Houndshow Open Show Critique – 19/07/26

Many thanks to the Committee for the invitation and to my pleasant and efficient stewards who kept proceedings running smoothly. Dachshund (Miniature Long-Haired) Puppy (4,0) 1 – Kasprowicz’s Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello, 10 month cream bitch, well proportioned with enough ground clearance, pleasing head and ear shape/set, correct front angulation balanced with rear angles, held her level topline on the move while demonstrating good reach and drive, well ribbed back. 2 – Brace’s Allforus Vanilla Ice for Xemxija, 7 month cream male, also nicely proportioned with good bone and substance, preferred head of 1st placed, moved well but not quite the rear drive of 1st placed today, good level topline held on the move. Junior (6,2) 1- Whitfield-Roberts’ Dandydayo Cowboy And Kisses, shaded red dog, pleasing head and expression, clean through the neck and shoulder onto a level topline with good ribbing, moved today with reach and drive whilst holding his shape. 2 – Kasprowicz’s Daniello Dreamer Boy, nicely proportioned dapple dog with good clearance, preferred head and expression of 1st placed, strode out well in profile holding his level topline. Post Graduate (7,2) 1 – Causier’s Captain Caos, cream dog, pleasing head and expression, perhaps a shade long cast for me but held a level topline on the move, strode out well with reach and drive. 2 – Kasprowicz’s Daniello Diamond Dove, nicely proportioned choc/tan dog with good clearance, scored in head and front angulation, not quite the reach/drive of 1st placed today, well ribbed back. Open Dog (3,0) 1 – Geeson’s Ch. Abydachs Alpha Centauri, black/tan, would prefer him a little smaller, decent bone and substance and well ribbed back, typical conical shaped head with good muzzle/skull proportions, correct front angulation with good forechest and clearance, level topline which he held on the move with good reach and drive, well ribbed back. BOS. 2 – Thomson’s Rivandell Sirius Black JW, slightly longer cast shaded cream, nice head, not quite as steady in topline, moved well with good extension. Open Bitch (2,0) 1 – Holtom’s Rivandell Osha, cream, very nicely balanced with correct height/length proportions and good ground clearance, good neck and clean through the shoulder onto a level topline which she held very well on the move, well ribbed back with a strong, short loin, slight slope to croup onto decent rear angulation, steady on the move with good reach and drive. BOB today. 2 – Way’s Ralines Ways And Means JW, cream, pleasing head with good muzzle/skull proportions, well boned with good feet, strode out well but lost topline a little at times, slightly proud of her tail. Dachshund (Long-Haired) Puppy (2,0) Two very nice puppies! 1 – Hanney-Mitchell, Wilkinson and Wakeham’s Bronia Luciano, 11 month red male, correct conical head with good muzzle/skull proportions, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm with good keel, slightly longer cast than 2nd placed, very sound on the move displaying excellent reach and drive whilst holding his topline. BOB. 2 – Lacey’s Abydezi Abracadabra, 9 month black/tan bitch, nicely proportioned and well ribbed back, clean through the neck and shoulder, with good front and rear angulation, topline reasonably level although still needs to firm up, very good on the move but couldn’t quite match the reach/drive of 1st placed today. Very nice puppy. BOS. Junior (3,0) 1 – Hanney-Mitchell, Wilkinson and Wakeham’s Bronia Luciano. 2 – Geeson’s Abydachs Out Of The Fire, shaded red bitch, scores highly in head shape and balance, nicely balanced and proportioned, good reach of neck with good layback of shoulder and front angulation, reasonably level in topline, moved well enough. Post Graduate (9,1) 1 – Hanney-Mitchell, Wilkinson and Wakeham’s Bronia Luciano. 2 – Paskins’ Kindeace London’s Calling JW, shaded red male, really liked his proportions, ground clearance and overall balance, has a look of moderation to him, pleasing head, good reach of neck and correct front construction so he stands well over himself, well boned and masculine, level topline stood but not quite holding it in profile today, very nice dog. Open Dog (4,1) 1 – Paskins’ Kindeace Hit The Road Jack JW, shaded red, well boned with good proportions, well ribbed back with level topline, covered the ground well on the move holding his shape. 2 – Taylor’s Delsaux Made It Jumbo Band, similar in type to 1st, nicely balanced and proportioned, not putting quite as much in on the move, good head properties, slightly more cut up underneath than winner. Open Bitch (1,1). Junior Handling (6-11y) 1 – Hollie McDonald, handling a Whippet, followed my instructions very well, I was particularly impressed with her calm, empathic manner whilst handling a Whippet who wasn’t particularly co-operative today. She managed to win the dog over using a reassuring, gentle approach which gained trust allowing her to move him well on a loose lead. Well done! 2 – Imogen Thorburn, handing a Dachshund, very empathic approach towards the dog, she also has an encouraging demeanour which results in a good all-round performance. She made sure her dog was co-operative throughout without fuss or fluster. (12-16y) 1 – Abigail Kirkwood-Emery, handling a Dachshund, another young handler with an impressive empathic approach, she followed instructions well and changed hands seamlessly when required to keep the dogs momentum undisturbed.
