Thank you to the Association for the invitation to judge these lovely hound breeds. Thanks also to the exhibitors for bringing your lovely dogs and allowing me the opportunity to go over them. I was thoroughly spoilt which made for some very hard decisions.

AFGHAN HOUND

Junior – 3 Entries – 2 Absent

1st - 252 MADELION LADY DEMENTER (Mrs L Webb)

9 ½ month old bitch, super young lady who is balanced in her outline, lovely head and expression with correct dark, triangular eye, good muzzle and correct dentition, nice neck flowing into her well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. She has a level topline and sufficient depth to her chest. Correct fallaway and ring tail. She has a good bend of stile and low set hocks. An exuberant youngster who showed good reach and drive on the move. Pleased to award her BP and watch her win a strong puppy group.

What a fabulous class with super exhibits. A real close decision between 1st and 2nd and on another day could easily swap places, today I felt that 1st had such excellent carriage and displayed fantastic reach and drive, covering the ground with purpose which ultimately tipped the decision in his favour.

1st –245 - SHAHFOLADI SPHINX RIDDLE AT ZHAROOK (AI) JW (Mrs T, Mr P, Mrs P A, & Mr R E Gorman & Latimer)

4 year old male, stunning, beautifully balanced with a clean flowing outline and a long silky coat. I loved his head with correct dark triangular eye and expression typical of the breed, good muzzle and correct dentition. Long and strong neck leading to his well laid shoulders with excellent return of upper arm, strong level topline which he held on the move, good depth of chest with a fair spring of ribs, he had a well muscled loin, prominent hip bones and good fall away. Powerful well bent stifles, and low set hocks. On the move he had an air of elegance, moving with purpose and covering the ground with ease in a light springy action, with his head held proudly. A joy to watch. Delighted to award him BOB and watch him win a strong hound group followed by the ultimate award of Best In Show.

2nd – 251 - CH SAXONMILL MAJIC MOMENT AT KHATIRA (Miss C M Parker)

5 year old male, a worthy champion presented in fabulous condition, lovely balanced proportions, good head with correct dark triangular eye, lovely strong neck leading to well laid shoulders and excellent return of upper arm. His topline was level which he held on the move, correct depth to his chest and a fair spring to his ribs. He had a good strong loin with correct fall away and prominent hip bones. Well muscled with well bent stifles and low set hocks. Lovely long silky coat. He covered the ground with ease with plenty of spring. Delighted to award him RBOB.

1st – 254 – CHIQUE TO CHIQUE A STORY WITH A TAIL FOR LONGMYND (Mrs H Bailey)

13 month old bitch, Wow this young lady has it all. Beautifully balanced of good size and shape. Classic domed head with correct stop and occiput, long low set ear with curl and velvety texture, lovely dark lozenge eyes. Good strong jaw with correct dentition. Good length to her neck and excellent firm topline and tail set. Her body is long and deep with adequate ground clearance. She excels in her angulation. Her front assembly is excellent, her forechest fitting neatly into the crook with a prominent sternum. She has well bent stifles that are well muscled and she has large well knuckled feet. On the move she is a joy to watch, smooth and effortless, showing real reach and drive. Please to award her BOB and later watch her win Hound Group 3.

1st – 253 - BROMP BIGBUTT BERYL BROWN AT LONGMYND (Mrs H Bailey)

3 year old bitch, what a sweetie, pleasing outline which is balanced, pretty head with good proportions, correct ear set, length and texture, nice dark lozenge eye. Strong jaw with correct dentition. She has a nice neck and good shoulder angulations, level topline and correct tail set. I would prefer more angulation behind. Adequate ground clearance. On the move she was a little unsettled.

1st – 255 – CH LONGMYND CEDRICE SMARTSON BY BROMP (Mrs H Bailey)

6 ½ year old male, and a worthy champion. Presented in good condition, well balanced displaying a good outline. Pleasing head with correct stop and occiput, lovely long low set ear with correct curl and texture. Correct eye shape and colour, strong jaw with correct dentition. He has a nice neck leading to a good strong level topline and correct tail set. He has a good front assembly and well angulated hind quarters. On the move he showed real reach and drive. A lovely boy. Pleased to award him RBOB.

23 month old male, nice size with a pleasing outline, his head is long and lean of equal proportions, with slight dome and stop. Nice dark almond eye. Good length and arch to his neck, good topline with a graceful curve and balanced fallway. He has a well placed shoulder and good depth to his chest with required tuck up. Well developed hindquarters, long and muscular and well angulated. Nice and steady on the move, showing effortless power. Pleased to award him RBOB.

5 year old upstanding male, well balanced presented in good condition. A pleasing head with correct proportions. Lovely dark expressive almond eyes. Correct ear set, shape and size. Strong jaw with correct dentition. A lovely arched neck which is long and well muscled, leading to a good topline with desired curve and fallaway and correct tail set. Well placed shoulder and upper arm. Good depth of chest, well tucked up with broad and powerful loin. His hindquarters are well developed with long muscular thighs and well angulated stifles. In profile he was effortless showing great reach and drive. Pleased to award him BOB.

4 year old male with a lovely balanced outline. A nice head with correct proportions, eye shape and colour. Correct ear set, shape and size. Good strong jaw with correct dentition. A nice length to his neck with sufficient arch, nice strong topline with required curve and fallaway. Correct tail set. His shoulders were well laid back with a good return of upper arm. Good depth to his chest with required tuck up and strong loin. Well angulated stifles with long muscular thighs. A steady mover.

10 month old bitch, nice shape and outline, good head with a kind expression, dark oval eye, small rose shaped ear. Correct dentition. Good neck leading to well placed shoulders, straight forearms with slightly sprung pasterns and neat feet. Her topline shows the required arch over her loin. Her depth of chest and spring of rib is good, and she has a good tuck up. Her rear angles are good and her thighs are well developed with a good bend to her stifle and hocks well let down. She moved out well with a long easy stride.

2nd – 307 – JENNIE WREN AT PENWINCOED (Ms J M Lloyd)

8 month old bitch, another lovely puppy with a nice shape and outline. Pleasing head shape with a kind expression and dark oval eye, correct small rose shaped ear. Correct dentition. Nice neck with well laid shoulder and return of upper arm, good depth to her chest and good tuck up, Her forearms are straight with nicely sprung pasterns and good feet. Her topline is strong with a slight arch over her loin. Her hindquarters are well bent with good width across her thighs and well let down hocks. On the move she was unsettled, which is a shame as she shows great potential.

1st – 310 – PENWINCOED PAMELA PUMPKIN (Ms J M Lloyd)

10 month old bitch, lovely head and expression with super dark pigment and dark oval eye. Correct rose shaped ear. Correct dentition. Long neck leading to a good shoulder. Her topline is good, would prefer more of an arch over her loin. Depth of chest is good reaching to her elbow and sufficient tuck up. Forearms are straight with a nice spring to her pastern and good feet. Nice hindquarters which were muscled and her hocks were well let down. She moved out well with a long easy stride.

2nd – 305 – PENWINCOED PUMPKIN PATCH (Ms J M Lloyd)

10 month old male, litter brother to 1st and a lot of the same qualities apply. Nice head and kind expression with super dark pigment and dark oval eye. Correct rose shaped ear. Correct dentition. Nice neck which is elegantly arched and leads to a good shoulder, though would prefer more return of upper arm. Depth of chest is good and tuck up is sufficient. He has a slight arch over his loin. His hind quarters are well muscled with a good bend to his stifle and well let down hocks. He moved well though not the freedom of action of the 1st place.

1st – 311 - PENWINCOED PUMPKIN PIE (Ms J M Lloyd)

10 month old male, litter mates to 1st and 2nd in Junior. Mature puppy of a nice type and good overall size. Lovely head with a kind expression, nice dark pigment and correct oval dark eye. Lovely rose shaped ear, small and fine in texture. Correct dentition. Nice neck with an elegant arch, leading to well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. He has good depth to his chest with adequate tuck up. His forearms are straight with slightly sprung pasterns and neat feet. He has a slight arch over his loin. He has well muscled hindquarters and well let down hocks which he used to his advantage on the move, he was straight going away and back and showed a really nice freedom of movement with a long easy stride in profile. Pleased to award him BOB, BP and later watch him take 3rd in the puppy group.

19 month old male, larger stamp than 1st. Presented a pleasing outline. Nice head proportions with correct dentition and rose shaped ears. Would prefer a darker eye. Nice long neck with elegant arch. His angles in front and rear are balanced. Sufficient depth to his chest with adequate tuck up. Straight forearms, with tight feet. He has a slight arch over his loin. On the move he was sound and showed freedom of action.

Correct dentition. Nice long neck with an elegant arch. Well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Good depth to her chest with a lovely tuck up. She has straight forearms with a good spring to her pasterns and tight feet. Nice rise over the loin which is strong. Her hindquarters are well developed with a good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. On the move she showed a lovely freedom of movement with a long easy stride. Pleased to award her RBOB

3 year old bitch. A nice type and good overall shape. Balanced head proportions with a kind expression. Nice dark pigment and dark oval eye. Neat rose shaped ears. Correct Dentition. Lovely long neck with elegant arch. Correctly placed shoulders. Good topline with graceful arch over her loin. Lovely straight front legs with slight spring to her pastern and neat feet. She has a good underline. She has strong moderate rear angulations and is well muscled with well let down hocks. She moved out well.
