashing 6 year old dog with a lovely masculine head and good dark eye. Correct angles fore and aft, well bodied and carrying a level topline. Good bend of stifle and excellent hindquarter construction. Moved very well, with good reach and drive. RBOB 

Spaniel (cocker) 

Puppy (5,2) 

1 - Kimapa Kuromi Karrot -What a super 10 month old baby who caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring and had me smiling straight away. She is so very pretty, with a correct and balanced head, dark eyes and the kindest expression. Moderate, muscular neck flowing into well laid, sloping shoulders and straight front legs and nice round right feet. Well developed chest and good depth of body throughout, with well muscled hindquarters which she used to great advantage on the move.She is the happiest youngster, with a tail that never stopped wagging. A lovely prospect whom I believe will do very well in the future, and one whose career I will follow with interest. Could not be denied BOB and BP

2 - Kalispell’s The Hustler - 10 month old dog who I wouldn’t like to see any bigger at this age. Handsome masculine head. Everything as it should be at this age. Correct front, topline and hindquarters. Moved well. 

Junior (2,2) 

Post Graduate (6,5)

1 - Millmollwick Princess Pepa - a very sweet 2 year old black bitch. So very well put together, correct shoulder placement, straight front legs, tight feet, good depth and muscle tone throughout. Moved with reach and drive. 

2 - Kimapa Kwackers Kwtch - very pretty 2 year old bitch, very correct throughout. A tad unsettled on the move today, but nevertheless a lovely bitch 

3 - Manchela Little Mermaid of Annaside JW - I feel this bitch needs a mention as I absolutely loved her, but unfortunately she was a tad unsound in front. 

Open (5,1)

1 - Millmollwick Princess Pepa - as previous class 

2 - Lusaka Royal Saphire - a very handsome 3 year old dog who was a tad bigger than I would have liked. He is correct through with good muscle tone and moved with reach and drive. 

Weimaraner

Junior (2,1) 

1 - Ministergate Celebration JW - 14 month old bitch, my steward asked “is she as smart as I think she is” … yes sir, yes she is. I absolutely loved her. Very feminine throughout, with a beautiful head and lovely expression, good ear set and correct eye. Excellent reach of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, good forechest and a lovely deep body throughout. Good straight front with neat, tight feet. Lovely topline and good tailset, with strong, well-muscled hindquarters and good angulation. Lovely overall balance and proportions, with plenty of bone without being coarse. A very attractive young bitch with a super outline and plenty of quality, and one I would be very happy to watch mature. Beautifully presented and a real credit to her owner. BOB 

Postgraduate (0,0) 

Open (3,2)

1 - Enjager Elegance for Brownbank JW - A good quality 2 year old bitch with a lovely head and kind expression. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, with a correct front and good feet. Nice depth of chest and good body throughout, with a level topline. Well muscled hindquarters and good rear angulation. Moved well both ways, maintaining a good topline and showing good drive from behind. A pleasing overall package with good breed type. Very unfortunate to meet the junior bitch today.
