Newport Agricultural Show - Gundogs

Many thanks to the Society for the invitation to judge and special thanks must go to my variety of stewards that attended throughout the day, starting with Jenny & Christine. It was incredibly hot in the full sun but thankfully, we were good for shade and a cool breeze running through the marquee. 

German Shorthaired Pointer

Open (3-2) 1st Orchidstar Themisto by Balvenie, handsome 4 year old, standing alone but well deserved his place. Pleasing head and eye, shoulders back, well-muscled quarters and moving well. BOB.

Pointer

Puppy (3-2) 1st Sonham Brimstone, attractive B/W at rising 8 months. Liked his outline and balance, ample bone, neat feet and a most expressive head. BP & Puppy Grp 3.

Post Grad (4) 1st Jilony Zelda, B/W feminine all through she has a detailed head of good proportions, correct shoulders, brisket well let down and good bend of stifle. Moving well. BOB. 2nd Sonham Just a pretty Belle (AI), L/W, bigger all round to 1 but all in proportion. She has a pleasing head, good for ribbing and muscular quarters, preferred the front of 1. 3rd Meadowpoint Spooktacular.

Open (3-2) 1st Dappleline Chance for Anniezu, at 6 years a substantial O/W with ample bone, good angulation at both ends plus a decent topline & tailset. Would prefer a touch more muscle tone. Res BOB.

Weimaraner

Post Grad (1) 1st Desjiem Dujardin, rising 6 years this bitch has a correct ear set, good length of neck and a level top line, however she is carrying a touch too much weight which affects her outline.

Open (3-2) 1st Desjiem Billy Don’t be a Hero, a quality 4-year-old dog, brother to a previous class winner. Well constructed throughout and presenting a lovely outline. Pleasing head and neck, with good front angulation and ribbing. Moved well, showing drive from his strong, muscular quarters. BOB.

Irish Setter

Post Grad (1) 1st Swiftlark Invincible, this 4-year-old presents a super head and eye and is good for make and shape. He has a good length of neck, plenty of depth through the front, and a super coat in excellent condition. He has moderate angulation at the rear which is good to see and sound on the move. Res BOB.

Open (1) 1st Swiftlark Spellbinder ShCEx, more mature half brother to previous class winner. A masculine dog with an attractive, well-proportioned head and kind expression. He has a good length of neck set well into his shoulders. Good for depth of chest and ribbing plus hip to hock long and muscular. Such a stylish mover and all topped off with a well-conditioned coat of good colour. BOB.

English Setter

Puppy (4) 1st Balvenie Shona, just 6 months old, a tricolour with all the essentials. She caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring and is absolutely beautiful; I would not change anything about her she’s well balanced and sports a clean outline. One to watch I feel. BOB, BP & Puppy Group 2. 2nd Alofrana Xclusive Party, impressive orange male at 8 months, no mistaking the sex of this lad, even at this tender age. When his head breaks he will be a force to be reckoned with, another one on the watch list. 3rd Indibrook Freya.

Junior (2) 1st B Shona. 2nd Indibrooke Frieda, Tri litter sister to 3rd in Puppy, good for make and shape, just not as together as 1st. 

Hungarian Visla

Junior (2) 1st Nordicfield Lady Jaeger, feminine 14 months old bitch of good make & shape. She has a pleasing head, correct angulation at both ends with enough breadth & depth of chest. She stands on neat feet and moves with style BOB. 2nd: 2nd Dansarg King Kobe, at 16 months maturing nicely, loved his profile, deep chest and well sprung ribs, level topline and moderate turn of stifle, however he is exceptionally strong in head.

Post Graduate (2) 1st Glenbrows Opera D’Arte JW, well balanced, good width to her skull, ear placement and depth to her chest, enough spring of ribs and level topline with good musculature. However, I would prefer a touch more width to second thigh. Res BOB. 2nd Vizvale Golden Empress, lean head, ok for topline and good rear angulation. Pleasing side profile but not the front of 1. 

Open (3) 1st Glenbrows Reminiscent bitch in very fit condition. She has a balanced outline, is elegant all through, straight front, well-muscled up and moving soundly. 2nd Nordicfield Dawn Run, well made and put together, really liked this bitch and when back into show condition will trouble the best. Slight arch to her neck into well laid shoulders, muscular hindquarters and ample bone.

AVNSC Gundog

Open (1) 1st Car Z Brumovskeho Udoli (Imp Cze) Large Munsterlander, although a tad fine all through, he was well proportioned and in super solid condition, with hind quarters as hard as nails. Coat and feathering in excellent condition. Best AVNSC.

AV Gundog Veteran (13) 1st Levelmoor Acorn antiques via Wetnoses, Flatcoat in super coat and condition, and looks half her 7 years. Such a happy showgirl showing off her attributes and so attentive to her handler. She has a classic head, clean neck, correct shoulders and elbows in. Well angulated quarters and using them to drive around the ring. Very pleased to see her later take BVIS. 2nd Cocker, Sandluga Soul Man VW, square muzzle on his well-shaped head, sturdy body with ample bone and standing on tight feet. 3rd Laithmoors Red Grenadine JW, Welsh Springer.

Gundog Group 1, Welsh Springer, Menstonia Endless Dreams JW, lovely type, pleasing all through, so well balanced. 2, Dreamcast Elysium Caroloco, Am Cocker, eye-catching B/W parti, real showgirl. 3, Flatcoat, Culcrieffs Ferntower Glenn of Wetnoses. 4.Golden Retriever, Strettonhills Quevega.

Puppy Gundog Group 1, Labrador, Magnavalleys Martinique, super pup, quality as usual from this kennel. 2, English Setter, B. Shona. 3, Pointer, S Brimstone. 4, Cocker Spaniel, Sandlauga Baileys on Ice.
